After changing into a fresh set of clothes, Amos Granger looked like his handsome self again.
Eudora George admired his side profile silently. How could anyone not like this man?
While she was still lost in her thoughts, Amos spoke.
âI was in the hospital last night. Wendy woke up.â
âOh.â Eudora nodded with a calm face. This made Amos frown, âEudora, do you know something?â
Eudora nodded again. âWell, I know that she is unable to get pregnant again and I also know that she saved you. She saved you again, Amos.â
She said it calmly, but it felt as if a giant rock was pressing on her heart.
That last sentence, also seemed to be asking Amos what he was planning to do next.
Amos frowned and said, âForget it, letâs not talk about her. Is everything going well in your company? And oh, is your tummy all right? Two days ago, you said that you had a stomachache. Did the doctor say anything about it?â
Eudora was stunned and thought of the pregnancy report.
She then shook his head and said, âItâs alright. Itâs much better now.â
When they arrived at the company, Eudora got out of the car and left. When Amosâ car was already far away, she came out of the lobby and stared at the disappearing car.
â¦
As soon as Amos arrived at the company, he received a phone call from the hospital.
âMiss Liam has been crying ever since she found that she could no longer bear a child.â
Amos frowned and hurried to the hospital.
When he just arrived at the door of the ward, he heard Auntie Agnes trying her best to persuade Wendy in the ward.
âMiss, please come down. How am I going to explain to Mr. Granger if you die just like this?â
Wendy did not listen. âIâm already broken. Do you think anyone would like me in the future? Just let me jump. I donât want to live anymore!â
Amos frowned, opened the door and went in.
âWendy, come down. â
Seeing Amos in the ward, Wendy sobbed even louder.
âAmos, donât come over. I know that my existence is a burden to you and Miss George. Itâs all my fault. Just let me die!â
Amosâ frown deepened, and he quietly gave a knowing look at Clint Zuckerberg behind him. Clint immediately understood and slowly moved toward Wendy.
On the other hand, Amos was still talking to Wendy.
âThere are still ways to treat your body. Donât you think it would be a pity to lose your life now? Didnât you say that you want your design company to be publicly listed?â
Wendy paused and stopped wailing.
Clint immediately got up and grabbed her from behind, and the others also rushed forward and pulled her down from the windowsill.
Wendy stepped forward and threw herself into Amosâ arms, bursting into tears.
Amos grimaced and tried to push her away, but he didnât move in the end.
After she was done crying, Amos called for Auntie Agnes. âHelp Miss Liam to the bed. Let her get some rest. â
Wendy continued clinging herself onto Amosâ arm. âCould you please stay here with me for a while?â
Amos pursed his lips. He took a moment before answering, âThere are still some things in the company that I need to attend to. Iâll visit you tomorrow.â
After that, he left with Clint.
After he left, Auntie Agnes helped Wendy to her bed. Auntie Agnes murmured, âMiss, Mr. Granger is still very kind to you. You must cherish yourself.â
Wendy didnât say anything and closed her eyes.
When Auntie Agnes saw that she was asleep, she opened the door and went out.
After Auntie Agnes left, a thin figure pushed the door open and came in from the corridor. He walked slowly to the bed and stared at the woman lying on the bed.
After a long time, he sneered.
âAre you still pretending?â
Wendy opened her eyes and frowned at him. âWhat are you doing here?â
Caleb Chuck took off his mask, and the smile on his face was filled with contempt. âWhat do you think Iâm doing here? Whatâs wrong? Do you think that you could get rid of me after taking advantage of me?â
Wendyâs face turned pale. âWhat are you talking about? When did I use you?â
âDidnât you? You said that you wanted to kill Amos, thatâs why I helped you. But you disregarded your own safety to save him, and now you lost your ability to conceive. Tell me, shouldnât I teach you a lesson?â
With this, he reached out to grab Wendyâs jaw.
Wendy shivered. âItâs not what you think. I did not have a choice. I could only do so in that kind of situation. Now, I finally have Amosâ trust. When I get the money, we can finally go far together!â
Caleb was still indifferent.
His fingers were still gently rubbing her chin. All of a sudden, he squeezed her chin tightly.
âWhat do I need those money for? Could you still bear a child for me?â
Wendyâs face turned pale and she cried out immediately, âIt hurtsâ¦â
âDo you still know pain?â Caleb roared at her with red eyes, âWhat about me? Donât you know that Iâm in pain too?â
Wendy was stunned. She didnât know what he meant at all.
âCaleb, if you like children, we could always adopt them when we have money in the future! Or weâ¦â
Caleb finally let go of her jaw. He regained his composure and said, âWoman, you think too highly of yourself. Do you think someone like me would like children?â
Wendy breathed a sigh of relief.
He suddenly stretched his hand out to touch her lower abdomen. His fingers were so cold that she got goose bumps.
Caleb had always looked gentle. However, the smile that crept across his face when he stared at her belly made him look eerie. It was as if he wanted to pry her belly open.
After a long while, he let out a sneer and slowly moved his fingers to the bottom of her navel.
âPerhaps itâs a good thing that you canât give birth to a baby anymore.â
Wendy was scared out of her wits. She thought he was going to hurt her again, so she pleaded in a hurry. âI havenât recovered yet. Weâre at the hospital.â
Caleb didnât say a word. He withdrew his hand after a while and asked.
âDo you think that Amos would accept you just because youâve become like this? You were going to jump off the building just now, but it didnât look like he was worried at all.â
His words shot Wendy right in her guts. She snorted and said, âHe will agree!â
When she said this, her eyes were full of viciousness. Caleb raised his eyebrows and caressed her face with appreciation. âYouâre really my woman. Interesting.â
At that moment, they could hear footsteps coming from outside the door, and Wendy said warily, âSomeone is coming, you should leave now!â
Caleb snorted, but he did not move.
Wendy had no choice but to peck him on the lips. âGo, now.â
Calebâs eyes darkened, and he pressed her for a long kiss. He even pinched her breast before he left. âTake good care of your body, otherwise donât blame me for being rude!â
After that, he put on the mask, turned around and went out.
Soon Auntie Agnesâ voice came from outside the door. âWho are you? Why are you coming out of Miss Liamâs ward?â
Caleb paid no attention to her. Auntie Agnes hurriedly pushed the door and came in. âMiss, are you okay? Who is that person?â
âNothing, he just came into the wrong ward!â Wendy said dryly.
Auntie Agnes didnât think much and let it slip, while Wendy raised her hand and touched her lower abdomen. She paid such a big price for Amos. How could she give up so easily?
