Chapter 0017
Serenaâs POV
âYouâre an asshole, Bill,â I say with a straight face.
I can feel my face getting hot, but I donât let any emotions show. Heâs acting like his old self, trying to provoke me with his words. But I can play that game too.
I scoff at his comment. âSo, what if I have a sugar daddy?â I shoot back. âWhatâs it to you? Weâre already divorced.â
Billâs jaw clenches, and his eyes narrow slightly. He says, âNow, I get it. You have a new target.â
âWhat does that mean?â I ask, demanding an explanation.
âYouâre just running around the neighborhood seducing rich guys,â Bill snaps. âWell, guess what? I have more money than all those idiots combined!â
Where is this coming from? This is the first time Bill has ever accused me of cheating. And now, heâs even labeling me a goldâdigger.
âIs that really what you think of me?â I ask. âYouâre acting like you were some perfect husband just because youâre rich. Get over yourself, Bill.â
âOh please, Serena. You knew what you were getting into marrying a CEO. It wasnât all about love, right? You had your eyes on the money from the start,â Bill fires back.
Billâsârant is getting worse. I keep calm and say, âI married you for who you are, not for your money. Itâs a shame you canât understand that.â
Suddenly, memories of all the fights between Bill and me come flooding back. He always acted so childishly during our arguments. There were times I felt like he wasnât trying to resolve our issues at all.
It seemed like he just didnât want me to have the upper hand. To him, our bickering was like a competition, a game where he had to come out
on top.
Bill lashes out. âYeah, right. You just stuck around as long as it was good for you. And now what? Showing up with fancy stuff, probably eyeing your next rich catch already.â
âThatâs it!â I yell, standing up. âI could slap you right now, Bill. But weâre in a hospital and I donât want to cause a scene. And for your information, this is from Calvin.â
Right after I mention Calvinâs name, Billâs expression changes to shock. He looks at me, his eyes wide, as if heâs trying to figure out if Iâm lying. Then, he turns away and after a moment, says quietly, âI must say, you have guts.â
I cross my arms and give Bill a skeptical look. âSo, now you think Iâm seducing your uncle too?â I ask. âYou think Iâm going down a list of billionaires? Who am I after now, Jeff Bezos?â
âI just think youâre so smart for going after someone richer than me,â Bill replies. âI mean, why stop at my uncle? With your track record, Iâm sure youâve got a whole lineup of rich guys waiting.â
I let out a sardonic laugh. âI actually thought you cared about me when you saved me from that motorcycle,â I say. âAnd you know why Calvin gave me this? He was grateful that I signed the consent forms for your
operation.â
âWhat consent form?â Bill asks, looking confused. âOf course, youâd be the one to sign it. You were the only one there.â
âThey asked for family, Bill,â I remind him. âIâm not your wife anymore, remember?â
Bill goes quiet for a bit, then looks at me with a mix of confusion and hurt. âOut of everyone, why go after my uncle, Serena? You really hate

my family so bad that you want to mess it up?â he asks. âMaybe Aunt Claire and Mom are right about you.â
Iâve had enough of Billâs constant accusations. Itâs like heâs always. trying to find some hidden, malicious motive behind everything I do.
Gathering my purse, Iâm ready to storm out of the room, but I pause to confront Bill one last time. âYou know what your problem is, Bill? You trust everyoneâs word over mine. Do you really think Iâm that evil?â
Billâs response is a cold, hard stare. âHow can I trust you,â he asks.
I sharply, âwhen you drugged me to get married?â

Iâm on the verge of telling him that it was Doris who drugged him, not But I stop myself. Whatâs the use if heâs not going to believe me? To him, Doris is a trusted colleague at work, and thereâs nothing Bill values more than his business. Why would he take my word over hers?
As I head towards the door, Billâs voice stops me. âHey! Where are you going? Weâre not done here.â
I turn back briefly. âOh, but we are, Bill,â I say firmly. âThe only reason I stayed last night was because the doctor asked me to.â
âI wouldnât be in the hospital if you hadnât made me sign the divorce papers,â Bill says, blaming me.
âDonât try to blame this on me. Remember your place, Bill. You canât control me anymore,â I say firmly. âIâm going to talk to my lawyer to sort out our divorce. After that, I have nothing to do with you anymore.â
With those final words, I leave the room. In the hallway, I call Atty.
Marquez.
âMrs. Richardson,â he greets me. âHow can I assist you today?â
âYou donât have to call me that, Attorney,â I respond. âBill, my ex- husband, already signed our divorce papers.â

âUnderstood,â replies Attorney Marquez. âIâll get started on the divorce proceedings right away.â
âI hope this can be wrapped up quickly,â I mention. âIâm not asking for any settlement.â
âIâll do my best to expedite the process,â he assures me. âAnd yes, not seeking a settlement should simplify things.â
âThanks, Attorney,â I say, grateful for his assistance. After ending the call, Iâm left with my thoughts.
Iâm still reeling from how Bill spoke to me, painting me as some sort of goldâdigger. Itâs clear he never really understood who I am. Cutting ties with him now seems like the best decision. The sooner itâs done, the better!
