Chapter 24
Irene.
Thereâs no telling if Iâm allowed to skip, as Brenda and Julia were too scared to risk it. And so, they made me dress up and drag my alreadyâtired b*dy downstairs for dinner.
Noah was typing something furiously on his phone when I entered. As though sensing me, he placed his phone on the table and gave me his full attention.
Alek glanced up, his eyes meeting mine and then raking all over my b*dy.
His gaze stopped at every curve of my b*dy, sending heat and shivers down my spine.
Oh, my goddess. I couldnât even hold myself still under his gaze.
I heaved a silent sigh when Alek looked away and returned to his mobile.
Thankfully, the Grim Reaper wasnât here.
âAre you settling well in school?â Alek asked, halfway through dinner and I froze, unable to find the best words to reply.
Didnât he know everything that was happening in school? And in Eltonâs words, all of the trouble that I was causing.
I took a deep breath before replying, âItâs going okay.â
His eyes met mine briefly and then he looked back at his meal.
âHow much strength you show determines the amount of trouble that must always remember that you the Kingâs woman.â

But you
âNo one is allowed to touch you.â
Liv bristled at his words and I could barely stop myself from grinning like I had lost my mind.
His words were nothing like the calm and sweet way that Noah always used to reassure me. It was
direct and honest.
While he didnât have feelings or care about me like Noah, he was also unwilling to see me go through the trouble in school.
This was him permitting me to use his backing.
âThank you,â I managed to mumble and then glanced at Noah who had a slight smile hanging at the corner of his l*ps.
The table became silent until Alek dropped his cutlery gently and glanced at his watch.

Alek stood up, âIf you will excuse me, I have some important matters to handle.â
It was not like he needed my permission, but I nodded, using my eyes to follow him.

âWhat are you waiting for, Noah?â Alek turned back, tilting his head to look at Noah who was obliviously scarfing down food.
He did this every time and I couldnât help but giggle when I saw the startled look on his face.
âIâm to come along?â Noah asked. He blinked twice and cast a reluctant look at the food that was still on his plate.
âYou should have told me earlier, Iâd have started eating faster,â he grumbled and then stood up.
I watched them go and managed to shove some more spoonfuls into my mouth. I was still quite full from eating with Noah and stood up after a while.
My quarters were empty when I got back and for once, I regretted telling Brenda and Julia that they could leave.
It was too quiet. Too empty and lonely.
Back in the pack, I usually had to work till late into the midnight. I was more than used to being busy until it was time to sleep.
Eventually, I changed out of the dress into the shirt I had gotten when I went out with Noah for a change of dress and walked out of my quarters.
Noah had given me his own tour, but other than walking down for my meals and then going to the academy, I hadnât needed any other part of the palace.
Without caring where I was, I walked down the hallways, sometimes stopping to admire some large painting that told a story or some abstract one that made me wonder what the painter was thinking.
By the time I got to the ground floor, I was a little tired and stopped by the grand hall entrance, catching my breath before continuing.
âWhat was Noah and Alek doing?â As I made my way outside the palace building, I wondered if they were still busy or had finished whatever they had to work on.
The stars were out now, and they shone brightly against the moon.
âI canât wait for the full moon,â Liv stated in my head, and I shrugged. Full moons didnât excite me
anymore.
I was always too busy to get enough time to run until everyone was done. On those days, my b*dy would be aching and tired, but Iâd push myself because I knew that Liv needed it to be stronger and
grow.
The power from the moon was the most important thing to any wolf.

âWe would not have to think about chores here,â she pointed out, and I nodded, agreeing that something would indeed be different about this new moon.
If I was still here.
I still had some lingering fears from what happened with Elton earlier this evening. The way the shadows had gripped my legs. I had no doubt that they could have snapped my n*eck if he let them.
As I walked into the garden, my nostrils flared from the sweet floral scent that came with the garden. There was something more, something calming from one of the flowers.
âYou could never sit still, huh?â Eltonâs familiar voice rang out, and goosebumps covered my skin at the speed of light.
I looked around the garden, my sharp eyes taking in the whole place like it was daytime.
Yet, I couldnât find him anywhere.
âCurious troublemaker, yeah?â Elton continued; I could hear the smugness in his voice even without seeing him.
âAnd you are the Cowardly Prince Of Darkness, right?â I shot back, my anger climbing.
Elton chuckled. His voice was low and pleasant. Carried by the night wind, it came from right behind me.
as almost like it
Or did it?
I turned, my heart leaping in my chest as I saw him standing there, whisps of shadow moving around him.
âYou should learn to stay away from trouble, troublemaker.â
