âSir, may I help you?â a staff member asked, eyeing him curiously.
âIâm looking for someone.â
âAnd who might that be?â
âDulce Lee.â
The staff hesitated, then subtly motioned towards a place with a tilt of his head. Michael followed the direction of his gaze. There she wasâDulce, visibly drunk, caressing a manâs hand while murmuring incoherently.
The man she was touching was the clubâs top male escort, his striking features rivaling those of a movie star. He sat with his chin resting on his hand, his demeanor indulgent as he listened to her ramblings.
âWhy doesnât he like me?â Dulce hiccupped, her voice slurring. âYouâre nice, but youâre not as handsome as him.â
The male escort pulled his hand away theatrically. âOuch! After everything Iâve listened to, youâre telling me Iâm not good-looking? Iâm done. No more.â
Dulceâs eyes widened as she stared at him, offended by his sudden withdrawal. âYouâre not bad either.â
The man leaned forward with a playful grin. âSo, do you want to take me home tonight? I promise I wonât disappoint you.â
Unfazed, Dulce fumbled in her purse and slapped a card on the table with exaggerated determination. âAlright!â
She tried to stand, taking only a few unsteady steps before colliding into a solid chest.
She tilted her head up, letting out a drunken hiccup as her bleary eyes focused on the man before her.
The resemblance to Michael was uncanny, so much so that she instinctively pushed the male escort aside without a second thought. âMichael, do you think youâre the only one who gets to have a stand-in? I can do it too!â
Before Michael could respond, Dulce grabbed hold of his collar with unsteady hands.
Her gaze, hazy yet intent, roamed his face as she muttered, âHow can you look so much like him? Hey, how much would it cost for you to stay with me tonight?â
Michael was well aware that Dulce had had a bit too much to drink, so he didnât take her words seriously. âItâs costly.â
Dulce patted her chest, her voice tinged with defiance. âWho do you think youâre belittling? I can certainly afford it!â
Michaelâs ability to find humor in the situation had faded. Had she been sober, would Dulce really have left with some stranger? âJust because you can afford it, it doesnât change anything. Iâm not just anyone you can take.â
Dulceâs temper flared at his words. Feeling humiliated by Michael was bad enough, but to be demeaned after spending so much here? âIâll pay you for three days. Whatâs your price?â
âThree days?â A bitter laugh escaped Michael. âYou think you can manage that?â
âMy concern is whether youâll be able to keep up!â she retorted. Leaning closer, Michael whispered, âJust so you know, itâs been quite a while for me.â
Dulceâs face warmed, her cheeks turning a deep red. His voice carried that unmistakable hint of Michael. âAnd your point?â
âNo second thoughts?â
âOnly cowards have regrets.â
Michael scooped Dulce up in his arms.
