Chapter 0138
Billâs POV
Taking a deep breath, I steady myself. âI understand your concern, Martin,â I say, keeping my voice calm and confident. âBut Max Laurent himself has talked about why I did what I did.â
Martin Reed isnât having it. His brows knit together, and he grips the edge of the table. âBill, itâs not just about what Max said or didnât say. The problem is the bad publicity youâve brought to the company. You punching a wellâknown fashion designer went viral. Itâs not something that just goes away with a few words. How can we be sure this wonât keep affecting our credibility?â
The room falls silent, all eyes on me. I take a deep breath. âI should have addressed this sooner, but since youâre all here, I want to apologize. I take full accountability for my actions. It was a mistake,â I confess.
Some shareholders shift uncomfortably in their seats, others lean in, waiting for my next words. Sarah gives me a subtle nod from the back of the room.
âI shouldnât have let my emotions take over,â I continue, my voice steady but remorseful. âI know that my actions have brought negative attention to the company, and for that, I am truly sorry.â
I look around the room at the familiar faces. âI know many of you were here when my father ran this company. If thereâs one thing he taught me, itâs to be man enough to make amends.â
A few of the older board members nod slightly, their expressions softening. They remember my fatherâs leadership, and I hope to earn their respect like he did.
Martin speaks up again, his tone softer but still firm. âBill, I understand where youâre coming from. Your father, William Sr., was a great man and leader,â he says. âBut we need to knowâhow are you going to fix this?â
I steady myself. âI appreciate that, Martin. To fix this, Iâve already started making changes. Weâve set up stricter conduct policies and improved transparency throughout the company. Iâve been talking directly to our partners to address this and assure them it wonât happen again.â
âI know actions speak louder than words,â I continue. âThatâs why weâre also launching new programs to strengthen our company culture and reinforce our

values. Weâre committed to learning from our mistakes and becoming a better, stronger company.â
The room is quiet, the tension slowly easing. âIâm dedicated to restoring our reputation and earning back your trust,â I say, making eye contact with each board member.
âAlright, Bill. I appreciate your honesty and the steps youâre taking. Youâve got my support,â Martin says, smiling.
âThank you, Martin,â I reply, feeling a wave of relief. âI wonât let you down.â
As the meeting concludes, I start gathering my materials, satisfied with how things went. The shareholders file out, chatting among themselves, and the atmosphere feels lighter.
While Iâm cleaning up, Frederick approaches me. âQuite a speech you did,â he says, his tone neutral.
I look up, meeting his gaze. âIâm glad you think so,â I reply, studying his expression for any sign of his thoughts.
âThis is what Iâve been waiting for from you, Bill,â Frederick continues. âYou always seem to feel like you need to be the alpha, the tough CEO. But sometimes, you forget youâre human too.â
I nod, taking in his words.
âBut today, I saw glimpses of your father in you,â Frederick says, his smile growing warmer. âHe would have been so proud.â
I swallow hard, feeling a lump in my throat. âI hope so, Fred,â I say quietly. âI really hope so.â
Frederick nods. âAnd donât worry, Iâve decided not to sell my shares to your uncle. I believe in what youâre doing here.â He pauses, his smile widening. âLooks like fatherhood is doing you good, Bill.â
I manage a small smile as some of the tension eases. âThanks,â I say. âI hope I can be as great a father as my dad was.â
Frederick nods. âYouâre doing fine, Bill. Keep it up.â With that, he turns and walks
away.

As I finish packing up, Sarah approaches me, her face lit up with excitement. Her eyes are bright, and sheâs practically bouncing on her feet.
âBill, that presentation was a banger!â she says, grinning. âYou nailed it.
I smile, feeling relieved. âI couldnât have done it without your help, Sarah.â
Sarah raises her hand for a high five. âHigh five, partner!â
I look at her, confused. âI donât do high fives.
Sarah rolls her eyes playfully. âCome on, Bill. You just rocked that presentation. Live a little!â
I sigh and reluctantly raise my hand. As our hands connect, she pulls back at the last second. âToo slow!â she laughs.
I chuckle and try again, this time managing to connect with a loud clap. âThere, happy now?â
âAbsolutely,â Sarah says, still laughing. âNow letâs get out of here and celebrate.â
We head towards the exit and find Kevin just outside, looking pale as ever. I frown, concerned. âKevin, where were you? Everything okay?â
He looks up, eyes weary. âSorry, Mr. Richardson. I had a family emergency.â
âIs everything alright?â I ask, my tone softening.
âYeah, itâs under control now. How did the presentation go?â Kevin asks, genuinely
curious.
Sarah jumps in, beaming. âBill nailed it! Frederick is staying on board.â
Kevin nods slightly. âThatâs great to hear.â
âCome on, Kevin,â I say, clapping him on the back. âWeâre heading out to celebrate. Join us at the restaurant?â
Kevin hesitates for a moment before nodding. âSure, Iâd love to.â

With that, we all head out together. I wish Serena were here too encouraged me to do everything I can to keep my position in the company.
I wonder how her interview went.
