Selma bit her lip, frustration evident in her eyes. She reluctantly gathered her gown and hurried after him.
About twenty minutes later, Bobby finally released Fannie, who took deep, ragged breaths of air.
She had been desperate to escape, but her legs now trembled beneath her, draining her of the strength to move.
âDid you ask Judie to come?â Fannieâs voice shook with confusion and disbelief.
She couldnât understand why Bobby had called Judie over, why he had orchestrated this show for Jett and Selma. But Judieâs performance had been convincing, enough to fool them completely. Without a hint of emotion crossing his face, Bobby adjusted his clothes and gave a slight nod.
Silence fell between them, heavy and suffocating. Fannie gripped her stomach, the pain evident on her face as she struggled to maintain her composure.
âSheâs a good girl,â she whispered, her voice trembling. âPlease, donât hurt her. Treat her kindly.â
Every chapter lives on g a lno vels ; comm With those final words, Fannie turned and began to limp away, her steps slow and labored as she made her exit.
Peering through the dimly lit crowd, Jett struggled to make out any clear figures. His mind kept returning to Judieâs unexpected appearance earlier. It seemed too coincidentalâwas she just a distraction for Bobby? Had Bobby been hiding alone in the restroom?
He hadnât seen Fannie. Had she been with Bobby all along? The thought made him shudder.
As the final group of models paraded down the runway, Jett felt a sudden tap on his shoulder. He turned to find Fannie standing beside a woman.
âJett, Iâd like you to meet someone,â Fannie said with a smile. âThis is Amy Rivera. Amy, meet Jett Lee, my boyfriend.â
Amy extended her hand with a friendly gesture, shaking Jettâs hand firmly.
âHello, Mr. Lee. Iâve heard quite a bit about you. Fannie, your boyfriend is even more attractive than Mayer,â she said warmly.
Fannie had recently taken Mayer Carter under her wing after he severed ties with a foreign agency. Known for her sharp instincts, Fannie wasted no time in snatching up the rising star. During his training stint overseas, Mayer had become quite the sensation, frequently causing a stir online with his striking features.
Amyâs comment, that Jett was more attractive than Mayer, was likely meant as a compliment. Fannie, however, saw them as entirely differentâeach appealing in their own right.
âHeâs alright, nothing special,â Fannie remarked casually, smiling as she linked her arm through Jettâs.
Jett returned the gesture, offering a couple of polite, sweet compliments to Amy. The conversation flowed easily, light and relaxed, until a staff member came over to request Amyâs assistance backstage.
âIâll leave you two to it then,â Amy said, giving them both a smile. âFannie, thereâs a party after the show. Hope to see you there. And donât forget to bring along those two artists you mentioned!â
