Adrian nodded.
âThe Potter family was once a well-established dynasty in Illerith. However, a few years ago, Wade broke away from the family to forge his own path, starting a new business venture with his younger brother by his side. Wade is young but very capable.â
Joelle nodded, her gaze remaining fixed on the tablet.
âItâs truly remarkable to grow a company to this size in such a short amount of time.â
Her words were a simple statement of fact, but Adrianâs eyes lingered on her before he asked, âWhat about me?â
Noticing his unease, Joelle responded, âYouâre even more remarkable.â
A subtle smile crept onto Adrianâs lips as he straightened his posture, exuding newfound confidence.
âKeep reading.â

âYes,â Adrian nodded. âHe was just eighteen when he passed away.â
Joelleâs mind worked quickly, doing the math. That meant Chris had been just eighteen when he fathered a child with Katie.
No wonder Katie had been reluctant to reveal the childâs father; it wasnât exactly something to boast about.
Adrian continued, âI spoke with Katie. Her initial plan was to use Ryland to marry into the Potter family, but before he was born, Chris passed away.â
Joelle set the tablet aside.
âWhy didnât she seek child support from the Potter family? She abandoned Ryland, and it nearly cost him his life.â
Adrian had considered this very question. He took a sip of his coffee.
âKatie and her mother only wanted to marry into a wealthy family, not to be widows.â
Joelle leaned back against the sofa, her head finding a comfortable resting place on Adrianâs shoulder.
âWhat did Wade tell you today?â
Adrian recalled the scene in his office with Wade. If Joelle had witnessed it, she might have been moved to tears.
âHe told me that after his brotherâs death, he was left alone without any family. When he found out by chance that Chris had a child, he felt compelled to raise the child himself.â
Hearing this, Joelle felt a bit less hostile toward Wade.
âSo, heâs quite sincere.â
Adrian nodded.
