âJenniferâ¦â
She wasnât interested in any explanations.
She huffed in displeasure and walked out.
Hilliard hurriedly completed the final steps of making the coffee and caught up with her.
âI was approached, but I didnât engage.
â
As they walked, Jennifer inquired, âDo you think Hertha is beautiful?â
âWho?â Hilliard was confused.
âWho is Hertha?â
âThe lady who invited you to see a movie this weekend.
â
He pondered for a moment and realized he couldnât recall Herthaâs face.
âI didnât even give her a second look.
I canât picture her.
â
She smirked and said, âYou two had a nice chat.
How can you forget what she looks like?â
âUmâ¦â
After a momentâs thought, he admitted, âShe has long, black hair, right?â
Suppressing her laughter, Jennifer didnât respond and entered her office.
Hilliard obediently placed the coffee on her desk, then returned to his workstation across from
hers, ready to dive right back into his work.
Looking at him, Jennifer said, âI have a dinner appointment tonight.
I canât give you a ride home.
You can work late at the office and then return to the home on your own when youâre done.
â
âA dinner appointment?â Hilliard was taken aback.
He turned to her and asked, âWith whom? A man or a woman?â
She scoffed, âSince when does an employee get involved in their bossâs personal matters?â
He responded with seriousness, âAs your secretary, itâs my duty to ensure your safety.
After what happened with Dr@per last time, I wonât let such incidents occur again.
â
Despite being her secretary, his tone remained cold and unyielding, lacking the respect usually shown to a superior.
He came across as resolute, as if his words were non-negotiable.
Jennifer was stunned.
After a brief pause, she replied to his question, âItâs a business gathering, with both men and women in attendance.
While I plan to have a few drinks, I donât think anyone will attempt to drug me this time.
â
Hilliard stated firmly, âConsidering itâs a business event, itâs only right that, as your secretary, I stay by your side to ensure your safety.
Therefore, Iâll accompany you.
â
âBut your work isnât finished yet,â Jennifer remarked, taking a look at his computer screen.
