Katherine patted her shoulder. âThatâs my girl!â
Bobby reached out to grab Fannie back to his side but halted when Shawn yanked his collar. âDeal with those love bites first, will you? There are minors here.â
Bobby raised an eyebrowâthose were Fannieâs handiwork. âWhy should I when theyâre given by my girlfriend?â
Katherine gave Fannie a knowing smile. Although Fannie wasnât part of their friend group, she had come with Bobby on short notice, which meant they were together when Bobby received the news.
Surely, those love bites were from Fannie. After all, what other explanation could there be?
Just then, Fannieâs phone rang, saving her from being questioned. She excused herself from the group and walked out of the room.
The call was from Mayer, which was odd at this godly hour. Moreover, it was the first shooting day of Amylâs new variety show, where he and Judie were cast.
âMayer, whatâs up? Why are you calling at this hour?â
âIâm done for, Fannie,â Mayer said, sounding so defeated.
Celebrities often struggled with stress and mental health issues. As a talent agent, Fannieâs first line of action in such situations was to lend an ear and help her talent get through the hard feelings as much as she could. âAlright, calm down. Tell me what happened.â
Mayer took a deep breath. âAfter filming, everyone in the crew had some drinks. And some of us got really drunk.â Fannie caught her breath. More often than not, trouble was present where alcohol was concerned. âAnd then?â
Mayer covered his distraught face with his free hand, straining to break the news. âI really donât know what happened. After dinner, Judie sneaked into my room. We were so drunk, and I couldnât resist, so weâ¦â
He didnât have to finish his words for Fannie to realize what had happened.
The entertainment world wasnât as clean or pure as outsiders perceived.
Outside of work, celebrities were just normal people with normal needs. They spent months with their co-actors during filming, so who could blame them when feelings or intimate connections developed, often leading to sex?
Fannie even knew an assistant who had a relationship with her artist for years. Quite frankly, the moral baseline in the entertainment industry was pretty low.
Mayer took his job very seriously, yet he was still a healthy young man with normal needs.
Fannie was no moral judge and couldnât care less what Mayer did outside of work. Her only concern was if he was discreet and responsible about it. âDid others see you?â
Mayer replied weakly, âNo. Sheâs still in my room. I really donât know what to do. If this gets out, both our careers are over.â
âDonât be so negative. Weâll figure something out.â Fannie checked the time. It would take her about an hour to get to the hotel. âIâll be there in an hour. Tell Amyâs team to halt the filming and wait for me. Until I arrive, neither of you leaves the room, understood?â
The door behind her swung open, and Fannie glanced over her shoulder to see Bobby stepping out, also on a phone call.
