Fannie forced a smile, choosing not to comment further.
Bobby then spoke up, curious about her reason for being there.
Fannie couldnât help but wonder if her presence was more of an irritation to Bobby than anything else, especially with his apparent plans with Judie.
âAmyâs expecting to meet with you later, Judie,â Fannie said, shifting the topic.
âReally?â Judie asked, her concern shifting to her appearance. She reached up to check her makeup.
Bobby glanced at her and pointed to her lips.
âYouâve got some lipstick smudged there,â he said.
âSeriously?â Judie muttered, annoyed, pulling out a small mirror.

Bobby gave her a reassuring nod toward the venue. âNo need to rush. Go tidy up.â
Realizing Bobbyâs intent to have some time alone with Fannie, Judie quickly excused herself and left. Fannie and Bobby were left alone.
Fannieâs unease grew as she feared someone might see them together.
âI think I should leave now,â she said, her voice betraying her discomfort.
âWhy leave so soon?â Bobby replied, drawing her closer and pinning her against the wall.
To anyone observing in the dim light, it might have looked like playful flirting, but that wasnât the case. Bobby was only teasing her.
âHanging out with me could be just the kind of payback Jett deserves.â
âThis isnât about you,â Fannie retorted firmly. âIâd prefer if you and Judie stayed out of this.â
Bobby raised an eyebrow. âSo, have you figured out your plan for them?â
While Fannie did have a strategy in mind, she wasnât about to share it with Bobby. They never saw eye to eye, and Bobbyâs intentions were always self-serving. She had no desire to involve herself in his schemes.
âStay out of what doesnât concern you,â she responded, trying to keep her composure.
âTo me, youâre not just anyone,â Bobby replied, his tone lowering.
Fannie scoffed. âYou donât think weâre actually friends, do you?â
âNot in the slightest.â Bobby whispered in her ear, his breath warm against her skin. âThe next time you need something, come find me. Iâll be ready for you, rain or shine.â
With that, he walked away, his demeanor relaxed and carefree. As she watched him go, Fannie couldnât help but reflect on the differences between men and women.
Why did her legs ache while Bobby seemed to move effortlessly? Why should men have all the fun?
It was then that she resolved she deserved her share of enjoyment too. Any lingering feelings of guilt toward Jett vanished completely.
