Chapter Eight - Feeling Better?

Lincoln's P.O.V -

I grinned as I entered the pack house. The date was great, we just talked about random things like movies, music, my family and our friends.

I noticed Wyatt, Cora and Cole waiting for me. "Do you guys want to hear about my date?" I felt giddy as I thought about it.

"No." Wyatt replied coldly. "At least not right now."

My mood dampened. "Oh right you wanted to talk to me about something. What's up?"

"It's about Milo." Cora started.

I crossed my arms raising a brow. "What about him?" I was ready to defend anything they said against him.

"He's starting to figure everything out." Cora explained.

I felt my stomach churn slightly. "Are you sure?"

"He asked me about mates." Cole remained calm as he laid on the couch.

"Wait, what?" They all just nodded. "When?"

"Right before you're date when you was getting ready." Wyatt informed.

"He probably didn't mean it that way." I shrugged. "It probably didn't help that some wolf approached him in the woods."

"Oh that was me." Cora confessed.

My eyes widened. "What the hell?"

"I was on a run and I bumped into him." She brushed it off.

I pinched the bridge of my nose. "Fine whatever."

***

"Hey mum." I smiled walking into the kitchen. She smiled before continuing to make pancakes.

"Couldn't find a shirt?" My dad spoke from the table.

"Good morning to you too." I sat down next to him.

"Hello." He grumbled. "Put on a shirt." My dad has never been a morning person.

"There's literally no one else here." I huffed holding my head up with my hand.

"You're mother's here." He gestured to my mum who was humming along to the music not even listening to the conversation.

"Yeah she really look like she cares." I smirked.

Dad rolls his eyes sipping from his glass of orange juice. Wyatt slugs down the stairs entering the room only wearing a pair of shorts.

"Oh for god's sake." My dad threw a hand in the air.

My mother giggled from where she was dishing up breakfast.

"Oh you find this funny?" He arched a brow suddenly a look of mischief spread over his face.

She walked over with two plates placing one down in front of my dad and kept hold of the other.

"Hilarious." She gave a small smile.

They exchanged a look one I was somewhat familiar with. "We should go." I told Wyatt standing up. Disgust washing over me knowing what they were going to do as soon as we left for school.

We rushed to get ready before leaving the house and heading to school. Everyone stared at us as we walked into school. It's one of the things I hate most.

We had almost reached the doorway of the school. When a pack member called for help. 'Hunters! At the east border, near the woods.'

My eyes widened as did Wyatt's we ran in the opposite direction to the school. I shifted as soon as we reached the woods and was sure that no humans would see me.

I spotted a group of men carrying shot guns and did not hesitate to jump on the nearest one tearing at his throat. Wyatt managed to kill two more hunters as I killed three more. Once they were all dead we both turned to the pack member laying on the floor.

I shifted back kneeling down next to the pack warrior, I listened carefully for a heartbeat but sighed when I couldn't hear one.

"Shit." Wyatt tugged at his hair.

"Wyatt call over a few pack warriors to help carry him back, I'm going to go tell Henry's family what happened." I stood up rubbing my eyes before shifting and running in the direction of Henry's home.

I reached it after about ten minutes I shifted knocking on the door. Henry's mate, Sophie, yanked open the door with tears streaming down her face. This was expected mates can feel when their mate is in pain, and when they die.

She shook her head at the sight of me, the tears increased to sobs. It was fairly obvious why I was here.

"I'm so sorry for your loss." I told her pulling her into a hug.

We remained like that for a few minutes as she cried.

"Mummy?" A small voice spoke from the door way.

Her son had poked his head past the door frame and watched his mother cry with wide eyes. "What's wrong?" The three year old's voice trembled obviously becoming upset at the sight of his mother in this state.

Sophie quietened down slightly, wiping her eyes and walking on wobbly legs to her son. She picked him up, resting the boy on her hip.

"Sad?" He whimpered placing his hand on her wet cheek.

She just nodded bursting out in tears again. I stayed for about an hour waiting for Sophie's sister to arrive to comfort her.

"Goodbye Sophie, once again I'm so sorry." I told her.

She forced a smile. "Thank you." She then continued to rock her son, Felix, back and forth as he drifted to sleep.

"You alright?" My dad asked walking into my room.

I remained silent for a few moments. "I don't know."

"I know it's sad but things like this happen." He sat on the edge of my bed.

"Yeah but that doesn't make this any easier." I blinked quickly. "I'm responsible for this pack's safety, so when someone dies it's my fault."

"I was like that when I first became alpha." He admitted a sad smile spreading across his face.

"Does it get any easier?" I looked at him with pleading eyes.

He shook his head. "No, but you learn to cope with it. I always found that your mother knew how to make me feel better."

"Well I can't really confide in my mate at the moment." I said.

"You'll just have to find something else in the meantime." He ruffled my hair.

"Thanks dad." I told him before he walked out.

I sat there staring at the wall deep in thought for a several minutes until there was a few knocks on the door.

"Come in." I called.

The door swung open and Milo stepped in slowly, a look of concern on his face.

I tossed the duvet off my body and stood up quickly. "Hi." I spoke surprised.

"Hey." He spoke warmly. "Wyatt said you were upset and that I needed to get here straight away." I looked over at the clock on the wall only just noticing school had ended a couple hours ago.

"That explains the pajamas." I spoke amused.

He chuckled slightly. "Yeah I was having a nap, I was tired after basketball."

I nodded slowly sitting back down on the bed.

"So what's wrong?" He nodded towards my face which was still slightly red and blotchy.

I swallowed. "Someone I know died."

"Were you close?" He frowned taking a few steps forward.

"Kind of." I shrugged laying back down. My head flashed with pictures of his dead body, I felt tears rolling down my cheeks.

"Oh uh." His eyes widened as he looked around almost hoping there was someone else in the room. "Do you want me to get Wyatt?"

I shook my head before trying to rub the tears out of my eyes.

He walked over taking a seat on the edge of my bed rubbing my shoulder gently. My wolf purred in my head at the contact from our mate. If it was any other situation I probably would have got turned on.

"Can you lay with me?" I asked.

He smiled slightly lifting the duvet and sliding beneath it. I moved so that my head rested on his chest. I let the tears soak his shirt as he played with my hair.

I calmed down after a few minutes and began to enjoy the position I was in with my mate. I looked up at him with a weak smile.

"Feeling better?" He asked still worried.

"Yeah." I reassured him. "Thank you."

"Oh I didn't mind." He said.

"Really?" I raised a brow. "You didn't seem to know what to do."

"Oh yeah I'm awful at helping people when they cry, ask Lucy." He chuckled lightly.

I rolled my eyes jokingly. "I can tell."

We laid in a comfortable silence for another few minutes.

"I can now say I successfully got you into bed." I smirked.

"Oh you can do that whenever you want." He winked.

I was going to respond when his phone began to ring. "Oh it's my mum." He moved me off him and stood up. "Hey mamma." He greeted once he answered the phone.

"Oh i'm at a friends house." He spoke with her. "Yeah I'll be home for dinner. Oh you're not going to be there? That's fine I'll just order something. Ciao, ti amo." He hung up the phone.

"You can have dinner here if you want." I offered.

"Are you sure?" He asked. "You're parents won't mind?"

"My parents love having guests for dinner." I spoke honestly.

"Uh yeah, I'll have dinner with you." He nodded.

"Great." I smiled.

'Milo is joining us for dinner, that's okay right?.' I quickly mindlinked my mum.

'That's fine sweetie.' She replied shortly.

"Don't you have to tell them?" He asked confused.

"Oh right yeah." I quickly retrieved my phone pretending to send a text to my mum. "She said it's fine." I put the phone away.

He watched me suspiciously. "That was fast."

"Yeah my mum replies pretty quickly." I looked down.

"You're an awful liar." He huffed flopping onto the bed.

"I'm not-" He cut me off.

"Yes you are." He glared. "You always lie about random things, like you're dad's job."

"I-uh." I couldn't think of anything to say.

"Exactly." He mumbled. "Don't worry you don't have to tell me, it's not like we're good friends."

"You don't think we're friends?" I frowned a pain shooting through my chest.

"No we are friends, we're just not close enough to tell each other all our secrets so it's fine." He explained.

"You keep secrets from me?" I asked confused.

"Yeah, but so do you." He said.

I thought for a moment. "I want us to become close though." I spoke quietly.

"That will come with time then." He smiled. "You can't just jump into a relationship."

"A relationship?" I smiled.

"Oh shut up." He playfully tackled me.

I rolled us over so I was hovering above him, our faces were only a few inches apart. He licked his lips while maintaining eye contact with me. I leaned in to kiss him but the door burst open.

"Ew!" My sister squealed.

Milo shoved me off springing out off the bed. He ran his hand through his hair and I could hear his heartbeat speeding up.

"Warn me next time." She glared.

"You barged in without knocking you idiot." I growled at her.

I could feel Milo still panicking, I know he isn't out but I didn't expect him to be this scared about  people knowing.

"Oh right." She spoke slowly.

"You're Lincoln's sister right?" Milo spoke up.

"Yeah I'm Victoria." She winked at him even though she knows Milo is my mate.

"I'm Milo." He spoke awkwardly.

"I know." She bit her lip. "We met at the mall, remember?" Taking a step towards him.

He laughed slightly but I could tell it was because he was embarrassed. "Yeah, I remember."

"Vic get out." I told her. "You're being fucking annoying." My wolf was getting angry at her flirting with my mate.

"You shouldn't talk to your sister like that." He told me.

I nodded. "Vic why did you come here?"

"Dinner is ready." She said.

"See three words that's all you had to say, you didn't need to come up here and start flirting with my boyfriend!" I huffed.

"Boyfriend?" He smiled mocking me from a few minutes ago.

I laughed grinning at him. "Let's just go to dinner before mum gets mad that the food is cold."

We all walked down the stairs until we got to the dinning room where my parents, Wyatt and his parents were sat.

"Finally, how long does it take you kids to walk down some stairs." My dad complained.

"Sorry, Vic and I got in a little argument." I grumbled sitting to the left of my dad who was in his usual place at the head of the table, I smiled at my mum who was sat opposite me. Milo sat beside me and Vic sat opposite him.

"Hey." Wyatt smiled at Milo from beside him. "Nice pajamas."

His eyes widened as he realized what he was wearing. "Well you called me here in such a rush that I didn't have time to change.

"I don't believe we've met. I'm Cameron, Wyatt's dad and this is my wife Lisa." Cameron greeted my mate.

"I'm Milo, it's nice to meet you sir." He spoke politely.

"You remember us right." My dad asked him. "We're Lincolns parents, I'm Andrew and my wife's name is Bella."

"Yeah I remember." He told them. "You told me to go on a date with Lincoln."

I frowned while my dad laughed. "Yeah that's right." He chuckled. "You seemed terrified talking to us."

My dad told Milo to go on a date with me. Does that mean he didn't even want to go out with me? My wolf tried to claw its way out of my head, he fought so hard that I struggled to think rationally.

"Wait." I stopped him from talking, the whole table went silent waiting for me to continue. "You went on a date with me because my dad told you to?" I asked Milo annoyed.

"What?" He whispered looking between the adults on the table obviously uncomfortable. "No, of course not."

"I can't believe this." I growled. "The whole date was a lie."

"No it wasn't." Milo spoke desperately. "Can we just talk about this later?"

"No!" I exclaimed. "I want to talk about this now."

"Son, I think you're over-exaggerating a little bit." My dad failed in his attempt to calm me down.

"You had no right to interfere with my relationship with my mate!" I growled my eyes flashing as my wolf took control.

"Lincoln." Wyatt looked at me with wide eyes before looking towards Milo.

He watched me with his arms crossed and a raised brow, there was no surprise in his face. "I think it's about time we talked."
