âWhat are you doing here?â
His smile faded as soon as he spotted Fannie.
Recalling the odd questions from Katherine earlier, he realized why Fannie had shown up. Those who knew him wellâlike Lily, Joelle, and Katherineâhad never seen him look so threatening.
Just as Fannie was about to burst into tears, Joelle stepped in.
âI invited Fannie.â
âNo need for you to defend her,â Bobby retorted, glaring at Fannie.
âWhatâs your problem? Weâre not even married, and youâre already meddling in my life?â
Shaking her head, Fannie whispered, âI only wantedâ¦â
âWhat exactly?â Bobby interrupted harshly.
âGet out of here. Donât show your face to me again. If you dare spread rumors around them, I wonât hold back.â
With tears streaming down her face, Fannie hurried away. In disbelief, Katherine exclaimed, âWhatâs wrong with you? Canât you see she likes you? Why are you treating her this way?â
âLike hell she does.â Bobby sat on the sofa, crossing his legs.
âSheâs only after a marriage of convenience, trying to use me for her own benefit! I wouldnât even want her as a trophy wife.â
âUsing you for her benefit? Why would she latch onto someone like you? Get real! Youâre ignoring a great girl while you mess around with all those others!â
Growing furious, Katherine grabbed Bobbyâs collar and pulled it open, exposing multiple hickeys, some fresh and some fading. She was seething. âDonât you worry about getting sick?â
Bobby was just as frustrated.
âWhy do you have to act like youâre my father?â He rose from his seat, no longer interested in treating the girls to lunch.
âI guess I just canât hang out with you anymore. Catch you later.â
Just outside the bridal shop, Bobby spotted Fannie skulking by his car.
âWhatâs going on here?â
âOops, my bad! I was just kicking some stones and one accidentally hit your car.â
Bobby was amused, yet he quickly turned his attention to his car.
There was a new dent beneath the window. He was familiar with every inch of his car. It had been in perfect condition before he entered the bridal shop. Now, because of this woman, it was damaged.
âWas this intentional?â
Terrified that Bobby might get violent, Fannie hurriedly apologized.
âIâm so sorry! Iâll cover the costs! It was an accident, I swear!â
âCover it? Do you even have the money? This paint job was a special order from overseas, and they donât make it anymore!â
âI swear it was an accident!â
âI donât believe you!â Bobby grabbed Fannie by the wrist, opened his car door, and shoved her inside.
