âDonât worry, Joelle. Iâm digging into their background. The more we understand, the better equipped weâll be to handle this.â
âOkay.â
Their conversation continued, and Joelle came to realize the opposing party had reasonable intentions. Once she acknowledged their sincerity, her demeanor relaxed a bit.
âWeâll go over this in more detail tonight after I return.â
âAlright. Iâll be there to pick you up from work.â
âOkay.â
Upon her return, Katherine glanced at the clock and dialed Lilyâs number.
âHow are things on your end, Lily?â
âIâm still chatting with Shawn.â
Katherine turned to Joelle with a look of surprise. Joelle hadnât expected Shawn to still be around; she thought heâd have left already.
âThat just shows heâs not really into me,â Katherine said. Joelle felt something was amiss.
âWe should go and see for ourselves.â
They returned to the cafe where they had left earlier and found Shawn still there.
Earlier, he and Lily had been seated opposite each other, but now they sat close together.
âYou two seem to be enjoying each otherâs company,â Katherine said, her voice neutral.
Lily, turning slightly red, looked at Shawn and nodded.
âYes, weâre really hitting it off.â
Shawn grinned.
âI havenât had such engaging conversations in a long time.â
His arm was placed on the back of the couch behind Lily. He wasnât touching her, but from where Katherine stood, it seemed as though Lily was nestled in his arms. Joelle observed the interaction quietly, a small smile playing on her lips.
âI guess my matchmaking skills are better than I thought. If you two are getting along this well, I donât have to worry anymore,â Katherine teased.
âLetâs head out, Joelle. I just remembered something else I need to pick up. Will you join me?â
Immediately after they left, Shawn let his arm fall. Lily nervously swallowed.
âShawn, I donât think Kathy has feelings for you.â
âThanks. Iâve settled the bill already. I need to get going; thereâs something I have to handle,â Shawn responded, his face betraying nothing, yet Lily could feel his disappointment.
âShawn!â Lily gathered her courage. âIf Kathy isnât into you, would you give me a chance?â
Shawn offered her a courteous smile.
