âAlright,â Adrian responded, taking her hand.
âWeâll do it together.â
âYes.â Joelle cradled his face, and the tall man bent his head to her with compliance.
âDonât worry, Adrian, Iâm not leaving you.â Wrapping her in his arms, Adrian said, âEven if you did, I wouldnât hold it against you. Yet, it means the world to me that you choose me.â
âSilly.â Joelle lifted her hand to admire her diamond ring, which gleamed brilliantly in the light.
The family of three set off for the airport early the next morning. Not long after they left, Mila and Stephen arrived for a visit. Leah received them.
âWhereâs Adrian?â Stephen asked.
Aware of the recent trouble Mila and Stephen had stirred for Adrian and Joelle, Leahâs response was cold and distant. âTheyâre on a trip, sort of a honeymoon.â
Mila winced a little. âWhen are they supposed to return?â
âIâm not sure. Theyâre taking some time to relax. Mr. Miller has been so busy over the years; heâs eager to devote more time to his family now.â
Leahâs tone hinted at the deep bond between the couple.
Stephen had come with the intention to resolve some issues and, if needed, was prepared to insist on a familial alliance. However, he found he was too late.
âMila, letâs return home. I will find someone better for you.â Mila couldnât hold back her anger and threw a cushion to the floor.
âDo you think this is your home?â Leah seized the moment to express her own irritation.
âMake a scene in your own house! Thereâs no need to act all high and mighty around here.â Milaâs expression turned scornful.
âAnd who are you to raise your voice at me?â
âWhy shouldnât I? You come into this house acting superior. Is that how you behave?â
Stephen pounded on the table. âYou will not speak to my granddaughter that way! Apologize now!â
âApologize for what?â Leah retorted, her attitude aggressive.
âBefore Mr. Miller left, he said if anyone from the Finch family came, we didnât need to be polite!â
Adrian had foreseen such an encounter.
Stephen was seething.
âHow dare he disrespect me like this?â
âMr. Miller told us that the Finch family is constantly plotting against others and has no shame. We donât owe any courtesy to people like that!â
âThis is ridiculous!â Stephen clutched his chest. âYou overstep your boundaries, acting as if you own the place!â
His anger was evident, though his voice had grown weak and loud.
Mila was startled and quickly supported him.
âGrandpa, are you okay?â
âIâm fine,â Stephen managed to say, steadying himself. âYou nagging woman, apologize to my granddaughter.â
