Nathaniel was staring at the sunset, lost in thought.
He didnât even notice her presence until she walked up to him.
âYouâre back!â
He tried to stand up, but it was obviously a struggle.
âI was so absorbed in the sunset that I forgot the time.
Are you hungry? Let me cook you something.
â
âNo need.
If you arenât feeling well, Iâll give you the day off.
â
Lucinda pressed his shoulder and made him sit back down.
The second she touched him, she felt that his body was chilly.
Lucinda frowned.
âWhy are you so cold? And you look pale.
Does your back still hurt?â
Nathaniel smiled at her reassuringly.
âNo, it doesnât hurt anymore.
Maybe Iâve been lying in bed for so long, which would explain why my body is cold.
Iâll be fine after resting for a few days.
â
Lucinda narrowed her eyes at him.
She didnât believe a word he said.
His voice was weak, and his body trembled ever so slightly.
It was as clear as day that he was struggling to stay composed.
âLet me see the wound,â she said decisively, reaching out to take off his suit.
Nathaniel, however, clutched his collar tightly.
âIâm fine, really.
Itâs almost healed, and besides, itâs wrapped with gauze.
You wonât be able to see it even if you take off my clothes.
â
He was right.
Realizing this, Lucinda let go of him.
Nathaniel immediately lost his balance, and his body swayed unsteadily.
He hurriedly grabbed the arms of the chair to steady himself .
Noticing that Lucinda was staring at him, he pretended to be relaxed and said, âItâs rare to see you care about me like this.
Iâm honored.
â
Lucinda rolled her eyes at him in exasperation.
But because he did save her this time, she didnât try to fight him.
