Jettâs expression softened slightly, but he remained silent, pulling her back inside.
She had no opportunity to bid farewell to Michael.
If Michael hadnât mentioned their separate sleeping arrangements last night, Jett might have lashed out at him.
âWhatâs the real story here?â Jett asked.
Dulce looked away, quickly diverting the conversation. âWhere are Mom and Dad?â
âYour antics have them worried sick. I had to send them away because of it. Have you really forgotten?â
Deceiving him was clearly out of the question.
Exhausted, Dulce pleaded, âJett, Iâm still piecing things together. Can I have some space for now?â
âIs he taking things seriously? Has he ever really moved on from his ex-wife?â
Dulceâs gaze fell to the floor, her sorrow now a familiar companion.
She merely nodded in agreement. âYes.â
âDespicable.â
The more Jett pondered, the more he regretted letting Michael go so easily.
âJett!â Dulce interjected, grasping his arm. âPlease, I need to handle this on my own.â
âAnd what can you possibly do? Heâs much older than you. Itâs easy for someone like you to be deceived.â
âHeâs not deceptive!â
Her unwavering faith in him was something that, for some reason, left Jett speechless with frustration.
âWhy must you be so naive?â
âWho hasnât made mistakes in love? Remember your own ordeal with Fifi?â
Left without a retort, Jett pointed a finger at her, his frustration palpable, before storming out.
Once the tension eased, Dulce found solitude on the couch, enveloped in loneliness.
Her somber reflections were interrupted by a call from the chief engineer of the design institute.
âDulce, Iâve just sent the latest aircraft design to your email. This is highly confidential, and you must not disclose it, understood?â
Summoning her focus, Dulce knew the gravity of her responsibilities. âAbsolutely clear.â
âJust so youâre aware, thereâs a new study abroad program through our international partnerships. Youâre a strong candidate for it.â
Intrigued, Dulceâs fingers tensed slightly. âAnd how long would that last?â
âTwo years. Perform well, and you might secure a position overseas. Post-graduation, you could even become a chief engineer, joining the upper echelons of our institute.â
Her mind wandered to her family, friends, and particularly Michael. âIâd like to complete my current projects first. If selected, Iâll give it serious thought.â
âWhatâs there to hesitate about? This is a chance many dream of. Both your mentor and I have put your name forward. Youâre young, Dulce. Prioritizing your future is crucial.â
âI understand its importance.â
