Shawnâs hand throbbed painfully.
âDonât move from here.â
He made his way to the nurseâs station to procure a Band-Aid, glancing back every few seconds to ensure that Katherine remained in place. Once the nurse had expertly bandaged his wound, he returned and grasped Katherineâs hand, leading her to the window.
âAre you jealous?â he asked.
âNo.â
Shawn simulated a sense of relief.
âThatâs good. Isnât this precisely what you desired, seeing me and Lily together?â
Shawnâs comment abruptly brought Katherine back to the present.
gⱯlnÏνððsâ¤com takes you to new worlds âYes, I was the one who introduced you to Lily. Congratulations seem fitting; your relationship has indeed progressed. If Iâd known you wanted to see her, I wouldnât have stayed at the hospital this whole time.â
As Katherine turned to walk away, a strong pull on her arm stopped her, and suddenly, she was wrapped in Shawnâs warm embrace.
Katherineâs initial reaction was to escape, but Shawnâs firm grip immobilized her, her heart racing faster with each passing second.
âYouâre clearly jealous, just admit it.â
Angered, Katherine stomped hard on Shawnâs foot, managing to free herself from his grasp. âShawn, who do you think you are? You can be close to anyone you choose. Do you really think Iâd waste my time being jealous of you?â
âIt makes no difference whether you admit it or not.â
As Shawn advanced, Katherine retreated until her back hit the wall.
âI canât accept that you feel nothing for me.â A confident smile played across Shawnâs face.
Katherine detested that smug look, as if he had her cornered like a mouse. Who did he think he was? How much did he presume to know about her? Why did he believe he could understand all her thoughts and actions so effortlessly? Such arrogance.
âShawn, you think youâre so smart, using Lily to provoke me, manipulating me with your dual identities. Do you feel proud of yourself now?â
To anyone observing, Katherineâs demeanor was unmistakably cold and hostile.
Shawn took a step back, giving Katherine some space.
âI donât.â
âYou donât?â Katherine locked eyes with Shawn. They were in a shadowy corner where even the faintest light from outside failed to penetrate.
Shawnâs features were sharply defined.
âThen answer me thisâare you Frankie?â Shawnâs eyelashes fluttered.
A brief silence ensued, lasting only a couple of seconds, yet it seemed to stretch on forever.
Katherine scoffed derisively. âIs that all you have to say?â
âKatherineâ¦â Shawn reached out for her hand, but she moved away.
âDonât touch me.â
âKatherine, I made a mistake.â
Katherine inhaled deeply. âYou didnât make a mistake; I was just naive. Itâs better we clear the air now. I truly hope you and Lily find happiness together.â
