Hearing the sound of an instrument ticking next to him, Amos slowly opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling above.
After a long while, he suddenly said, âEudoraâ¦â
Wendy hurried over and grabbed Amosâ arm. âAmos, are you awake? Thatâs great. Youâre finally awake.â
Amos grabbed her wrist and held it tightly.
âWhereâs Eudora? Whereâs she?â
Wendy frowned in pain. âAmos, stop. Let go of me.â
However, Amos seemed to not hear her words, and his grasp became even stronger. Wendy had no choice but to blurt out âEudora is dead!â
Upon hearing this, Amosâ whole body shook and he pushed Wendy away. âNonsense!â
He tried to get out of bed. Clint rushed in and held him down. âPresident Granger, itâs true. There was an attack, and the waiting room in the airport exploded. Several people died inside, including Miss George!â
Amosâ eyes reddened. âI donât believe it! I must see it for myself!â
âPresident Granger, please donât be sad. Miss George has been blown intoâ¦â Clint didnât dare to continue. He slowly opened his palm and there was a ring strung with a chain on it.
Amos recognized it immediately. It was the ring that he had given to Eudora.
She had worn it over her neck all this time.
Amos took the ring slowly, only to realize that his fingers were trembling.
He suddenly remembered the way Eudora looked when he slipped the ring onto her finger. Her eyes were sparkling like a cute little fox.
He pinched the ring tightly, got up, and said, âTake me to her.â
Clint was stunned. âPresident Granger, if Miss George was still here, she wouldnât want you to see her in her current state.â
Hearing this, Amos scoffed. âShe even dared to leave me. Would she be afraid that I saw her? Take me there!â
â¦
Clint had taken Eudoraâs body to the morgue. She was lying there, and her clothes had been changed. However, her face had been blown beyond recognition after the explosion.
Amos looked at the scene in front of him with a bitter expression. He was thinking about the night before she left. He was holding her in his arms through the night.
How could a good woman like her end up in this way?
Amos was heart-wrenched. He quickly reached out and grabbed her hand. âEudoraâ¦â
The person who was lying there didnât move, and the body was as cold as ice.
Amosâ throat tightened and he hurriedly reached out to clench his chest.
Clint hurriedly held him up, âPresident Granger, you are still not in good health. Please take care of yourself. Otherwise, even if Miss Georgeâs spirit is in heaven, she will not be at ease.â
Amos smiled bitterly and said, âClint, I killed her. If I had let her leave at the beginning, she might not have become what she is today.â
âNo, President Granger, itâs not your fault.â Clint did not know what to say.
Amos suddenly pushed Clint away and reached out to hold her cold hand. He took out the ring and put it on for her with his trembling hands.
However, the ring did not fit! After several tries, he still failed to put the ring on the finger.
Amos frowned. He slowly shifted his gaze upwards. In the end, his eyes stopped on her pale arm.
Her arm was the clearest and untouched part of the body as it was the only part that was not injured.
Clint could not bear to see it any longer. His heart was aching.
He sighed. Eudoraâs arm was the only part that didnât suffer. She was such a good woman, yet she had to face such a miserable ending.
The next second, Amos suddenly laughed. âItâs not her!â
Clint was stunned. âPresident Granger, whatâs wrong with you?â He thought Amos had lost his mind due to extreme grief.
However, Amos became even happier. âItâs really not her. Look here.â He pointed to her arm and said, âThereâs a birthmark on her arm. This person doesnât have one.â
He knew every inch of her body. This person was definitely not Eudora George.
Clint could not believe that things had changed so suddenly. âBut this chain was found on her! Was the ring also a mistake?â
âItâs not a mistake. The ring was the right one.â Amos frowned. He pondered on it for a long time. âYes, how could the person be wrong if the ring was right?â
Clint seemed to have come to a realization. âCould it be that Miss George had deliberately devised all these in order to escape?â
âImpossible!â Amos shook his head. âWe cannot dismiss the fact that she had not planned to travel via Bookerfield City from the very beginning. We chased after her, so she changed the route last minute. Moreover, even if she had arranged it in advance, how could she make such a big scene with her ability? Even if she had that ability, she wouldnât do it. This explosion had killed so many people. She couldnât be so ruthless and crazy.â
Clint was also stunned. âPresident Granger, could this all be a well-designed plan? In order to make you think that Miss George is dead?â
Amosâ eyes gradually darkened. âMaybe they really wanted her to die, but they didnât succeed, so they deliberately found a substitute.â
Clint was stunned. âWho is this person then?â
Amos knitted his brows. âFind out who this woman is.â
Clint nodded. âWhat about Miss George?â
Amos thought for a moment and said, âInvestigate this secretly. You must not let yourself be exposed. Take as much time as you want.â Eudora was no longer by his side. If someone had realized that she was still alive, he might not be able to protect her.
Clint nodded again. âWhat about your wedding with Miss Liam?â
The wedding was approaching, so he must find an explanation for it.
Amos might have been willing to marry Wendy in the beginning, but now that Eudora had run away, he couldnât marry Wendy anymore.
Otherwise, with her stubbornness, Eudora would never come back.
Thinking of this, Amos shook his head. âThe wedding is canceled.â
âBut, Iâm afraid Miss Liam wonât agree to itâ¦â Clint said. âI heard that Miss Liam has already prepared everything, and even her wedding dress is ready.â
Amos smiled faintly and said, âShe will agree.â
Clint did not understand. He looked at Amos suspiciously, however, the man did not dwell on the topic any longer and said directly, âJust do what you were told!â
Clint shook his head. âIâll send you back to the hospital first.â
âNo, I can go back by myself.â Amos said, âDonât worry. Now that I know sheâs fine, I wonât do anything stupid.â
In the past, Clint would never believe that Amos would become like this because of a woman. But this time, he really believed it.
Miss George was an irreplaceable person to Amos. Clint nodded and left after that.
After Clint left, Amos drove back to the hospital alone.
When he was driving back to the hospital, he suddenly lost control of his car. It rammed into the divider and turned over on the ground.
His leg was stuck under the car. After Amos was rescued, he could not feel his legs anymore. Since then, he could only sit in a wheelchair.
It was said that Amosâ temperament had changed greatly after the accident, and the planned wedding was temporarily delayed.
