Once alone, Joelle grasped Adrianâs hand tightly. For their child, she was ready to shoulder this burden.
Adrian responded with a comforting squeeze, his voice firm yet tender. âIâll face any repercussions with you.â
âTogether.â
âYes, together.â
The day before Katherineâs wedding, Rafael and Allie brought Chris back to the villa.
Rafael issued a clear command to the bodyguards. âTie him up and make sure heâs closely watched.â
âUnderstood, sir.â
Allie bent down and poked at Chrisâ cheek. His features were strikingly handsome. Under different circumstances, heâd likely be quite the heartthrob.
âWhy are we tying him up? He looks so miserable,â she queried. Rafael shot a cautious glance at Allie, trying to gauge her next move.
Allie met his gaze with an innocent smile. âWhat if I keep him in my room instead? I promise to keep an eye on him.â
After a momentâs hesitation, Rafael responded with a nonchalant shrug. âDo as you please.â With that, he walked away.
The playfulness in Allieâs expression vanished.
âYour nameâs Chris Potter, isnât it? Tell me, have you ever been with a woman?â Though Rafael was further away, her words still reached him. He quickened his stride without looking back.
Continuing her probing, Allie mused aloud, âBut then, if you havenât, how do you explain having a son?â
Chris remained silent, thinking that Allie might have some mental issues. He decided it was best to keep his distance and remain uninvolved.
Chris leaned back against the wall and watched Allie with a troubled look on her face.
âI wish I could be a mother. The doctor said it was impossible and Rafael wonât even consider having children with me.â
Chris swallowed hard. For now, he had no choice but to wait for Wade. Until then, he had to hold on.
âReally?â Free > Allie nodded.
âHow did you have a child? In what position did it take 19:56?â
Chrisâ cheeks flushed with embarrassment. He was stunned by her boldness. How could she ask about such personal matters without a trace of shyness? âI donât really remember. âOkay then.â Allie paused briefly.
âWhatâs it like being a parent?â
Chris thought for a moment.
âItâs a life, after all. It feels very important, like a responsibility.â As he spoke, his eyes lost their sparkle.
He wanted to be a good father to Ryland, but he hadnât spent a single day fulfilling his paternal duties.
