"I-impossible. No. No way. My granddaughter...is a half-vampire now?" BÃng Huoâs grandpa fell to the chair with a loud thud. The old man slumped on the chair as sweat trickled down his wrinkled face.
His eyes looked like a dead fish. The pupil turned white, and maybe he would faint with foam flowing out of his mouth.
"My...granddaughter..."
"Uh...grandpa? Are you ok?" BÃng Huo released Xi Xueâs arm and approached her grandfather. He seemed like heâs about to die any moment
"You think Iâm okay?" The old man grunted. He shook his head and let out a long sigh. "Are you truly...a half-vampire now?" The old man looked up at the girl while still slumping on the chair.
He didnât have any energy to fix his posture. All he could do was to look at his one and only granddaughter, seeking affirmation.
"Well, yes, thatâs true. I...become a half-vampire." BÃng Huo shrugged. She then came closer to her grandfather before hooking the old manâs arm.
"Can you stand up, grandpa?" The girl asked while pulling her grandpa so that he could fix his sitting position.
"Why ask when you already pull me up?" The old man snorted. He clicked his tongue as he wiped his forehead with his left sleeve.
BÃng Huo chuckled as she tried to help her grandpa to sit down. "Should I help you to sitâ "
"No, itâs alright. Iâm not as weak as you think." BÃng Huoâs grandpa waved his hand, shaking off BÃng Huoâs grip on his right arm. The old man then made a shoo-ing gesture, chasing BÃng Huo away from his table.
Seeing this, BÃng Huo could only smile bitterly while walking back to Xi Xueâs place. Once she stood beside the young man, the girl curled up her lips.
âIt seems that grandpa isnât that shocked...thatâs good then, right?â
The old man might look composed right now, but he definitely looked shocked to the core a few minutes ago. Still, as the headmaster of a well-known academy, he managed to regain his calm in no time.
"Ha...." The headmaster propped his elbows on the table and sighed. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath before slowly parting his lips.
"I get it. Huo Huo, you are now...a half-vampire." His stern voice echoed in the closed library-like office. The old man stroked his long beard while looking at Xi Xue solemnly.
"Young man. Do you know what is the fate of a mixed-blood?" He suddenly asked out of the blue.
Xi Xue flinched. The young man gritted his teeth and nodded. "I know. Humans often try to detest mixed-blood and will ostracise them from society."
"If you know, then why..." The old man held his breath. He glared menacingly at Xi Xue. "Why did you turn my granddaughter into a half-vampire?!"
BOOM!
The old man released his aura, and the atmosphere changed. Xi Xue felt a tense pressure slamming down his body, just like facing a huge mountain.
His knees suddenly bent, and the young manâs body arched forward until he had to squeeze his knees if he didnât want to kneel on the floor
Sweat immediately soaked his forehead and back, and Xi Xue squeezed his eyes.
The aura was actually not a big deal if he used his own sacred beast aura, but for an unknown reason, he didnât use any and just withstood it with his pure physical power.
Seeing Xi Xue like that, BÃng Huoâs body stiffened. She glared at her grandpa with eyes full of fury.
"Grandpa! What did you do??" BÃng Huo yelled. She hurriedly hugged Xi Xue to minimise the pressure the guy felt, but to no avail.
âWhat is this? Why is my grandpa suddenly angry??â
"Grandpa, itâs not his fault. I know the risk, but Iâ " BÃng Huo tried to speak up for Xi Xue, yet the man raised his palm and halted BÃng Huoâs speech. He smiled faintly and shook his head.
BÃng Huoâs heart skipped a beat. That wry smile on Xi Xueâs face just stabbed her heart.
âWhy? Why does he look like he is expecting this?â
"Xi Xue..." BÃng Huo wanted to ask the man, but Xi Xue didnât look at her anymore. The young man slowly lifted his head and threw his gaze at the old man a meter away from him.
"Iâm sorry. I know what I did is wrong, but..." Xi Xue bit his lips. He slowly bowed 90° at the old man. "I will take responsibility. I will not let your granddaughter suffer anything. So, please, please believe me."
"And why should I believe you?" The old man tilted his head. He looked at Xi Xue with sharp eyes. "You are selfish. You know when you turn my granddaughter into a half-vampire...she will get a lot of troubles."
"I know." Xi Xue nodded solemnly.
"Then why? Why do you still insist on turning her? Donât you know that what you did will harm her?" The old man clenched his fists together. He stared at Xi Xue with deep hatred in his eyes.
âI donât believe that this young man is ignorant. He already knows that others might shun my granddaughter if they know that she is a half-vampire.â
The old man took a deep breath.
âSo, why? Whyâ he still does this?â
"..." Xi Xue didnât answer for a few seconds. He lowered his head and kept his mouth shut until a small voice slipped out of his lips.
"Because...thatâs the only way I can be together with her for a long time without hurting her."
"Hm?" The old man raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean?"
