Joelle leaned forward, her voice sincere. âShawn and I would like to express our gratitude. You were there for us when my family faced those tough times. Thank you so much.â
âOh, my dear,â Agate replied, her voice thick with emotion. Both she and Turner lifted their glasses, acknowledging the toast with a nod to Joelle.
Adrian joined in, his glass held high. âA heartfelt thanks to you both for your unwavering support of Joelle and Shawn.â
âAnd you better take good care of Joelle. Remember, sheâs not without allies!â Agate, with a mock stern look that belied the warmth in her eyes, pointed a finger at Adrian.
âUnderstood.â Adrian chuckled, the tension easing around the table.
Turner then steered the conversation toward the matter at hand. âSo, Shawn, have you and Katherine settled on a date for the wedding?â
Shawn replied, âWeâve shortlisted a few promising dates. Weâd be honored if you could help us choose.â
They presented dates ranging from six months to the following spring.
With all options open and appealing, the families decided to put it to a vote.
Joelle was the first to voice her preference.
âIâm all for spring. Itâll be warm enough for Katherine to wear the most stunning wedding dress!â
Katherine tapped the table softly, smiling broadly.
âYouâre truly my best friend! You know exactly what Iâm thinking!â
Joelle returned the smile with a knowing wink, signaling her complete understanding.
However, Shawn was eager to move things along sooner.
âWhy not consider a winter wedding? We could escape to a warmer locale in the south or even jet off somewhere international. Iâm eager to make you my wife, Katherine,â he murmured, his ears blushing a soft red as he gave her a loving look.
Amused, Agate chimed in with a grin, âWell, how shall we decide then? Adrian, what do you think?â
Adrian simply stated, âIâll listen to Joelle.â
âYay!â Joelle cheered, looping her arm through Adrianâs and resting her head on his shoulder, beaming with pride.
âLooks like weâre leading two votes to one!â Joelle declared, tousling Adrianâs hair playfully, pleased with his support. âGood boy,â she teased, while Adrian mock-pouted in response.
Katherine jumped back into the discussion. âHold on, I havenât had my say yet. Iâm actually leaning towards an earlier date as well!â
Agate and Turner exchanged glances, both aware that the final decision rested with them.
As a father, Turner felt the weight of the occasion deeply and thus aligned with Joelleâs earlier suggestion. Agate, however, felt that the longer they delayed, the greater the risk of complications. She sided with Katherine and Shawn. The air crackled with tension as a vigorous debate unfolded.
