Chapter Fifty Six - Test

Milo's P.O.V -

"Are you sure?" Lincoln watched me with doubt in his eyes. "What if you need something?"

"Then I'll get it myself." I coughed as I spoke to him, which didn't help to convince him. "And Cora and Cole are here with me too."

It was Monday which meant we were supposed to be in school but I was still ill so I wasn't going today. Lincoln wanted to stay at home to take care of me but I insisted that he went to school, I made up some rubbish about how I needed him to get my classwork and that I didn't trust Wyatt not to forget.

He eventually agreed as long as I answered his phone calls all day. I had accepted and Lincoln got ready for school but now he was having doubts.

"But Cole won't help." Lincoln crossed his arms. "And Cora's doing paperwork so she'll be busy today."

"I'm feeling better today." I spoke honestly. "I'm probably just going to grab some food and then watch some movies in bed."

Lincoln reached forward and placed his hand on forehead. "You've still got a fever."

"Yep." I nodded slowly. "And a cough, and a sore throat, and a headache, and I threw up an hour ago."

"You're doing a great job at convincing me to leave." Lincoln deadpanned.

"We're fully mated so you'll be able to tell if I need you." I pointed out.

"All it does is let me feel that you're ill." Lincoln sighed. "And that'll be the same whether I'm here or not."

"Exactly I'll be sick either way." I told him. "So you might as well go to school, I'll still be ill when you get back so you can take care of me then."

"Fine." He mumbled picking up his rucksack. "Make sure you answer my calls and texts."

"I will." I told him.

We said our goodbyes and he soon left with Wyatt leaving me in the living room.

"Finally." I sighed in relief as I collapsed onto the couch.

"Were you pretending to feel better that whole time?" Cole asked from the armchair where he was reading the book I had gotten him for secret Santa.

"I feel better than I did yesterday." I mumbled. "But not as well as I was just pretending to feel then."

"Why lie?" Cole asked closing the book.

"Because he wouldn't have gone to school otherwise." I explained.

"I'd rather have my mate with me." Cole shrugged.

"So would I." I agreed. "But Lincoln needs some time away from me, so he can talk with Wyatt and his friends. He shouldn't have to be worried about me all the time."

"Is that why he goes to therapy?" Cole asked me making my eyes widen.

"What?" I spoke confused.

Lincoln had told me that he hadn't told anyone yet so how did Cole know? I knew Wyatt knew Lincoln was getting help but Lincoln hadn't explained it to him, Lincoln had just explained to Wyatt that he would listen to our requests and do something about it. Wyatt had stared at him confused and asked more questions but Lincoln didn't answer him.

"He hasn't told you?" Cole frowned. "I thought he would have, well forget I said anything then."

"How do you know?" I ran a hand through my hair.

"Oh so you do know?" Cole sat up straighter in the chair. "I saw him at the hospital last week going to the psychiatric department."

My face scrunched up. "Why were you in the hospital?"

"Cora and I had an ultrasound." He explained.

"Did Cora see him too?" I asked him.

He nodded. "She's the one who pointed him out to me."

"You should tell him you saw him." I suggested.

He shrugged. "Maybe."

At that moment somebody knocked on the door, both Cole and I turned to look at the door before looking at each other expectantly.

"Well go answer it." Cole told me in slight annoyance.

"I'm the sick one and this is your house, so you answer it." I argued.

Cole rolled his eyes. "Why should I? They're not here for me."

"How could you possibly know that?" I glared at him.

"Because nobody ever visits me, I don't have any friends apart from Cora." He crossed his arms.

I frowned. Well that was sad, I knew Cole didn't have any friends but I thought it was because he didn't want any.

"Are we not friends?" I looked down.

"Don't get sappy on me." Cole scoffed. "Nobody in this pack wants to be friends with the rogue, you'd be wise to choose their side. If you start being friends with me they won't like you either."

"I don't care what the pack thinks, I'm not a werewolf and I haven't even met them yet." I told him.

Cole stayed silent and gritted his teeth. I wanted to say something but I didn't know what. As we sat in silence the person knocked on the door again.

"Answer the door." Cole nodded towards it. "It's Lucy."

I stood up slowly so that my head wouldn't spin. "How do you know?"

"Because you and Lucy are the only idiots who stand outside for this long knocking on a door that isn't even locked." Cole stated.

My jaw became slack. "The door isn't locked?"

"It never is." Cole told me. "It's a house for the entire pack so it's never locked and we have patrol around our territory for safety so it doesn't need to be."

The amount of time I've spent waiting outside in the cold while no one in the house could hear me knocking. I didn't reply to him and instead walked over and opened the door.

Lucy stepped in with an annoyed look. "I'm pissed, you got me ill."

I squinted my eyes as the sunlight from outside reached me causing my head to pound. "You don't look ill." I frowned at her.

"I've been throwing up all morning thanks to you." She shoved me lightly but with my weak state I stumbled back and almost fell. "Sorry." She mumbled quietly.

"You don't look ill." Cole spoke from beside me.

"Well I am." She insisted.

I looked at her closely. "Whatever is making you ill isn't the same thing I've got, you look too healthy."

She rolled her eyes. "Let's just go watch some movies."

I smiled. "Of course." After all, it was our tradition.

"Cole do you want to come?" Lucy offered.

He shook his head. "I'm going to go help Cora with work in a bit."

"Okay." I smiled at him. "I have to get some breakfast first." I told Lucy.

She laughed lightly. "We both know you don't eat when you're ill."

My eyes widened and I glanced over at Cole who's face didn't change.

"Don't look at me like that, I'm not going to tell on you." Cole huffed. "But Lincoln will be pissed when he finds out you haven't eaten."

I shrugged in response. "I'll throw it up anyway."

Lucy and I soon left to go up to Lincoln's room, we laid down and began a movie but it wasn't long until I fell asleep.

I woke up to a phone ringing in the room, I groaned and covered my ears at the noise. It soon stopped fortunately.

"Hi Lincoln." Lucy spoke.

I wrenched open my eyes and squinted to see Lucy holding my phone to her ear.

"He's fine, he was just taking a nap." Lucy told Lincoln. "Oh, I thought I'd take the day off to keep Milo company. It's a tradition."

"You're so loud." I grumbled.

"Milo's awake." Lucy said. "And he seems to be in a great mood."

Lucy grabbed my arm and placed the phone in my hand, I slowly brought it to my ear.

"Hello?" I croaked with my throat like sandpaper.

"Hey Milo." Lincoln replied. "How are you feeling?"

"Awful." I admitted. "All the medicine wore off in my nap."

"Do you want me to come home?" I could hear the concern in his voice.

"No." I replied instantly. "Stay at school."

"Okay." He sighed. "I have a study period last lesson so I'll leave school then."

"Okay." I pulled the phone away from my ear and checked the time. "I'll see you in about two hours then."

"Yeah, feel better." Lincoln said before hanging up.

I tossed my phone away and placed my head back down on the pillow.

"Why'd you lie?" I glanced up at Lucy.

"What do you mean?" She asked confused.

"You told Lincoln that you skipped school to see me, you didn't say that you were ill too." I said.

She hesitated as she tried to think of a lie. "I didn't want him to tell Wyatt, Wyatt would just worry."

"You love when whoever your dating worries about you." I spoke quietly. "You like the attention."

She sighed. "Fine you're right."

"So if you're not ill then why are you here?" I asked her.

"I did throw up this morning, that wasn't a lie." This confused me.

"But you're not sick?" I frowned as something clicked in my head. "Lucy are you pregnant?"

She gasped in horror. "Of course I'm not! Don't be stupid."

"Then why are you being sick?" I questioned.

"Well I don't know." She shrugged. "People are just sick sometimes."

"Without a reason?" I sat up slowly. "Lucy what's going on?"

She looked down for a few moments when she lifted her head her eyes were full of tears. "I don't know. I've been throwing up and my periods late, and I'm really scared Milo."

I pulled her into a hug and buried my head in her hair. "Okay, you're fine Lucy. Everything's fine."

"I think I'm pregnant." She whispered before bursting out into tears.

"Lucy." I started pulling away from her. "Let's not worry until we know okay? Why don't you take a test and if it's positive you can worry then?"

She nodded and sniffled as she tried to slow down her tears. "I don't want to go buy a pregnancy test."

I would've offered but with how ill I am I was in no state to drive.

"Cora might have one?" I suggested.

"I don't want to tell her about this." Lucy said.

"She's the only option if you don't want to go buy one, because I am hardly in a position to leave the house." I reminded her.

She nodded. "I'll be back in a minute."

She stood up and slowly walked out of the room. It was about five minutes before she returned with a blue cardboard box.

"I told her they were for a friend." Lucy mumbled as she sat down on the bed.

I forced a small smile and nodded even though I knew that Cora most likely hadn't believed Lucy. Lucy's face was red and blotchy with lines of mascara down her face so it was fairly obvious that the test was for her.

There was a moment of silence as we both stared at the box, I couldn't help but feel as if I shouldn't be here for this.

"Do you think Wyatt should be here for this?" I asked her.

She shook her head rapidly. "No! He can't know about this, he'll be so upset. He always talks about how he doesn't want kids until we turn thirty. He says he wants us to have time together alone without children for a while."

"He'll understand and he'll be here to support you no matter what the test says." I told her and I didn't hold any doubt.

I knew that Wyatt would be here for Lucy no matter what, I trusted him fully with her more than I had ever trusted Oliver with her.

"But this could all be for nothing." She spoke more to herself than me. "I don't want to upset him about nothing."

I didn't feel as if this was the right choice but I also knew that I shouldn't force her into telling him so I kept quiet.

"I'm going to do it now before I talk myself out of it." Lucy spoke determined as she quickly entered Lincoln's bathroom and closed the door behind her.

Lucy returned a minute later, she silently walked over to the bed and sat down beside me. I watched her closely as tears streamed down her face.

"Is it positive?" I spoke quietly, the weight of the situation was finally landing on me.

"You have to wait a few minutes for the results." Her voice was void of emotion.

I just nodded. We sat in silence for the next ten minutes until the anticipation became too much for me.

"How long are we supposed to wait?" I asked, my leg bounced up and down with nerves.

"Three minutes." Lucy mumbled.

"Three?" I frowned. "It's been ten."

She released a shaky breath. "I know, can you check it for me? I don't think I can do it."

"Okay." I gave her a weak smile and stood up from the bed.

I walked into the bathroom and glanced around the room quickly until my eyes landed on the pregnancy test placed on top of the closed toilet seat. I hesitated before walking forward and picking up the test. I glanced down at it for a few moments before returning to Lucy.

She looked up at me expectantly but I kept my eyes on the test instead.

"I want to make sure I'm reading it right before I say anything." I told her. "Explain the lines to me."

"Two is positive, one is negative." She spoke quickly.

I nodded, that's what I thought it meant.

"So?" Lucy watched me terrified.

I took a deep breath and met her eyes. "It's positive."
