Chapter Seven - The Date
Milo's P.O.V -
I've been walking in the woods for about three hours, it had now begun to rain.
"Son lets split up, maybe we'll actually catch something that way." He told me before turning to the right and walking.
I turned in the opposite direction and began trudging through the now wet mud which was staining my shoes.
After a while I sat against a tree not caring that it was staining my jeans. The bushes rustled but I didn't look up assuming it was due to wind. From the corner of my eye I spotted a black shape nearing closer. My head snapped up to see a wolf stood a few feet away. My body froze and my breath got stuck in my throat.
I always forget what people are supposed to do in this situation. Am I supposed to run or stay still? I quickly glanced at the gun on the floor before turning back to the wolf. I can't do that. Shooting it will be the last resort.
When the wolf took another step towards me and rubbed it's nose on my arm, I jumped up startling the wolf who growled slightly.
"Shit." I mumbled. I stayed still once again. "Sorry."
I was now beginning to panic as my breaths got shallower. The black wolf tilted it's head and took a few steps backwards before turning and running away. I sighed in relief before walking away to find my dad.

"How many marks is question four for?" Lucy asked while still bobbing her head to the music she was blasting from her phone.
"Six." I mumbled not looking up from the homework.
"Ok thanks." She put her head down as she focused.
Lucy may be able to work with music playing but I find it impossible to concentrate.
"Do you think there's something weird about them?" I asked.
They were coming over soon, Lucy had invited them.
"Who?" She mumbled biting the end of her pen.
"Lincoln and Wyatt." I told her.
"Yeah definitely." She nodded. "What do you think it is?"
"Maybe they're in a gang." I shrugged.
"They're not violent enough." She pointed out. "Maybe it's a cult."
"They're not weird enough." I replied. "Although that would explain why they're so nice."
We thought for a moment. "Maybe they're vampires." I joked.
"Or werewolves." She laughed.
The smile fell off my face. "Hold on."
"Seriously?" She raised a brow looking at me.
"Remember when you used to read those werewolf stories." She just nodded. "Didn't they have a mate?"
"Yeah, they were like their soul mates or something like that." She turned to look at me.
"Well at the party Lincoln's friend was talking about his mate." I explained.
"Oh really?" Her eyebrows furrowed. "You sure he wasn't talking about a friend."
"No, the way he said it was weird." I muttered.
"Didn't you say Lincoln's mum was acting weird?" She asked me.
"Yeah she was freaking out because I was human." I frowned.
"What?" She asked confused. "But they're human?"
"Unless they're not." We exchanged a look saying we would look into it before turning back to our homework.
"Uh Lucy." I stated tapping my pen.
"Yeah." She continued doing the work.
"I'm thinking of asking Lincoln on a date." I looked up at her as she spun in her chair with a slack jaw.
"No way!" She exclaimed. "You're seriously going to ask him out?"
"Be quiet your mum might here you." I hissed at her getting up to close the door.
"Oh she knows you're gay." Lucy shrugged.
"What? Since when?" My eyes widened.
"Don't change the subject." She crossed her arms.
"Lucy I'm being serious our mum's are friends, they talk a lot." I felt my heart rate increasing. I felt more scared than when I was with that wolf on Saturday.
"She said she wouldn't say anything." Lucy said.
"Why would you tell her in the first place!" I began to raise my voice as I got pissed off.
"What's happening?" Both our heads snapped over to where Lincoln and Wyatt were stood in the doorway.
I ran my hand through my hair. "Nothing."
"Were you shouting at her?" Wyatt asked anger flashing in his eyes.
"Wyatt." He immediately looked over to Lucy. "Can you drop it?"
Lincoln walked into the room and sat on the bed next to me looking down at the homework. "You've made a few errors." He spoke slowly as he picked up the paper.
"I know." I told him. "I can't do science."
"Or maths or English." Lucy added.
I glared at her. "Shut up."
I struggled at school and she knows that bothers me. I'm close to being kicked off the basketball team for it.
Wyatt narrowed his eyes at me. "Don't talk to her like that."
"I think she can speak for herself." I gritted out before turning back to the question. I tried to turn my attention back to the question but couldn't focus with Wyatt and Lucy talking.
I shoved the sheet into my backpack before throwing it onto the floor.
"You only did two questions." Lincoln frowned.
"It's fine, I might do it later." I shrugged.
"You know homework goes towards your grade right?" He asked me.
"Yeah I know." I sighed.
"I can help you if you want?" He offered.
Did I really want him to find out how much of an idiot I am?
"Uh maybe." I replied.
Lucy stood up as her and Wyatt walked towards the door. "We'll be back in a few minutes."
"Okay." I mumbled.
Lincoln picked up the bag taking out the homework. "Oh we did this last week at school."
"So you know how to do it?" I asked.
He nodded picking up a pen. "So on this one..."
He began to explain the question and how I should answer it. However, I just admired him as he focused on the work.
"Are you even listening?" He asked me.
"Uh yeah." I lied.
"Then what did I just say?" He smiled slightly.
"Okay I wasn't listening." I admitted, he laughed slightly. "Uh, can I ask you something?"
His face turned serious. "Of course, anything."
Wow, I'm nervous. This is stupid he's way out of my league.
"I was wondering if, uh, you'd want to go on a date?" I spoke quickly. "With me."
His eyes widened. See I knew this was a bad idea. "Really?"
"Uh." My voice got stuck in my throat. "Y-yeah?"
"Of course!" A grin spread across his face. "I'd love to, I was planning on asking you the same thing."
I felt the weight getting lifted of my chest. "Oh, thank god."
"I have no idea what we should do, there's so many options." He began to rattle of restaurants that we could go to. They were either far away or really expensive.
"Don't worry about it, I'll pick you up tomorrow at six." I offered.
Lincoln stared at me surprised. "But I've been planning this."
"You're overthinking it." I smiled.
"It's my first date." He spoke nervously. "I mean, our first date."
I stared at him for a moment. "This is your first date?"
"No." He chuckled. "Maybe."
"How is that possible?" I spoke amazed.
He shifted uncomfortably on the bed. "I've just never liked someone enough to ask them out."
"I mean technically you still haven't asked me out." I smirked.
"That's just because you beat me to it." He told me. "Are you sure you want to arrange the date?"
"Yeah of course, I like to go with the rule of who ever asks the other on a date has to pick it and pay for it." I explained.
"So you're paying too?" Lincoln raise a brow. "Wow you're really spoiling me."
"Shut up." I looked at him with bright eyes. "Don't expect anything extravagant, it's going to be a really simple date."
"I'm looking forward to it." He spoke sincerely.
***
"That's what you're wearing?" Lucy asked her face scrunched up. There was still a slight tension between us but she had decided to come and help me get ready for my date with Lincoln, and by that she means criticizing everything I do.
"Yeah." I glanced into the mirror with a shrug. "This is what I usually wear on dates."
"No, this is what you usually wear on a daily basis." She crossed her arms.
I look at my clothes, I had on jeans and a t-shirt. "These are my nice jeans."
"And by that you mean they're your only pair of jeans which don't have a stain or rip in them." She pointed towards a pair of my jeans which have grass stains on the knee.
"Exactly." I nodded.
"And the top." She started.
"This is fine." I looked at it. "I ironed it."
"You're such a slob." She rolled her eyes.
She stood up walking over to my wardrobe. "Put this on." She pulled out a burgundy jumper.
"Fine." I tugged of my t-shirt tossing it on the ground before tugging on the jumper. "Happy now?"
"Not quite yet." She stared at me. "Fix your hair."
"No, my hair is fine." I told her as she handed me my phone and wallet so I wouldn't forget them.
"Now go or you'll be late. Have fun." She flopped onto my bed while stroking Buddy.
I guess she's going to wait here until I get back. I checked the time realizing I'm going to be late, I rushed down the stairs.
"Where are you going?" My mum called from the kitchen.
"Uh." I entered the kitchen hesitantly. "Just to see Oliver."
"In your nice jeans and a jumper." She looked me up and down. "You're going on a date."
"No." I spoke in a quiet voice.
"Uh huh, have fun." She watched amused as I rushed out the house.
I climbed into my mum's car beginning the drive to Lincoln's home. I climbed out the car when I reached his house before knocking on the door.
Wyatt stood in the door way a small smile on his face. "Lincoln! Milo's here!" He shouted up the stairs.
"I'll be down in a minute!" He called back.
"You might as well come in, Lincoln will take ages to get ready." Wyatt opened the door wider to let me in.
"Thanks." I said walking in.
Lincoln's friends from the party were sat on the couch together watching a movie.
"Hi." The girl waved. "I'm Cora and this is Cole."
"Yeah we met, at that party." I smiled over at them.
"Cole would like to say something." She elbowed him in the side.
"I'm sorry for punching you." He rolled his eyes.
"Oh you don't need to apologize." I told him. "I get punched all the time, I tend to have that effect on people."
"See, I didn't need to say anything." Cole grumbled.
Cora sighed. "Well it's still good that you apologized."
"Yeah I appreciated it." I reassured him, a thought popped into my head. "Cole is this your mate?"
"Yeah, she's great." He smiled at Cora.
They suddenly turned to me confused. "You know?"
I smirked slightly. "Know what?"
"Nothing!" Wyatt exclaimed panicked. "He knows nothing."
"Is there something I should know?" I narrowed my eyes.
"Nope." He answered quickly. "Look Lincoln's here."
I turn to see Lincoln dressed in a pristine black suit. A suit.
"You're too dressed up." I told him.
"Really?" He frowned. "What should I wear?"
"I'll help." I reassured him as we walked up the stairs.
He shows me to his room. This was probably the largest bedroom I've ever seen, actually it seemed more like an apartment. There was a living room area to the left and his bed was straight ahead. A door was open showing an en suite bathroom. The only thing this place was missing was a kitchen.
He opened a door revealing a walk in wardrobe. "Pick whatever."
"Uh." I picked up a pair of black jeans. "Just put these on, lose the jacket and tie, and un-tuck the shirt."
"Alright." He nodded with a smile.
I left the room letting him get changed. He came out a few minutes later a small smile on his face. "Better?"
"Much better." I nodded.
"So what are we doing?" He asked intrigued.
"Nothing special." I shrugged. "Since you've never been on a date I thought I'd give you the basics."
"Dinner and a movie?" Lincoln asked as we left his room.
"That was my first thought but there wasn't any good movies on." I explained. "So we're doing mini golf."
"Sounds fun." He grinned.
We made our way downstairs to see Cora, Cole and Wyatt having what looks like a serious conversation.
"Hey guys, we're going to leave." Lincoln told them.
"Can we talk to you for a second?" Wyatt asked before glancing at me. "Alone."
Lincoln frowned. "Can it wait?"
"Not really." He replied.
"I've booked a table for dinner as well, we wont have time to finish mini golf if we don't leave now." I insisted.
Lincoln nodded. "Wyatt I'll talk to you later."
He turned beginning to walk to the door. Wyatt looked at me with a glare. If he told Lincoln then he would be all suspicious and I wouldn't be able to investigate any further.
I quickly followed after Lincoln. I drove us to the mini golf place, I quickly paid and soon we were set up for a game.
"I'd like to warn you that I'm incredible at this." I smiled.
"Well of course you'd think that, you've never seen me play." He retorted.
I watched as Lincoln went first, it took him two shots to get the ball in the hole. It only took me one, not that I'm bragging.
"Lucky shot." He muttered making me laugh.
We continued for another few holes, and I hate to admit that Lincoln is winning by two shots. He had a smug look on his face completely aware that he was winning.
We reached the final hole, it was a windmill. You had to hit the ball through the tunnel at the base while avoiding the spinning blades.
I went first, it took one shot to get through the windmill and another two shots to put it in the hole. I tallied up my score before picking up my ball.
"Your turn." I told him taking a step back.
Lincoln's cockily got ready to play. He hit the ball which slammed straight into the blade.
"Shit." He cursed. He did this five more times.
"You have to time it." I explained.
"Shut up." Lincoln grumbled finally getting it through on the sixth shot. He then failed to put it.
"If you get mad you're more likely to miss." I held in my laugh.
"I know that." He growled. Growled. Like a wolf.
"Alright." I smiled reaching forward placing a hand on his shoulder. "Take a few deep breaths."
He paused for a moment, he took another shot finally getting it in.
"How many was that?" He mumbled.
"Eleven." I smirked.
"So that means..." He trailed off.
"I won." I smiled.
"It's a stupid game anyway." He muttered as we handed in the clubs and balls before walking to the car.
"I only won because I come here all the time." I shrugged.
"Dates?" I sensed some jealous in his tone.
"No me and Lucy always argue over who's better." I corrected. "We have competitions."
"Who won last time?" He asked as we got into the car.
"Well technically Lucy." I started the car. "She was upset already so I didn't want to add to it by her losing. Lucy is a really bad loser."
I drove to the restaurant. It's where a lot of people go for dates. It was a small, cosy place which stood on stilts above a lake.
"I've never been here before." Lincoln told me as I parked the car.
"It's one of the most popular place for dates." I shrugged.
"Still." He insisted. "It looks nice."
We walk into the restaurant and I immediately freeze. "Shit." I cursed.
"What's wrong?" He asked his eyes flashing with concern.
My eyes are fixed on the table which my mother was sat at with Mark. "My mum."
"Uh." He looked between me and the table awkwardly. "We can go."
"No!" I exclaimed. I didn't want this date to end. "It's fine they're having dessert so they'll be gone soon."
I walk up to Hostess telling her my name, she guides us to a table fortunately on the opposite side of the restaurant to my mother.
"Are you sure?" Lincoln asked as we sat down.
"Yeah." I forced a smile attempting to ignore my heart slamming against my ribs.
"So I guess you haven't came out to your family yet." He states the obvious.
"With a catholic mother and homophobic father it's a bit difficult." I grumble.
"Are you sure he's homophobic?" Lincoln asked cautiously.
"Definitely." I frowned. "My father and I don't get along anyway."
Lincoln sensed my discomfort and dropped the subject. "So, Wyatt said you're on the basketball team?"
"Yeah, I'm not that good though." I shrugged.
"Oh really." Lincoln picked up the menu skimming it.
"I mean I'm not that bad, I'm average." I added reading the menu.
"I swear you're schools basketball team always wins the league." Lincoln pointed out. "So you must be pretty good to make the team in the first place."
"I guess." I responded as the waitress walked over.
She quickly took our order before walking away.
"How was your weekend?" I asked.
"It was okay. Wyatt, Cora and I just watched some movies and played some games." Lincoln explained briefly. "After I met you on Saturday I mean."
"Sounds fun." I smiled.
"What about you?" He questioned.
"My dad kept making me go hunting with him." I rolled my eyes. "I almost got attacked by a wolf at one point."
His faced turned serious, his eyes had turned black. Interesting. "What?" His voice was rough.
"Me and my dad split up because he was getting annoyed that we hadn't seen anything. I took a break and sat down, after a while this wolf came over." I explained. "I wasn't sure if I was supposed to run or not so I decided to stay still but he head-butted me, I jumped up and he got scared and growled at me before running off."
"What did it look like?" Lincoln asked me with urgency.
"Uh big, black with a white tip on it's tail." I thanked the waitress as she placed down our drinks.
"You're food will be here in a moment." She smiled before leaving.
"What about it's eyes?" He continued.
"I don't know, yellow?" I shrugged. "Why?"
"Wolves with red eyes are feral, dangerous." He said. "If you see them you run away."
"Okay." I told him.
"Promise me." He ordered.
I furrowed my brows, I'm going to go home and look this up.
"I promise."
