Shawn heard a man and a woman scream in the distance. He quickly pieced together what had happened when he looked around and noticed that Callan was gone.
Instead of probing further, Shawn sat down next to Joelle. âYou know itâs not wise to take on so much, especially with Adrian away. You shouldâve brought the kids to Kathy and me. With enemies lurking in the shadows, I canât relax knowing youâre vulnerable.â
âIf I run to you every time Adrian leaves, heâll doubt my capabilities. I canât let him worry about me while heâs out there saving our daughter. I wonât be a burden on him.â
Shawn, though reluctant, acknowledged her growth. âAlright, I have something important to discuss.â
Joelle poured him a glass of water. âDid you find out anything?â
âYes, I questioned Amara. She did introduce a woman to Raelyn, but it didnât lead anywhere. I followed this trail for days. Guess what I uncovered?â
âStop teasing me. Iâm not in the mood for games.â
âThe heirs of the Crestwood Homesâ chairman arenât his biological children.â
âLucian Dury and Katy Dury?â
âPrecisely!â
Joelle had a vague recollection of Lucian Dury from Shawnâs university days.
Back then, after the Watson family incident, many, including Lucian, had mocked Shawn.
But those were harmless jabs, and Shawn never took them to heart.
After all, no one dared to disrespect him now.
At this moment, Callan emerged from the basement.
He had come while Joelle was speaking with Shawn, but after noticing his dirty clothes, he changed into a clean outfit before returning.
âThey confessed. The Dury family is behind this.â
Shawn continued, âOver the past three years, the real estate market has been sluggish. During that time, Lucian frequently traveled abroad. I compared Raelynâs travel history, and they often visited the same places. Lucian must know Raelynâs true identity and sought her financial assistance during his tough times.â
Joelle interjected, âRaelyn wouldnât agree to that.â
âExactly. She refused and even created a will, leaving everything to Adrian. Thatâs why Lucian resorted to desperate measures.â
Joelle fell silent, contemplating the situation.
If money was all Lucian wanted, it wouldâve been a simple matter. But kidnapping Adrianâs wife and children?
It seemed Lucianâs ambitions extended beyond Raelynâs inheritance.
He was a man of audacity.
âLucian has quite the nerve,â Joelle muttered.
Shawn added, âHis sister is oblivious to his schemes. Michael and I have deployed surveillance around the Dury family, but I doubt itâll make much difference.â
