Allie responded with assurance, âIâve got this!â
They all ended up in Switzerland, by chance staying at the same hotel. Worn out from their travels, Aurora dozed off immediately upon disembarking from the plane. Adrian and Joelle decided it was best to take Aurora straight to the hotel for some rest.
Once settled in the car, Joelle voiced her concerns to Adrian.
âDo you really think Rafael and Allie are in a relationship, especially considering Rafaelâs historical issues with Allieâs dad?â
Adrian took a moment to think, then asked, âWhat do you care about him so much?â
âHuh?â
âYou can only care for me.â Adrianâs tone carried an unexpected hint of jealousy.
Joelleâs brow creased. âIâm serious here.â
âSo am I,â Adrian countered, gently squeezing her chin. Joelle felt a little embarrassed with the driver in the front.
âAdie, stop this.â
âAlright.â Adrian then circled back to Joelleâs initial query. âI donât believe Rafael would truly be interested in her.â
Joelle replied, âBut Allie is actually quite nice, you know.â
âNice? Sheâs just good at putting on a show. Whatâs so admirable about that?â
Adrian, whose knack for discerning true character had sharpened over time, often displayed this to Joelle in their daily interactions.
âIs that so?â
âIsnât it obvious?â
Joelle couldnât help but smile. She noticed that Allieâs flattery often seemed a tad excessive and somewhat sycophantic. However, as people generally enjoyed compliments, and given Joelleâs previous encounters with Allie, she usually dismissed any skepticism she felt.
âIf she manages to sustain this facade her entire life, that might just be a skill worth noting.â
Elsewhere, Allie and Rafael climbed into a car, setting off for the city. Michael, preferring not to impose or feel like an outsider, chose to take a different car at the airport, following his own travel plans.
The chill was biting in Switzerland. Allie entered the car shivering, promptly warming her hands and nestling into Rafaelâs coat with a cheerful grin. Rafael, on his part, always considered Allie a bit uncouth. Her behavior was consistently rowdy, whether at the dining table, in the car, or even during sleep. Yet, she had somehow endeared herself to Rafael, who typically found her quite vexing.
At that moment, Rafael seemed unbothered by her antics. He looked at her with a teasing smile, raised an eyebrow, and asked, âFeeling cold?â
Allie nodded, her hand slipping into Rafaelâs coat as she gave him a playful smile, her fingers teasing him with provocative touches.
Rafael caught her hand. âWant to warm up? One million.â
Allie frowned, her displeasure unmistakable. âNot interested? Fine.â Rafael feigned an attempt to pull away, and Allie quickly nodded. âLet me get my ten millionâs worth first!â
Rafael stayed composed, enveloping Allieâs petite frame in his coat before turning his gaze out the window. The landscape was breathtaking, but his expression abruptly shifted.
