Chapter 122 Farewell Kiss
He said. âIâll discuss this matter with my family tomorrow. You should get ready to inform your father about the cancellation of our engagement.â
The smile gradually faded from Calistaâs face. She hadnât expected Kallum, even on the brink of death, to arrange this for her.
Had she not been humiliated and given up on Kallum, perhaps she wouldnât have figured out the real reason. But now, she had moved on. She was touched to know his intentions, but she would not fall for him again.
Itâs just sad, thatâs all. Perhaps weâre always destined to cross paths yet never meant to be together.
Seeing that Calista didnât respond, Kallum, fearing rejection, spoke hastily, âWhat, youâre not satisfied? Listen, the chances of me marrying you are now zero. If you donât accept the goddaughter title now, youâll lose the opportunity forever!â
Calista lowered her gaze, lost in thought for a moment, then suddenly looked at him and flashed a charming smile. She proposed, âLetâs do it this way. If you give me one last kiss, we can put all our past behind us. Then, Iâll become the Fairchild familyâs goddaughter.â
Calistaâs suggestion stirred an uncontrollable flutter in Kallumâs previously calm heart. His last shred of sanity held him back, yet he found himself unable to utter a word of refusal.
âWhat do you think? Or are you so disgusted of me that you canât even spare a single kiss?â Her voice held a melancholic undertone as she looked at him, his gaze seeming to carry a hint of sorrow,
This might be his last chance to kiss her.
Though he wanted to refuse, that thought overwhelmed him.
His heart clenched, and ultimately, he succumbed to his desire.
âDonât move!â After a moment of silence, Kallum suddenly made up his mind. He had taken a large amount of inhibitors, so as long as his body fluids didnât touch Calista, the likelihood of him infecting her was very low.
Iâll kiss her for one last time. It should be fine as long as itâs just a small peck. Iâll consider this our final farewell.
Kallum teared up, yet he leaned forward, inching closer.
Unlike Kallum, whose heart was racing, Calista remained calm, regarding him with an inscrutable look on her face. She even noticed his clenched fists and the fascination in his eyes.
At that moment, it dawned on her that he was in love with her.
Kallumâs kiss gently landed on Calistaâs lips. The warmth mingled with a hint of medicinal scent, accompanied by a refreshing taste.
He barely touched her, as if he dared not delve deeper for fear of losing control over himself.

Calista suddenly spoke up. âActually⦠If you want, you can kiss me more. Youâve taken inhibitors, havenât you? As long as-
Kallum widened his eyes when he heard that, and before she could finish, he leaned over and planted a few more passionate kisses on her lips.
Then, he pulled her into his embrace and continued kissing her before resting his head on her shoulder, panting heavily. âHow did you know?â he asked, out of breath.
He suddenly remembered that she had just met his father. âDid Dad tell you?â
Thatâs impossible. Getting diagnosed with the K Virus is a major issue, and if word gets out, the Fairchild family will be affected. Thereâs no teay Dad will tell anyone!
Due to the proximity, Calista could hear Kallumâs intense heartbeat and said honestly, âI guessed it myself.â
âYou!â Kallum let her go and recalled how she had provoked him earlier, realizing it was all a game to her. His face flushed red with annoyance.
âYes?â Calista smiled mischievously and said, âSince you deceived me, why canât I make fun of you?â
Kallum closed his eyes and sighed after a moment of silence. âYou didnât tell Dad your guess, right?â
She probably didnât. If she had, she wouldnât be sitting here. She wouldâve either been imprisoned by Dad and only released after I was dead, or she wouldâve been killed outright.
Once again, Calista disappointed him by saying, âI did tell him. I even told him that I might be able to save you on one conditionâthat I become the Fairchild familyâs goddaughter.â
Kallum exclaimed in frustration, âYouâre crazy!â
He held her in his arms, refusing to let go, yet the look in his eyes was stern. âDo you know what youâre doing? The K Virus is not just a flu! Itâs a global crisis! Iâll help you if you want to become the Fairchild familyâs goddaughter. Why did you do that?â
Calista gazed at the man with a glazed look in her eyes. âOf course, I know what Iâm doing. I wonât ask for any favors from you. Iâll earn what I want through my own strength. As for yesterdayâs matter, Iâll let it slide since you were trying to help me even on your deathbed. But donât meddle in my affairs anymore. All I need is for you to believe in me.â
Upon seeing the resolute look in her eyes, Kallum knew that nothing he said would change her mind. As expected, she has moved on.
Calista freed herself from his embrace and sat up straight, finally assuming a serious demeanor.
