âYes. Even if it is a person!â Stephen asserted with unwavering conviction.
Joelle fell silent for a moment. After thorough contemplation, her resolve solidified with unwavering firmness.
âRyland holds immense significance for me, but so does Adrian. While you may not be dependable, Adrian certainly is. Therefore, I choose Adrian.â
Stephenâs composure wavered slightly; Joelleâs response was entirely unexpected.
âDonât you want your son anymore?â
Joelle picked up her bag and stood. âI will never relinquish my quest to locate Ryland, but along this arduous path, I cannot bear the prospect of losing anyone else.â
âJoelle, think it over!â
Joelle offered no reply; her departure, without a backward glance, spoke volumes. She had carefully considered her decision and felt no remorse.
Though this tactic had failed, Stephen maintained his composure.
After Joelle left, he called Adrian.
To his surprise, Adrian hung up on him.
Unfazed, Stephen called again, only to be hung up on once more. In a fit of rage, Stephen slammed his phone down and seized the driverâs phone.
This time, Adrian finally answered.
âAdrian Miller! Why did you hang up on me?â
âIâve made it abundantly clear that I will no longer engage in any dealings with the Finch family. It seems your memory is faltering; perhaps you should be vigilant for early signs of dementia.â
âGuess who I just met?â Stephen asked.
âIf youâre so idle, perhaps your son could procure some newspapers to keep you occupied.â
Stephen, unable to restrain himself any longer, cut straight to the chase.
âI just met Joelle!â
At the mere mention of Joelleâs name, Adrianâs expression darkened. Callan was oblivious to the unfolding situation, but Adrianâs expression unmistakably conveyed a stark warning: he was in a bad mood.
âWhat did you say to her?â
Stephen responded with a smug grin. âI offered her a choice. I can assist her in locating her son, but she must sever ties with you. Guess what she chose?â
Adrian didnât need to speculate; he understood the profound significance Ryland held for Joelle. He bore her no blame; anyone would struggle with such a difficult dilemma.
âDo you think this will make me be with Mila?â
Stephen asked, âWhatâs wrong with my granddaughter? If you can develop feelings for Joelle, why canât you make an effort to like Mila? At least she would never forsake you for anyone.â
âEven if Joelle relinquishes her faith in me, I will never leave her. If you have nothing else, Iâll hang up.â
Stephen made another call, but even the driverâs number had been blocked by Adrian.
Adrian set his phone down, his heart weighed down by a profound sense of sorrow.
