However, as soon as he put a spoonful into his mouth, he gagged and almost spat it all out.
âWhy⦠Why does this tase burnt?â
Lucinda lowered her eyes, her cheeks flushed.
She couldnât very well say that she had forgotten to stir the pot because she was distracted by the matter with Eleanor.
âIf you donât like the taste, then donât eat it.
You can make some for yourself later.
â She reached out to take the bowl back.
But Nathaniel twisted his torso and held it away from her.
He proceeded to eat it all up in a matter of seconds.
The soup tasted awful, though, and he had to do his best not to retch every time he put another spoonful in his mouth.
After swallowing the last of it, he proudly held up the empty bowl and showed it to her.
Lucindaâs face was blank.
She knew the soup must have tasted horrible.
But since Nathaniel had gobbled it all up, it was time for the next step.
She took out a piece of paper that Abel had printed out earlier and calmly handed it over to Nathaniel.
âTake a look, and then sign it.
â
Nathaniel lightheartedly accepted the sheet of paper.
But when read the text above the document, he immediately grew angry.
âYou want to terminate the agreement?â
âYes,â Lucinda said calmly, trying to counter his overreaction.
âIâve made rough calculations.
Youâve repaid what you owed me.
Arenât you happy that the contract can be terminated, and you can return to the Roberts family and resume a life of Luxury and privilege?â
His goal had been to pay for what he had done and hurt her and Nathaniel was glad she felt he had done so.
Butâ¦
âYou told me we would never see each other again after I paid for what I did to you.
Is that still true?â
Lucinda nodded.
âYes.
â
âThen I wonât sign it.
Only half a month has passed.
I havenât finished paying yet!â
He frowned and tried to pass the termination agreement back to her.
She refused to take it.
