The bodyguard blinked, unsure of what he meant. âWhat exactly do you want us to do to him, sir?â
âYou said heâs been harassing women? Make sure heâs unable to do that again. I donât care how you do it. Just donât kill him.â
The steeliness of Dunnâs voice sent chills down the bodyguardâs spine. âYes, sir,â the bodyguard replied with a stammer.
Dunn rolled up the car window, started the engine, and his car disappeared into the night.
Meanwhile, Aurora was getting ready for bed when Lucas knocked on her door and asked if he could come in.
When her parentsâ friends came over, they would usually bring their kids along. As the eldest of the kids, Aurora would babysit as they played around the house.
And of all the children she had met, Lucas was the most thoughtful and considerate, just like Rafael.
âSure, come in.â She sat up, her hair brushing over her shoulders as she turned on the bedside lamp.
Lucas walked in, looking rather downcast.
âWhatâs wrong?â Aurora asked.
âItâs about the necklace.â
âThe necklace?â
Lucasâ ears turned red, like a child who had just been caught doing something bad.
âI had it specially ordered through a friend. I didnât realize it was part of a Valentineâs Day collection. I hope it didnât cause you any trouble.â
Lucas was concerned that if Aurora wore the necklace, others might think she had a boyfriend, or that her actual boyfriend might misinterpret the gesture, leading to unnecessary conflict. That would mean trouble.
âNo, itâs okay,â Aurora reassured him.
Lucas lifted his gaze, studying her closely for a moment before gathering the courage to ask, âAre you in love, Aurora?â
Aurora froze, pulling the blanket up to cover half her face and nervously blinking her wide eyes. âIs it obvious?â
Lucas smiled and nodded.
Aurora patted the space next to her, and Lucas sat down. Lowering her voice, she whispered, âDonât tell anyone, okay? Nothingâs official yet.â
âNot even Molly?â
âIf Molly ever catches wind of this, itâll be the talk of the town by dawn,â Aurora said with a knowing smirk.
âI get it.â Lucas gave Aurora his word that her secret would remain safe with him.
âAurora, when are you and your boyfriend going to treat us to a nice meal?â
Aurora retorted, âHeâs not my boyfriend yet.â
âAnd why not? Is Rickey perhaps waiting for you to declare your feelings first?â
âRickey?â Confusion swept over Auroraâs features. âWhy on earth would Rickey be confessing to me?â
âIsnât Rickey the one youâve got your heart set on? After all, you two have been inseparable for what feels like forever.â
âNot at all,â Aurora responded firmly, her voice laced with a touch of irritation. âWeâre just good friends, really. Donât start spinning wild tales.â
