From the look on his face, he must be talking to Judie.
The sharp knitting of his brows told Fannie he knew.
She was about to end the call when Mayer added, âIt was Judieâs first time, Fannie.â
Fannie felt her jaw drop to the floor. She instinctively looked at Bobby, realizing what he said last night was true.
But the reality of the situation was far from a relief. A delicate circumstance like this wasnât easy to handle.
Fannie and Bobby put their phones away almost simultaneously. A grim expression covered Bobbyâs face. âJudie is my friendâs sister. That pretty boy will have his ass handed to him.â
Fannie quickly stopped him from acting recklessly. âItâs not entirely Mayerâs fault, Bobby. Judie snuck into his room, drunk. What did you expect would happen?â
âJudie is young and naive. Can you say the same for Mayer?â
Fannie felt a headache coming. âLetâs talk about it when we get there.â
Agitated, Bobby drove with lightning speed, cutting the one-hour drive from the hospital to the hotel to forty minutes. Had Fannie not stopped him, Bobby would have kicked the door to Mayerâs hotel room open.
They had expected to catch the two in a fight upon entering.
However, there was only silence.
Judie was sitting on the bed, fully dressed, while Mayer handed her a cup.
Bobby stormed in and hurled a punch at Mayerâs face.
Judie screamed, âWhat the hell, Bobby?â
âWhat the hell?â Bobby echoed, seething, pointing a finger at Mayer on the floor. âHe seduced you, didnât he? Bastard! Youâll pay for this!â
âNo, he didnât! Stop it!â Judie lunged forward, clinging tightly to Bobbyâs waist to stop him. She might have been drunk last night, but she knew what she was doing. âIt was me! I seduced him!â
The room fell silent.
Judieâs face was flushed, but she wasnât bluffing. âI like Mayer, but he ignores me all the time, so I got desperate. I pretended to be drunk and snuck into his room.â
Fannie felt anger rise within her. But it was probably nothing compared to Bobbyâs burning rage.
Mayer slowly rose to his feet. He might be as young as Judie, but he took his job seriously. He worked hard to get into the industry to support his family and pay off their debts. He couldnât afford to lose everything, not this early in his career. âIâll take responsibility for her.â
Bobby cursed under his breath, sending the single sofa flying across the floor with his foot. âWho the hell do you think you are to give me that crap? Shut your fucking mouth, or Iâll send youâ¦â
âFlying across this room next!â
The hostility in Bobbyâs eyes was so palpable it seemed like he could tear the whole place apart.
Horror flared in Judieâs eyes. âPlease talk some sense into him, Fannie!â
