Chapter 0220 +25 BONUS Drake was quiet for a moment, his eyes darting back and forth across the tabletop in an expression that I had come to know well as him thinking deeply. After several long moments, a sly grin spread across his face. âYou know... I might be able to help with that.â
âHow?â Viona and I asked almost in unison.
Drake leaned in conspiratorially. âWell, not to brag, but Iâm pretty good at attracting almost anyone I want.â He shot me a loaded glance, causing my face to redden, before he leaned back and shrugged.â That includes men. What if I were to, say... catfish Jake?â
Vionaâs eyes lit up. âThatâs fucking genius,â she whispered.
I, however, was more hesitant. I had already learned my lesson about scheming with the whole Zoe debacle. To do the same with my friend... I wasnât so sure about that. âI donât know,â I muttered. âIsnât that kind of risky?â
âMaybe,â Drake conceded. âBut if it would protect your friend from marrying someone whoâs potentially using her, isnât it worth the risk?â
had to admit, he had a point. Amber might be pissed at us, but she would understand why we did what we did. 1 Finally, with a sigh, I threw my hands up in exasperation. âFine,â I conceded. âSo how would this work?â
Drake pulled out his phone. âFirst, Iâll create a fake profile. Give me a minute.â
Viona and I watched as Drakeâs fingers flew over his phone screen. After a few minutes, he turned the phone to show us. âMeet âTylerâ, 28, fitness enthusiast and dog lover.â
The profile showed a handsome Al generated man with sandy blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. âWow, thatâs so realistic,â
Viona breathed. âIâd swipe right.â
Drake grinned. âThatâs the idea. Now, letâs see if we can find Jake...â
It took a few minutes of searching, but eventually, Drake located Jakeâs profile. My stomach twisted as I saw the images of Jake with Amber carefully carefully cropped out.
âThat bastard,â Viona hissed. âWe should send her the screenshots.â
Drake shook his head. âNo. Letâs see if we can get him to meet up first. If we just send her the screenshots of his Tinder profile, he might be able to claim itâs not actually him.â
âIf we can get him to meet up, we can photograph him and show it to Amber,â I said.
Drake nodded. Without hesitation, he sent a message. When he was finished, he showed us the screen. The message read:
âHey there, handsome. Love your smile. Want to grab a coffee sometime?â
âAnd now we wait,â Drake said, setting his phone down.
We tried to make small talk while we waited, but the anticipation was palpable. After what felt like an eternity but was probably only about ten minutes, Drakeâs phone buzzed.
We all leaned in as Drake opened the message. Jake had responded: âHey, Tyler! Thanks for the 1/2 +25 BONUS Chapter 0220 compliment. Coffee sounds great. When were you thinking?â
âHoly shit,â Viona whispered. âHe actually responded.â
Drake quickly typed out a reply, suggesting a cafe and time for the next day. Jakeâs response came almost immediately, agreeing to the meeting. And with a trap set up, it was only a matter of time.
We finished up our meal, feeling both nervous and sad for our friend. With a promise to meet outside the coffee chop, we gathered our things and Viona headed out to the car. I hung behind for a moment to talk to Drake.
âDrake,â I said, pulling him aside. âHave you found any proof about Noah and Zoe yet?â
Drakeâs face fell slightly. âIâm sorry, Hannah. Iâve been watching them like a hawk, but... nothing. No late- night visits, no suspicious behavior. Maybe theyâre not cheating after all.â
I felt a strange mix of relief and disappointment swirl around in my chest. âBut... he has to be. Iâm sure of it.â
Drake placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. âLook, Iâll stay for one more week to try and find evidence. But thatâs it, okay? If we donât find anything by then, you might have to consider the possibility that Noahâs telling the truth.â
I nodded, feeling numb. As Drake walked away, my mind wandered back to the picture in Noahâs offering bundleâthe one I was so sure he had put there himself. But if he wasnât cheating with Zoe...
A small, nagging voice in the back of my head whispered a thought I had been trying to ignore: that maybe Noah was telling the truth after all.
And if that was the case, then who put that picture there? And why? 2
