Callan noticed his troubled expression.
âMr. Miller, whatâs wrong? Did something happen?â
Adrian shook his head.
âNothing.â
He understood. It was only yesterday that he had proposed, and yet today, Joelle showed no hesitation in casting him aside. It was fine. In comparison to Ryland, he knew he was destined to lose without question.
Even if the choice were between Aurora and Joelle, he would be utterly at a loss as to how to decide.
âMr. Miller?â
âItâs nothing. Continue with your work.â

The moment Joelle stepped outside, her excitement was palpable. She immediately called the police to report the issue regarding Wadeâs biological mother.
The response she received, however, was not what she had hoped for.
âWe previously looked into it. We visited her registered address, but she had already left by the time we arrived.â
This news dampened half of Joelleâs hope.
Next, she called Shawn.
âShawn, can you help me find someone?â
âWho are you looking for?â
âChris and Wadeâs biological mother.â
Upon hearing the details, Shawn agreed without hesitation.
âOf course.â
At that time, he was still in Katherineâs hospital room. Before Joelleâs call, Shawn had been relaxing on the sofa with a magazine while Katherine chatted with Frankie.
The conversation was brief; Frankie had to leave for work and soon became less responsive.
Once the call with Joelle ended, Shawn got ready to leave. Katherine inquired, âWhere are you headed?â
âJoelle needs my help to find someone.â
Katherine, throwing aside her bedcovers, insisted, âIâm coming with you!â
âYou need to rest.â
Despite not being fully recovered, Katherine insisted on accompanying Shawn, suspicious he might be hiding something.
âI feel better now. Are you worried Iâll uncover something youâre hiding?â
Shawn hesitated before responding casually, âWhat would I be hiding? If youâre set on coming, then letâs go.â
That same day, Katherine was discharged from the hospital and joined Shawn on a trip to Illerith.
Noor Graves, the mother of Wade and Chris, had once been an opera singer. At that time, opera singers were not highly regarded, and Noor had never expected to marry into a wealthy family.
However, after having two children, her physique and voice changed, making a return to her former career impossible, and she settled into family life. It was then that she realized she was just a mistress kept on the side.
