âI just want to share a few thoughts; it wonât take more than two minutes. I miss you. Donât you miss me?â Katherine glanced down at the screen, a playful smile tugging at her lips.
Shawn appeared to be leisurely sipping his coffee, but the curiosity in his eyes was unmistakable. However, with his assistant logged into his account, he found himself unable to investigate further.
Damn it.
What were they talking about?
Why was she smiling like that?
He hoped his assistant wouldnât get too interested in Katherine.
Meanwhile, Joelle was preparing to be discharged, eager to continue her recovery in the comfort of her home. Her body had largely healed, and she no longer required assistance to walk. With continued rehabilitation, she would soon regain her natural gait.
On Joelleâs first day back home, Adrian cleared his evening schedule to spend quality time with her. That night, they relaxed in bed, watching cartoons with Aurora.
At that moment, Adrian received a call from Callan.

âMr. Miller, I apologize for the interruption, but a client is facing an urgent issue that requires your immediate attention.â
âLetâs deal with it tomorrow.â
It must have been important if Callan was reaching out now.
âMr. Miller, this is a serious situation. A prominent figure with considerable influence is insisting that you handle it personally.â
Joelle, sensing the weight of the situation, asked, âWhich client is it?â
âItâs a client referred by the Finch family, who have a longstanding relationship with the Miller family. Something has come up, and itâs likely Stephen stirring up trouble.â
If Adrian chose to go, there was no telling when he would return.
Joelle didnât want to complicate things for him. âItâs okay; you should go.â
Adrian pressed his lips into a thin line.
Why should he prioritize an outsider over his family?
He instructed Callan, âTell them that if they wish to meet with me, they can wait until tomorrow. If thatâs unacceptable, then I suggest they cancel the deal. Iâm not concerned either way.â
It was just a penalty fee, something he could easily afford. But it wasnât about the money; it was about reputation.
Given the prominence and influence of the Miller family, no one would dare tarnish Adrianâs reputation.
Any partner or client forsaken by the Miller family, even at the cost of a penalty fee ten times the usual amount, would soon find themselves with no alternatives.
However, just a few days later, Stephen devised another scheme to lure Adrian out at night.
It was clear that he was trying to disrupt Adrian and Joelleâs lives.
