âWhat about being my fiancée?â
Desperate to escape Bobbyâs nonsense, Fannie quickened her pace, pushing herself forward until she could no longer hear his footsteps behind her.
Be his fiancée? Had he lost his mind? He was a playboy, through and through. Even if he got married, heâd still have affairs with other women. Becoming his fiancée wasnât just a bad ideaâit was a ticket to a lifetime of betrayal.
After her meeting with the lawyer, Fannie returned to the company, where her boss had some good news for her.
âSelma got the role in Director Whiteâs film. He chose her out of ten actresses at the audition.â As Selmaâs agent, Fannie was naturally proud.
She had signed Selma because of her exceptional acting skills. Among her peers, Selmaâs talent had always stood out. In the past, though, sheâd never quite had the right opportunity; luck had never been on her side. But landing a role in Director Whiteâs filmâeven a supporting oneâwas a significant step forward. It would give Selmaâs resume the kind of boost she needed.
âI knew she could pull it off,â Fannie said, a sense of pride in her voice.
Her boss sighed.
âYou know itâs not easy to get close to Director White.â
His words were laced with deeper meaning, but Fannie chose to ignore them.
âWith his status, itâs surprising that heâd personally come here to handpick performers. Fannie, weâre really benefiting from someone elseâs favor.â
Fannie looked up at him.
âLet me be honest with you. Jett and Bobby are at odds because of me. If you want to cozy up to Bobby, be prepared to give up on Jett.â
The boss blinked, momentarily stunned. He looked skeptical, but Fannieâs expression remained unwavering.
âWhy would Bobby be at odds with your boyfriend? Does he have feelings for you?â
Fannie rolled her eyes.
âOf course not. Heâs just messing around. Thereâs nothing between us, and there never will be.â
âOh no,â the boss muttered, his expression troubled. âThat must be why Director White made that request.â
Fannie furrowed her brows.
âWhat request?â
Afraid of angering her, the boss swallowed hard before speaking hesitantly.
âDirector White mentioned that, as Selmaâs agent, youâre required to accompany her throughout the entire filming process to address any issues that may arise. Now that I think about it⦠it must be a request from Bobby.â
Fannie straightened up, her motivation fading as she tossed the documents onto the table.
The filming location for the movie was out of town. Fannie and Selma flew out and joined the crew a few days later.
âThank you for coming with me, Fannie. I promise Iâll give this my best shot.â
