Sensing the tension between them, Shawn asked, âWhat makes you ask that?â
âItâs nothing,â Katherine said with an icy calmness. âJust give me the food.â
âAlright.â
Shawn avoided looking at her as she ate, instead stepping out of the ward to calm his suddenly frayed nerves. Katherine wouldnât have asked that question without a reason. Surely, heâd done something to make her suspicious.
But what could it have been?
Shawn took out his phone, and an uncomfortable silence filled the air.
The next day, before Shawn even arrived at Katherineâs ward, she had already contacted Arlo.
To her surprise, she discovered that Arlo wasnât Frankie at all. The real Frankie was standing right before her. It became clear why Shawn had developed feelings for her.
Katherine had always found Shawnâs behavior toward her erratic and unpredictable. After she broke ties with Frankie, Shawn seemed to avoid her presence.
Wasnât that behavior suspicious?
Great. Just great.
gⱯlnÏνððsâ¤com, the heart of storytelling Katherine was so seething with anger that sleep eluded her throughout the entire night.
Shawn had been manipulating her emotions all these years.
âWhy are you staring at me like that? Is there something on my face?â he asked, confusion evident in his voice.
Katherine scoffed inwardly as she watched Shawn continue with his act. âShawn, Iâm giving you one last chance. If you tell me the truth now, Iâll let it go.â
âTell you what, exactly?â Shawn seemed genuinely baffled. âI have nothing to hide from you.â
âYouâre still pretending!â Katherine was on the verge of losing control when her old phone rang again. It was a message from Frankie: âKeyla, how have you been?â
But Frankie was Shawn!
Katherine studied Shawn from head to toe. He wasnât holding a phone, so it wasnât him messaging her.
She couldnât quite figure out how Shawn was pulling this off, but she was certain he was hiding something again.
âFrankie messaged me,â she said, her voice trembling with frustration.
âOh, really?â Shawn said, shrugging off his coat and sitting down on the sofa. âIsnât that nice?â
âWhat do you think I should reply?â
âReply however you want.â
With his watchful eyes on her, Katherine typed a message on her phone. âIâve been doing well. How about you?â The response came back almost instantly, yet Shawn still hadnât touched his phone.
âThatâs good to hear.â
âOur last encounter ended poorly. There are some things I need to tell you in person. Shall we meet again?â
Frankie replied, âI apologize; Iâve been very busy lately.â
