After sending Kesha away, Wendy knew this matter could not be delayed any longer.
If Eudora knew the truth, she would definitely find a way to investigate it. It would be over for Wendy once Eudora found out about everything.
Thinking of this, Wendy took out a business card from her purse. After hesitating for a while, she dialed the number on it.
Soon, noisy noises came out from the other end of the phone. Gingerly, Wendy said hello.
After a moment of silence, she heard a manâs lazy voice.
âBaby, I thought youâve forgotten about me!â
Wendyâs lips froze, and then she answered in a cheery tone, âWhy would I forget about you?â
âNo? I saw that you and Amos Granger are very happy together!â
Wendy felt a chill down her spine. How could she forget that this man was very dangerous?
Thinking of this, she smiled and said, âLast time you said that you wanted to work beside me. Iâve thought about it, but your identity is too obvious. Iâm afraid that youâll be in danger.â
The man sneered. âYou really care about me, baby.â
âKind of!â Wendy let out a dry laugh.
The man snorted. âIs that all? Iâll hang up then!â
âDonâtâ¦â Wendy hesitated and finally asked. âWhere are you?â
âWhatâs wrong? Do you miss me? Iâll come to you then.â
âNo, noâ¦â Wendy paused. âCould I ask you for a favor?â
After a moment of silence, he spat, âWendy, are you treating me as your bodyguard or something? How dare you?â
Wendyâs face darkened and she hurriedly replied, âIâm notâ¦â
âThen why are you calling me? If you want my help, show me your sincerity!â After that, he hung up the phone.
After a while, an address was sent from his mobile phone.
Wendy looked at the number as cold sweats broke out from her pale face. She tossed her phone aside, shivering.
â¦
It was already nighttime when Amos Granger arrived at Clearwater Bay. He saw Auntie Valerie standing at the door looking around.
He frowned and asked. âWhatâs wrong?â
âMiss has gone out again today and hasnât come back yet.â Auntie Valerie said worriedly, âI was about to look for her.â
His frown got deeper as he asked, âDid anyone come here for her?â
âCould it be the George family?â
Amosâ brows were knitted tightly. It seemed that the George family had forgotten about the threat last time.
âI see. Iâll look for her.â After saying that, he turned around and got in his car again.
However, before he drove out of the area, he spotted Eudora sitting alone on a bench in a garden. It looked like she was deep in her thoughts.
Amos parked his car promptly and walked over. He sat down beside her.
âWhatâs wrong?â
Eudora shook her head. âNothing.â
She didnât want to say anything.
Amos saw that she was not in the mood to speak, so he did not probe further. âLetâs go home!â
However, Eudora suddenly grabbed his hand again and asked, âAmos, have you ever had someone whom you feel guilty for?â
Amos was stunned, his eyes looking at Eudora deeply. He really didnât expect that she would have someone like that in her life.
How could that be possible?
She was clearly a person who would rather be hurt than to hurt others.
However, he still thought about it for a moment.
âYouâre probably the only one whom I feel an immense guilt for.â
Eudora was stunned. She did not expect that Amos would say that to her, âThat is why I will always be good to you,â Amos continued.
After that, he took off his coat and wrapped it around her shoulders. âShall we go home?â
Eudora did not move. âIâm being serious. If you have someone whom you feel guilty for, or if someone had died because of you, what would you do?â
âWhatâs wrong?â Amos looked at her. âWho died because of you?â
âNo one!â Eudora shook her head hurriedly. She was stunned. How could she tell these things to Amos?
Amos frowned and said, âEven if you donât tell me, I will know.â
This manâ¦
Eudora had no choice but to answer vaguely, âFelix Meyer said that his childhood sweetheart died because of me. That was why he tortured me all those years.â
âDo you actually believe what he says? Felix is not a good man.â
âBut I had done my investigation. It might be true!â Eudora frowned. If she really went to the United States, Fae might really have died because of her. It would then be an indisputable fact.â
âThereâs just a slight chance that it might be true. What is it about? Iâll help you find out!â
âForget it!â Eudora shook her head. âI was probably just overthinking!â
For some reason, she didnât want Amos to know that she had been trapped in that basement. She might have been very close to Amos at that moment, but yet she didnât save him.
Amos sighed. He pulled Eudora up and brought her to the car.
âIâll deal with Felix. Donât you worry about it.â
âThereâs no need to!â Eudora said hurriedly. âI wonât think about it anymore. Forget about it!â
Felix had already been punished. She didnât want to get involved with him anymore.
âPromise me you wouldnât do anything, okay?â
Amos said helplessly, âOkay, but you have to promise me one thing!â
âWhat?â Eudora was confused.
âForget about what happened in the past. Letâs start over. I will even allow Christopher Gellert to return to Everpeace Group. I only want you.â
Her heart skipped a beat, but her mind was filled with the idea that Christopher could go back to work.
After a long while, she nodded and said, âOkay.â
Amos was very happy. He lowered his head and kissed her on the back of her hand before he let her go. âLetâs go home!â
â¦
The next day, Christopher returned to the company. Everyone was very happy and they all proposed to throw a party for him.
Eudora shook her head and said, âI wonât be going. You all should go and have fun!â
Upon hearing this, Christopher was dispirited. âThen I wonât go eitherâ¦â
Everyone then dispersed halfheartedly. Christopher frowned and looked at Eudora. âDid you make any deals with Amos for him to let me out?â
This guy guessed it right the first time! Eudora pursed her lips and pretended to relax. âNo!â
Christopherâs face suddenly turned cold. âI can see through you. Donât lie to me. What did he say? Did he want you to stay with him? Donât promise him.â
âIâm really fine,â Eudora said with a smile. âDo I look like Iâm in trouble?â
âI think every part of you looks like youâre in trouble!â Christopher gritted his teeth. Suddenly, he whispered.
âEudora, let me take you away, okay?â
These words startled Eudora. âWhat nonsense are you talking about?â
âIâm serious!â Christopher said. âIâve thought that perhaps I should leave Rosaville City and go abroad rather than being controlled by Amos under TEM Inc. You could study architecture while I take up management courses. Iâve also saved some money over the years. Weâll be able to take good care of ourselves!â
Eudora looked at Christopher in horror. âYouâre crazy. I will never agree to that.â
âEudora George!â Christopher sighed. âDonât tell me⦠that you are reluctant to leave him?â
Eudora was stunned. The next second, she gave a wry smile. âYeah. Is there anything wrong with that?â
âYou fool!â Christopher was so angry that his teeth ached. âHe doesnât love you. He just enjoys possessing you.â
âI know what Iâm doing.â Eudora ignored Christopher and went back to her desk to continue with her work.
To say that Christopher was exasperated was an understatement. He stomped and left in a rage.
After he was gone, Eudora put her mouse down on the table and was silently in a daze.
She was going to leave Amos, but she was definitely not going to leave with Christopher.
