âOpen the door Trevor!â My brother yelled outside whilst I screamed as Trevor began once again pulling me by my hair back up the stairs to where we had come from.
âRobert, call the police!â I pleaded as I was dragged back to my bedroom passing a passed out Jessica at the door of my apartment.
âWhat did you do to her?â I breathed, terrified of what he would do to me.
âNothing you need to worry about Mel, unless of course you donât comprehend.â Trevor threatened, bolting my front door closed before continuing to drag me to my bedroom. Throwing me onto my bed, I was pulled towards him as he hovered menacingly above me, ripping away my underwear as well as pulling down his both is trousers and boxers. I kicked and screamed, cursing myself for not having a side lamp but it was no use. Trevor was stronger than me and so fighting against him was useless. I knew that I needed to at least buy time until the police arrived but unluckily for me, it seemed as though they would turn up too late. Flipping me over so that my body was against the bed, Trevor pushed my head furiously into the pillows once again cutting off my air supply as I struggled to breath.
âTrevor let me go! Please Trevor!â I begged, flinging my arms around as I fought against him.
âMelanie! Melanie! Wake up!â A male voice yelled above me, causing me to wake up, snapping my eyes open before screaming. How had Trevor gotten into Jasmine ad Dannyâs apartment?!
âTrevor please, leave me alone! Iâll get back with you, I promise!â I lied as I fought against him once again, tears falling down my cheeks as he pulled my arms behind my head with one strong hand, shaking me continually with the other as he hovered over me, his evil blue eyes staring emotionlessly into mine with an dangerous smirk on his lips.
âMelanie wake up! Itâs me Stephen! Wake up Melanie!â I could hear in the background. Squeezing my eyes closed so that I no longer had to see Trevorâs face, something inside me forced me to open them and when I did, I immediately relaxed and pulled Stephen into me as I cried some more.
âMelanie it was just a nightmare. Iâm here Melanie. Heâll never hurt you again,â Stephen assured as he soothingly rubbed my back whilst I continued to cry on his cool shoulder.
âYou guys can go to bed, Iâll help her get back to sleep,â Stephen stated, turning his body slightly. Confused, I wiped my eyes and looked up to see Jasmine and Danny watching me with tired and worried eyes. I had woken them up, once again.
âIâm sorry guys,â I apologised, for probably the hundredth time.
âItâs alright Melanie.â Jasmine shrugged, a reassuring smile on her lips as she pushed her bed hair out of the way.
âStephen you know where our bedroom is if you need anything,â Danny stated before pulling Jasmine out of the room and closing the door behind them.
âIâm sorry Stephen.â I apologised again as I continued to cling on to him.
âHow long have you has the nightmares for?â He whispered softly into my ear, causing me to sigh into him.
âEver since I left your house.â I replied, slowly moving out of his embrace.
âWhere are you going?â Stephen asked as I got out of the bed and headed towards the bedroom door.
âTo the bathroom,â I answered, closing the door softly behind me. Iâm not sure how long I had been crying silently in the bathroom, like I did every night, until I heard a soft knock on the door.
âMelanie, let me in,â Stephen insisted on the other side of the door.
âNo. Please Stephen, just go back to sleep,â I muttered, walked over to the sink to wash my face with cold water.
âNo Melanie, let me in or Iâll stand here all night. In this exact spot. For the next ten hours or however long it will take for you to get your ----,â Stephen growled until I pulled the door open, afraid to look into his eyes also cutting him off.
âThank you,â Stephen sighed as he walked into the bathroom with me. Curling up into the ball that I was in before he had interrupted me, after closing the door, I closed my eyes trying to forget the fact that my ex-boyfriend was in here with me. Feeling Stephen sit beside me, I snuggled into his side slightly, as an arm went around my body pulling me closer into him and wondered why and how I was lucky enough to find someone so amazing.
âYou could have gone home Stephen.â I stated, annoyed at myself. He needed to realise that I had too much emotional baggage and problems that needed to be overcame first before we could get back together, which could take years, or a lifetime.
âI know.â Stephen said beside me.
âBut I already told you that I would be here for you, all the time. So there was no way that I would leave you, since it would have been breaking my promise. You know me well enough Melanie, to know that I do not break my promises if I can help it.â Stephen reminded me.
âI donât want to weigh you down Stephen. There are so many other beautiful girls around that you could have in a heartbeat, without as many problems as I have. Iâm scarred goods Stephen, so donât make this any harder than it is for me to let go of you. I thought that it could work, but I realised tonight that it canât, I beat you up thinking that you were Trevor for crying out loud! Iâm a mad woman, just waiting for myself to erupt. I canât let you stand by me,â I whispered, still refusing to look into his eyes.
âIf takes time to heal scars Melanie and if youâve forgotten, Iâll remind you that I can live forever, so the wait wonât be anything for me. Plus, Iâm not asking whether youâll let me stand by you because I can do whatever I want and youâre who I want.â Stephen urged, lifting my chin gently so that I was forced to stare into his black orbs. His thumb softly wiped away a tear that I hadnât known had even fallen and I exhaled deeply allowing my eyes to flutter closed when his lips pressed against my forehead softly, leaving heat where they had touched.
âNow goodnight Melanie.â
âMorning Melanie. I brought you some breakfast.â I heard Danny say softly in my ear causing me to groan. Rolling over, I noticed that I was back on the bed. Stephen must have carried me back there last night after we had talked and I had fallen asleep. Lazily sitting upright and smiling as a thank you as Danny placed the tray of food on my lap, I couldnât help but wonder where Stephen was.
âHeâs in the bathroom. We invited him yesterday cause we knew that he would look after you at the party and since the other day, when you went to see him, you seemed pretty happy. I mean we hadnât seen you smile for years Mel.â Danny exaggerated a small smirk on his lips.
âBut when we came home and saw all of your clothes on the floor and some of his, we kind of wished that we hadnât invited him. If we knew that you were gonna jump into bed with him, to get over your troubles, which we never thought you would do Melanie, we would have thrown his butt right out of the door. Tom told us how you guys rushed out of his party but we never would have ---,â Danny explained, a frown on his lips as I registered what he was saying. How dare they think that I would jump into bed with Stephen? We hadnât even had sex in college, so why would I do it with him now, in such a thoughtless why?
âI donât think that you should judge Melanie for that. I mean, it was such hot sex that I wished that weâd done it sooner. Donât you agree Melanie?â Stephen lied, interrupting Dannyâs speech of how disappointed in me he was, winking at me which caused my heart to skip a beat as he leaned casually against the door frame, shirtless with wet hair.
âI think you should leave.â Danny snapped, standing up as he glared at Stephen who held his hands up, as though surrendering. Danny had always acted like a brother to me and I was finally seeing him in extreme mode.
âDanny stop. Heâs just joking. We left the party last night cause some guy tried to attack me but Stephen stopped him. Our clothes are on the floor because he wanted me to be comfortable in the bed and if you donât believe me, then you sure as hell donât know me as well as you think.â I corrected. Staring back and forth between our now serious faces, Danny sighed, hitting his palm on his forehead.
âIâm so sorry Melanie. I didnât know. I guess I should just leave now.â he apologised before leaving the room, looking at me one last time.
I lost my appetite as I remembered what had happened last night, as clearly as it happened.
âHe didnât know Melanie. You should forgive him.â Stephen insisted when I placed the tray of food onto the floor.
âHe is forgiven.â I shrugged.
âI could never stay mad at him, since Iâm living in his house.â I added, a small smile on our lips as I attempted to make a joke.
âYour coming out with me today. Weâre going for lunch. So get your ass out of bed and into the shower so that we can go, go, go! And donât even try and say that youâre not coming because I wonât take no for an answer.â Stephen instructed, jumping on my bed as he hovered over me, which caused me to giggle like a little girl.
âI would but your jumping on top of me.â I informed him, still laughing as I was bounced up and down.
âOh right,â Stephen smiled sheepishly as he got off of me, while I continued laughing until I remembered my lack of clothes.
âWhat?â Stephen asked, sensing change of feelings.
âUm...Can you pass me my towel please, itâs on the radiator over there.â I replied, trying not to act embarrassed.
âIf this is because youâre not wearing ---,â Stephen smirked, his eyes darkened as they stared into mine, about to say exactly what I didnât want him to.
âDonât say it. Just get me my towel so that I can get ready.â I commanded, narrowing my eyes at him since he seemed to be amused by my sticky situation.
âNo.â Stephen continued to smirk, getting off the bed before dangling the towel in front of me.
âFine.â I huffed, wrapping the covers around me. Standing up, I walked out of the door with my head held high as I walked past him whilst he attempted to stifle a laugh.
âErr, Melanie why are you ---?â Jasmine started but I cut her off.
âDonât say it.â I repeated just as I closed the bathroom door. In Stephenâs face! Except, when I had finished my shower, how was I going to dry myself?
