Chapter 14
Ireneâs POV
The ride to the palace was quiet, and Sam hummed to some music from the car speakers. By the time he turned into the palace gate, I was half asleep and jerked awake when something hit my palm.
âHis Majesty asked me to give you this,â Sam explained as I looked at the key in my hands. The key that belonged to my power bind bracelet.
âTo do what?â I asked, my brows crinkling. If they wanted it unlocked, they didnât have to complicate things by handing me the key, right?
âThe obvious,â Sam said, sparing me one glance as he got down from the car.
I took a deep breath, my heart filled with intense longing for Liv.
Liv was my bestfriend. The best part of me, and to be honest, she was the logical part.
While I had grown up alone, Liv had been the one person that has been there with me. Holding my hand in every sense of it.
However, I also didnât want to get instant benefits.
I didnât really know who Sam worked for. The other time, he had picked me up, ye that I had seen the familiar blue eyes that belonged to Elton.
It was etched in my memory.
Or maybe he just worked with the three of them?
I was certain
There was no knowing, so I got out of the car and kept the key in my pants pocket. If they wanted me to really unlock it, doing so during dinner was not going to be too late.
When I got upstairs, Julia and Brenda shot up to welcome me, their faces brimming with smiles.
âMy lady,â Julia greeted, her feet bouncing on their heels. On the other hand, Brenda was a lot more composed, but I could see that she was also excited.
About what?
âThe two of you seem extra happy today?â I asked, confirming my guess when I saw the exchange between them.
-We heard about how Prince Noah saved and called you his woman today,â Julia sang.
Did they also attend the academy? I shook my head. Brenda was a little too old to attend the academy. Maybe Julia, then?

âHow did you hear about it so quickly?â
âWellâ¦â Julia scratched her head and then looked at Brenda.

âMy lady, news travels fast in the Empire. I heard someone made a video of it when it happened, and almost everyone in the palace now knows that we are working for one of the future princesses.â
Julia squealed one more time, and I shook my head.
So much for wanting Noah not to tell Alek.
Clearly, that was not important as they had more than enough information channels.
However, I didnât have the courage to tell them that I was nothing more than a breeder.
Because right now, I didnât even know what I was.
First, I was their breeder.
And then, Noahâs mate. Now that I knew he had someone who had already cancelled out, which made me quite uncertain about where I stood.
âShould we ask the kitchen to send lunch to your dining room?â Brenda asked as I walked into the closet, eager to pull these clothes off for one of the silk pyjamas they had gotten me.â
âIâll skip lunch and get a nap. Donât wake me unless itâs urgent.â
Brenda nodded, bowed once and then excused herself.
I stripped out my clothes in record time and pulled the pyjamas on.
When I wake up, Iâll deal with my looming troubles. For now, I needed my sleep.
I had just woken up when I heard a knock on my door.
âMy lady?â Brendaâs voice called out, and I stood up from the bed.
âCome in,â my words donât land before she pushes the door open.
âSince you had dinner and breakfast with the Princes, I think itâs best that you start getting readyâ¦â
One glance at the bedside clock and I dashed into the shower.
As much as I appreciated Julia and Brenda, I was too old to get used to the idea of someone helping me have my bath.
Although it had cost me about twenty minutes to convince them that I was fine on my own. yesterday, it was worth it as Brenda didnât follow me into the bathroom.

From my calculations, I had less than ten minutes, so I did very little, washing up at the speed of light.
When I come out, Julia is already in my room with a light pink dress laid on the bed.
And a beaming smile.
I couldnât blame them. They had some fantasy about Noah and me going on in their head.
Unfortunately, they couldnât be any wrong. And I would be the one to burst their bubble.
âPlease get me a black dress instead, I donât feel like having colours on.â
Juliaâs face fell, but she turned around and left without arguing.
âMy lady, Iâll style your hair while she finds a black dress,â Brenda offered, and I sat down by the dresser.
Brenda worked swiftly, and soon, my hair was styled in a neat bun and some tendrils in front.
I took a deep breath, my eyes meeting with Juliaâs eyes through the mirror. She forced a smile and I closed the gap between us.
âBlack suits my skin. The most important thing is that I look pretty, right?â I had no clue what suited my skin; hell, the last thing that would have crossed my mind two weeks ago was the colour of some dress.
I would have probably not given two fucks, even if it was pink.
Julia nodded, and her face lit up.
With her feeling better, the room felt a lot less gloomy, and I wore my dress very quickly.
âWe are just in time!â Brenda announced with a hand patting her chest.
âI was asked to inform my lady that itâs time for dinner.â
I took a deep breath, anxiety pooling in my stomach at the mere thought of the dinner..
Tonight was going to determine my fate.
