âHelp me tie these balloons, and Iâll pay you fifty bucks per balloon.â
Sariah had been saving up to buy an album. With her mother working as a manager in the entertainment industry, she had become a hardcore fan.
Bobby often worried about his daughterâs gullibility when it came to handsome men. Now, Sariahâs only standard was a good-looking face, and sheâd happily spend money for them if they met her criteria.
Sariah quickly counted the balloons, her mental calculator running.
âThatâs at least five hundred bucks.â
Kalel smirked and patted her head. âIâll make it a thousand.â
With his hands casually stuffed in his pockets, Kalel slipped away from the group and wandered toward the kitchen. Inside, Aurora was making desserts.
âHey, Aurora. Everything good lately?â Kalel greeted, plucking a piece of cake off the counter.
Aurora raised an eyebrow as she turned to face him, immediately suspicious. âWhatâs with the sudden small talk? What scheme are you cooking up now?â
Kalel glanced around, his sharp eyes ensuring no one was within earshot, before leaning in slightly. âYou were at the library yesterday morning, werenât you?â
Aurora froze, her fingers halting above a plate of intricately placed desserts. A lone blueberry slipped from her grasp, landing on the plate. Her gaze darted around the kitchen. Even though it was just the two of them, her cheeks turned a vivid shade of pink.
âWhat are you talking about?â
âOh, come on. Donât play innocent. I already asked Lucas and Molly. I also know who you were with yesterday.â
Auroraâs shoulders slumped in defeat. She pursed her lips, the flush on her face deepening. There was no use denying it.
âRelax, I didnât spill to anyone. But I might need a little favor from your boyfriend.â
Aurora let out a cold laugh, putting the plate of blueberries down.
âDunn isnât my boyfriend.â
Kalel flashed a cheeky grin. âI believe he will be eventually.â
Aurora shot him a glare. âWhat do you need from him? If my parents find out, theyâll bristle with rage.â
With a shrug, Kalel said, âDo you really think your parents are clueless? Iâm pretty sure they wonât object if they see that heâs good for you.â
Aurora could see the logic in what he was saying, but Kalel had a knack for talking his way into anything.
Growing up around Shawn and Katherineâs booming empire, Kalel had been immersed in business his whole life. No wonder school didnât capture his attention the way the thrill of making a profit did.
Aurora raised an eyebrow at him. âSo, what exactly do you want Dunn to do for you?â
