However, it worked out for the best; such a wonderful man was now hers. A cold wind blew, causing Allie to draw closer to Rafael.
âRafael, would you consider raising a child with me?â
Without pushing her away, Rafael replied, âAre you sure you can handle it? You still have so much growing up to do yourself.â
âThen you will be looking after two kids!â
Rafael, skeptical of her readiness, stopped and turned her to face him. âRaising a child is a serious commitment, not like caring for your pets. Itâs not enough to just feed them and then leave them alone. If itâs just a fleeting wish, we shouldnât go through with the adoption.â
Allie pouted. âDo you really think so little of me? I understand what it takes to be a parent. Iâm committed to ensuring my child never faces the struggles I did!â Her words were quite persuasive.
Rafael responded with patience, âJust be sure of it.â
Suddenly, Allie stretched up on her toes, raised her arms, and clasped them around Rafaelâs neck. âWill you stay with me if I do well?â
This time, Rafael answered without hesitation, âYes.â
Surprise flashed across Allieâs face. The prospect of happiness made her slightly nervous. âReally?â she asked. âDo you like me?â
âJust a bit.â
Rafael couldnât deny his feelings. Seeing Allie flirt with Chris had definitely bothered him. He couldnât discern if it was affection or possessiveness, and decided not to wrestle with those feelings any longer.
With his friends finding joy in relationships, Rafael was ready to abandon his lonely life. Allie wasnât a poor choice; she cared for him deeply. What else could he desire?
Yet, Allie felt insecure. Rafaelâs admission of caring âjust a bitâ made her hold him even tighter.
âRafael, Iâll do everything I can to fully earn your love.â
Rafael gently stroked her hair and said, âJust be yourself and trust in me.â
âOkay!â
Together, they strolled down the street, hand in hand. The orange glow of the streetlights stretched their shadows long across the pavement.
Days later, Allie and Rafael finalized the adoption and brought the young boy home to Bristania.
Meanwhile, Fannie had never been in such a situation. After leaving the hospital, she stood anxiously by the roadside, fumbling with her phone to call Dulce when it slipped from her grasp. As she stooped to retrieve it, Bobby approached.
âLet me drive you home.â
âThereâs no need.â
Bobby took her by the arm. âIf Wadeâs crew catches you on your way home, Iâll be blamed again.â He then guided Fannie into his car.
Her phone began to ring; it was Dulce on the other end. However, when Fannie picked up, Jettâs voice came through.
âFifi, are you alright? I heard there was trouble at Katherine and Shawnâs wedding!â
