Chapter Five - It's the Truth
Milo P.O.V -
I sat at the table swirling a spoon in the bowl of cereal.
"You're going to be late for school." My mum told me. I checked the time before groaning.
"Wait a minute." Mamma stood up from the opposite side from the table. "I'll put some shoes on and drive you."
"Thank you." I smiled.
It's been two days since the party and Lucy was release last night but I was still yet to see her. Mum advised that I let her rest at home with her family, I agreed begrudgingly.
"Your damn dog was barking at my door last night." Mum spoke as she grabbed the keys and I followed her out to the car.
"You his favorite." I laughed slightly.
The car started and we were soon on our way to school. As we got nearer she turned drove straight past the building.
"Uh, you missed it." I pointed out.
"I called the school and told them you're having the day off." She explained not taking her eyes of the road.
My eyebrows furrowed while I looked out the window. "So where are we going."
"You are spending the day with Lucy." She pulled up outside Lucy's familiar home.
"Wait really?" She nodded. "Her parents don't mind."
"They called me and asked if you could watch her while they're at work." She smiled.
I jumped out the car running over to her house and knocking on the door excitedly. Lucy's father swung the door open, I greeted him briefly before sprinting up to Lucy's room.
I walked in without knocking, there was nothing Lucy could be doing that I wouldn't have seen before. She laid in bed a pile of blankets on top of her as she watched a movie on the TV mounted to the opposite wall.
"Talk about lazy, I almost thought you were ill of something." I jumped onto the bed laying next to her.
"What would give you that impression?" She joked a small smile spreading across her face as she rested her head on my shoulder.
"Seriously though, are you okay?" I pulled back to see her face.
"I'm fine." She told me.
I analyzed her expression for a few moments until nodding and leaning back on the pillow.
"You scared me." I mumbled.
She frowned glancing at me. "I'm sorry."
"The amount of times I've told you to be careful." I lectured. "If anything happened to you I would've -"
"Nothing happened." She reassured me. "Everything's fine now, I'll be more careful from now on."
"You promise?" I asked desperate.
"I promise." She smiled.
We turned our attention to the movie. As kids when one of us were ill the other would take the day off, but as we got older missing school became more important so our parents wouldn't let us do it anymore. The most common thing we did on these days off was have a movie day.
"It's near the end." She explained as I watched the TV confused.
"Ah, that makes sense." I nodded.
"I'm in the mood for a Disney marathon." She told me.
I grinned. "Sounds great."

I got a call from Oliver the a few minutes after school ended.
"Where have you been?" His voice was tired.
"Spent the day with Lucy." I explained glancing at where she was sleeping.
"How is she?" He asked with concern.
"She seems fine." I replied honestly.
"Is he okay?" I heard a voice from the other side of the phone
"Who's that?" I questioned.
"He's fine Lincoln." Oliver told him.
My eyes widened. "Lincoln?"
"Yeah, he came to see you. Wyatt's here too." I rolled my eyes at his words, he really disliked Wyatt.
"I'm leaving Lucy's house soon I can meet you guys somewhere." I suggested.
"Wait a minute." I heard distant voices but I couldn't make out what they were saying. "He said that they were planning on just going back to his house."
"Tell him to send me the address." I pulled my trainers on.
"Wyatt says that there address isn't on google maps or whatever." He grumbled.
I laughed at his tone. "Wyatt's a nice guy, stop being mean."
"Anyway we're just gonna stop by Lucy's house to pick you up." He replied ignoring my comment.
"Alright text me when you get here." I hung up the phone.
I shook Lucy lightly until she woke up, she lifted her head staring at me with tired eyes. "I'm gonna go meet up with Lincoln, Oliver and Wyatt."
"Have fun with your boyfriend." She nodded dropping her head back onto the pillow.
"Lincoln's not my boyfriend." I rolled my eyes despite the flutter in my stomach.
"Tell him that, he's the one with the crush." She mumbled tiredly.
I frowned in confusion as my phone dinged in my pocket, I assumed that is was Oliver so I made my way downstairs and out of the house.
I spotted a slightly familiar car parked outside, this was the car Oliver fixed right? I walked over opening the door and sliding into the back seat beside Lincoln.
"Hey." I smiled shyly in his direction.
His eyes lit up. "Hi Milo."
Wyatt started the car driving through areas of town which I don't tend to go, mainly because I don't have any rich friends who's parents can afford houses in this area.
Oliver reached his hand out to change the radio but Wyatt glared at him. "Don't touch my radio."
"You're music is shit." Oliver grumbled.
I laughed slightly. "Isn't this the band Lucy likes?"
Wyatt smirked while Oliver frowned. "I don't like Lucy's taste in music."
"Maybe you two aren't a good match." Wyatt suggested not taking his eyes of the road.
Oliver huffed. "Shut up! She's my girlfriend not yours."
"God you sound like a child." Wyatt grumbled.
I interrupted. "You both do."
Lincoln watched them both amused, although his eyes showed flickers of concern as he looked over at Wyatt.
I looked out of the window to see were surrounded by a forest. As I watched I saw a blur of brown flashing through the trees.
"Hey look it's a wolf." I pointed out the window.
Lincoln's eyes widened as he leaned over to look. "Yeah, I think there must be a pack nearby or something we see them quite a lot around here.
Wyatt laughed slightly from the drivers seat causing Lincoln to glare at him. "Shut up."
I ignored there interaction continuing to watch the animal. "It's huge, wolves aren't usually that big right?"
"Uh, I'm not sure I don't know much about them." Lincoln stuttered his eyes glazed over temporarily. "It should be gone soon."
Almost as soon as he said that the wolf disappeared from sight. I tilted my head for a moment before slumping back into the seat.
"We're here." Wyatt sighed in relief.
My jaw became slack as Oliver gasped. "This is where you live?" I spoke in disbelief.
"Yeah." Lincoln spoke unsure. "Do you like it?"
I didn't even know how to respond as we climbed out of the car. This was a mansion! Like an actual real mansion. Holy shit.
"Woah." Oliver mumbled walking closer.
My house must have looked like a shed to him, I suddenly felt embarrassed. I didn't usually consider my home small but compared to this it was.
"Is it just you and your parents who live here?" I asked Lincoln still surprised.
"Oliver's family and Cora's family live here along with a few others." He stuffed his hands in his pockets rocking on the balls of his feet.
"Oh really, how come?" I asked following after Oliver and Wyatt who had entered the house.
"My dad, Oliver's dad and Cora's dad started this business together."Â He stumbled over his words.
I glanced at him suspiciously. "What's the business?"
He paused for a moment in deep thought. "Uh- it's- shit."
I frowned. "Why are you lying?"
"The truth is my dad won the lottery but he doesn't really like telling people." He shrugged however his eyes didn't meet mine.
"Makes sense." I replied deciding to drop the subject. "This place is beautiful." I glanced around the large living room.
"Yeah..." He trailed of looking around himself. "That's weird my mom said she'd be here when I got hom-"
"Baby boy!" A sweet voice exclaimed. I looked to see a woman, she looked youthful despite being Lincoln's mother, she was quite short and had a round freckled face. Her brown hair hung loosely in waves around her face. She seemed to be a very innocent, cute woman.
Lincoln's eyes flickered between the two of us nervously. "Who's this?" She forced a smile and seemed slightly scared.
"I'm Milo." I held my hand out for her to shake.
Her eyes widened as she watched my hand. I awkwardly stuffed it in my pocket now confused.
"It's nice to meet you." I added hoping to relieve tension.
Her eyes had glossed over just like how Lincoln's had in the car, although it could just be tears forming.
Footsteps pounded down the stairs, a large muscular man stormed in. I noticed the similarities he shared with Lincoln, this must be his father.
"Bella?" He asked looking around concerned, he walked over wrapping his arms around her waist. "What's wrong?"
"There's a human." She whispered just loud enough for me to here.
There's something weird about this place. Lincoln's eyes flickered over to me concerned.
"Lincoln who is this?" His father glared slightly at Lincoln.
"This is Milo." His eyes became fogged once again.
"Really?" Lincoln's father nodded.
Lincoln nodded. His parents eyes widened as they both looked over to me.
"Should I go?" I asked Lincoln.
"No!" He exclaimed. "Just go down the hallway, Wyatt and Oliver are in the third door on the left."
"Uh okay." I trailed off.
I quickly walked away to escape the awkward situation. I found the two of them playing against each other at a video game. They were cursing and yelling at each other. Of course they have a game room.
I flopped onto a sofa watching them playing the game as I collected my thoughts. What the hell just happened?
"You alright?" Oliver asked not taking his eyes of this screen as he rapidly pressed the buttons.
"Huh?" I let out.
He glanced at me quickly. "You keep sighing. What happened?"
"Nothing." I muttered leaning my head back.
Wyatt laughed pausing the game. "Is Lincoln being cryptic?"
I raised a brow at him. He smiled. "Lincoln tends to not explain things well."
"His parents are... interesting." I added.
"He introduced you to his parents? Already?" I nodded. "Jeez you two haven't even know each other for a week yet. It's not like I've introduced Lucy to my-" His eyes widened as he abruptly turned to look at Oliver who fortunately had began to play a retro arcade game and wasn't listening to the conversation.
I see the relief wash over Wyatt's face as he turns back to me. "Subtle." I pointed out.
He frowned. "You know?"
"How could I not?" I scoffed. "You couldn't be more obvious."
"Says you." He crossed his arms. "You follow Lincoln like a little puppy."
"I do not!" I exclaimed.
"It's fine, he's just as bad." He smirked.
I rolled my eyes. "I don't believe that."
"You can believe whatever you want, but it's the truth." He muttered.
I just shook my head moving to sit up as Lincoln walked in. He walked across the room sitting next to me. Our legs brushed together before he shuffled to so he was slightly further away.
"Hey, sorry about my parents." He told me a sincere expression on his face.
"It's fine don't worry." I reassured him.
"I don't usual bring friends ho-" He was cut of by Oliver.
"Milo! They have a basketball game." He yelled from the other side of the room.
I stood up walking over to him. "I bet I can win."
Oliver scoffed. "No you won't"
"Alright you go first." I watched as he began the game. He managed to get around one hundred and ten points and he seemed to be happy with himself.
That was until it was my turn and I won by twenty six points. "Loser." I told him.
He narrowed his eyes playfully. "Beginners luck, I want a rematch."
We played first to five, unfortunately he won 5-4. "Ha, in your face."
"I'll play you." Wyatt stood up from where he had been talking to Lincoln.
Oliver's face became serious as he accepted the challenge. I laughed slightly walking away to sit beside Lincoln once again.
"Hi." I mumbled sitting down.
"What's wrong?" He asked concerned.
"Nothing I'm just tired." I rested my head on the back of the sofa not realizing that's where his arm was. "Sorry." I lifted my head.
"It's fine." He told me failing at keeping a smile off his face. "Uh you can sleep in my room if you want?"
"I'll just have a nap here, don't worry." I rested my head on the arm of the sofa pulling my knees to my chest so I wouldn't take up all the room.
Lincoln gently took hold of my ankles pulling my legs to rest on him. "You don't mind?"
"Not at all." He grinned.
***
"Get up!" A loud voice shouted as I was shoved off the sofa and onto the floor.
My face hit the cold wood. "Urgh." I groaned lifting my self up.
"We're leaving." Oliver lightly kicked my stomach.
I stood up noticing Lincoln had not moved from the sofa and was glaring at Oliver.
"Fine." I rubbed my forehead.
"Bye Lincoln." Oliver said. "Wyatt." He grimaced slightly.
"See you two later." I told them.
"Goodbye." Lincoln frowned slightly.
Wyatt just nodded slightly before continuing on the game he was playing. We walked out of the room searching for our way out of the house.
As we walked we ended up running into Lincoln's parents. "Can we talk to you for a moment?"
My eyes widened as my heart sped up. "Uh, okay?"
"I'll wait outside." Oliver mumbled.
He walked out of the front door, I turned back to Lincoln's parents.
"We would like to apologies." Lincoln's father started. "We did not create the best first impression."
I noticed how Lincoln's mother was slightly shaking in fear as she moved closer to her husband.
"Oh it's fine, Lincoln probably should have told you before he invited us over." I played with my hands.
"Usually we wouldn't mind but there have been a few family issues with strangers recently." He explained.
"Humans." I corrected. "You've had problems with humans specifically."
It wasn't difficult to figure out there was something different about them, especially with how often they slip up.
"Yes." He nodded watching me curiously. "But we're all humans here, aren't we?"
"Right." I replied crossing my arms.
He chuckled. "You're perfect for Lincoln."
"Can you go on a date with him?" Lincoln's mum blurted out before gasping and covering her mouth.
"What?" I spluttered.
"Go out with Lincoln." His father repeated.
I gaped at them for a moment. "Sure." I answered without thinking.
"Great." His father grinned.
I slowly backed away leaving the house and getting into the car with Oliver and his mum.
