Realizing what time it was, Dulcie quickly packed up and ran to the elevator.
She got to the underground parking lot, but didnât see Kysonâs car anywhere.
It had been more than ten minutes after work.
If he had come, he would have called her after waiting for like 5 minutes.
But he didnât call⦠She was right; he wasnât going to show up.
Her heart sank; she was drowned by a wave of disappointment.
Dulcie stood there helplessly.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps.
Thinking it was Kyson, she turned around, excited.
Her smile dropped as she saw Kurt.
Kurt gave her a warm smile.
âMr.
Shaw had some stuff to deal with today and didnât come to the company.
He might have gone back home by now.
I could take you home if youâd Like.
â
Dulcie lowered her gaze.
She was extremely disappointed.
She shouldnât be surprised though.
âIâm good, thank you.
â She declined his offer.
âI have some other things to attend to.
Iâll return home later.
Thank you for the offer.
Drive safely.
â
Bunny Bookery
Kurt nodded curtly.
âOkay.
Get home safe, Mrs.
Shaw.
â
Dulcie turned around and walked into the elevator.
She decided to exit the building from the front gate.
Not having enough money to take a taxi, she chose to take a bus and then took the subway just to be familiar with the future route of commuting.
At the lab, Colby sat on the bed, focused on what he was writing.
Kindergarten had closed and Destinee was sitting opposite him, doing her homework.
âWhat are you writing?â she asked Colby as she tilted her head to get a good view of Colbyâs paper.
âIâm planning how to redecorate the aquarium.
I plan to give it to Kyson.
Iâll ask him to buy small animals according to the plan and redecorate the aquarium,â Colby replied calmly.
Curious, Destinee moved closer to him, staring at his work.
He was only five but he had a clear mind.
His drawing wasnât perfect but it could be easily understood.
Destinee noticed that there was no place for dolphins in his drawing, causing her to grow sad.
âWhat about the dolphins? Do you not Like them? Where will my Libby live?â
Colby snorted.
âWhy do you even like dolphins? Theyâre just childish marine creatures.
They donât match my disposition.
I plan to raise ferocious animals⦠animals that could eat someone as big as you.
â
Destineeâs eyes watered.
Her lips quivered as she spoke.
âYouâre lying.
Just yesterday, you had a good time with Libby.
And now you think dolphins are childish? So much so that you want to destroy their home⦠And you want the fierce animals to eat me? You donât like me anymore?â
Colby didnât know what to say or do, He hated seeing girls cry.
âYou like Libby this much?â
âLibby was my first birthday gift from Kyson.
Itâs been my friend for four years.
â Her cheeks were wet with tears.
She knew the aquarium belonged to her brother.
He could transform it into anything he wanted.
If he didnât want the dolphin hall anymore, Libby would be homeless in a matter of seconds.
She wouldnât be able to do anything so she could only cry and hope Colby would change his mind.
Colby reached for the box of tissues on the bedside table and got her some with a slight frown.
âQuit crying⦠I wonât talk to you anymore if you keep crying.
I donât like girls who cry.
â
Destinee wiped her tears quietly.
âIâll stop crying if you donât remove the dolphins from the aquariumâ¦â
âIf you had to choose between Libby and your own brother, what would you do?â Colby asked.
Destinee stared at him wide eyed.
Why would he ask that? She didnât know what to say.
Would he act differently toward her if she chose Libby?
âIâLL⦠Iâll choose you.
â
Colby was a bit surprised.
âBut⦠why? You just said you Like Libby a lot.
â
âIâll miss Libby, yes.
But I canât compare that to Losing my brother.
Libby is my good friend and youâre my good friend and also my family.
â
Pleased by her answer, Colby patted her head with his free hand.
âFine, Iâll keep the dolphin hall for you.
â
âReally? Thank you!â Destinee smiled brightly.
Meanwhile, Lucinda and Nathan were eavesdropping outside the ward.
They were both glad Colby changed his mind.
His mentality seemed to have been getting better since they took him to the aquarium.
The animals really helped.
