Chapter Twenty Eight - Leave Me Alone

Milo's P.O.V -

It was finally time for me to go back to school, and unfortunately it was not the school I wanted to be at. I had only wanted to go to Eastwood because of the basketball team but now I couldn't even play.

I knew Lincoln and Wyatt wouldn't be in my classes because they were smart, smart enough to be in the top classes while I was in the bottom sets. The Principle told me that I would have to do an small exam today so that they could accurately decide where to put me.

Lincoln would be picking me up soon, I knew he was really excited about me being in the same school as him so I was going to try and not dampen his mood. My mum had been watching me nervously all morning, she was obviously concerned at me going back. I don't think she wanted me to get hurt again.

"Have fun today." She told me kissing my cheek once Lincoln had parked outside.

I nodded in reply before stroking Buddy's head and making my way out of the house. Lincoln got out of the car to hold my crutches while I climbed in before laying them across the backseat. He sat back down in the drivers seat looking at me with a grin.

"Are you excited?" He asked as he started the car. "I know I am."

"Yeah." I spoke quietly looking out of the window.

I remained silent for the rest of the journey as Lincoln explained all the teachers and students that I might meet today.

Too soon we were pulling into the car park of Eastwood. I stared out at all the unfamiliar students walking into the building, some were in groups talking around their cars.

I took a deep breath, undoing my seat belt and putting on my rucksack as Lincoln went to fetch my crutches. I thanked him as he passed them to me letting me stand up. He closed the door behind me and then proceeded to lock the car.

He kept a slow pace as he walked beside me as we made our way to the school. I noticed that quite a few of the teenagers had turned to look at us with curiosity.

"Why are they staring?" I spoke lowly as we neared the entrance.

"Because you're the alpha's mate, who they've never met before." He explained not fazed by the amount of eyes on us.

I looked down at the ground as this way I wouldn't be aware of how many people were focused on us. Lincoln held the door open as we went into the building, the previously noisy hallway quietened slightly as they took notice of us.

"Hey guys!" Wyatt greeted loudly as he looked towards.

Everyone remained silently as they intently viewed the exchange.

"Hey." Lincoln responded not noticing how tense I was in this situation.

"Do you two have to go to the office to get Milo's timetable?" Wyatt asked.

I noticed more people returned to their conversations for which I was grateful but people still stared at me.

I didn't like that they were staring at me because I didn't know what they were thinking. In my old school people would look at me but I knew it was because I was popular and on the basketball team. I knew these people were analyzing me to see if I was good enough for their Alpha and I was uncomfortable with that.

"Milo has to do a test during first period to find out his classes so he won't get his timetable yet, but I do need to take him to the office." Lincoln explained as if I wasn't here.

"I'll come with." Wyatt shifted the books he was holding from one arm to the other.

I stayed quiet as we walked down the hall, Wyatt and Lincoln were chatting about some football game. When we reached the office they both insisted on coming in with me.

"You can leave now." I told him.

"No it's fine I'll wait with you." He smiled sitting in a chair beside me.

I sighed looking down. He frowned at me reaching to grab my hand but I pulled it away from him.

"What's wrong?" He spoke concerned. "Have I done something?"

"No." I mumbled. "I just don't need you following me around all day."

"I was just keeping you company." He explained.

"Maybe I don't want company." I whispered.

I noticed that Wyatt was stood uncomfortably in front of us.

"Lincoln maybe we should give him some space." Wyatt suggested. "Everyone has been coddling him lately."

I was grateful for Wyatt's input, he seemed to understand what I meant.

"If that's what you want?" Lincoln raised a brow questioningly.

I nodded making eye contact with him.

"Okay." He muttered standing up and throwing his backpack over his shoulder. "I'll see you later then."

He left quickly before I could say goodbye, this told me that what I had said upset him.

"Bye." Wyatt smiled before following after Lincoln.

I was called into the principles office. He began to talk for a long time about school expectations, he told me that he would not tolerate me getting into any fights here. He also tried to put me in a special help class because of my ADHD but I told him I didn't need extra help.

I was soon doing the test. I found it difficult to concentrate as the principle spent the entire time typing on his computer. I didn't know many of the answers anyway.

I gave him the test ten minutes before I was supposed to finish which surprised him. He must have took this to mean I was smart and knew all the answers when in reality most of the pages were blank.

"I'll mark this now." He told me before pulling out a green pen.

I sat in the chair nervously as I watched him. I was too far away to see what he was doing but I could tell he was writing a lot of crosses. He had a small frown on his face as he read my answers.

"Okay." He spoke slowly before turning to his computer beginning to type. "I'm going to put you in the lowest class for all of your subjects. Except French, you're very good at that, you'll be in top set for that."

I nodded along to what he said. I wasn't in bottom class in my old school but this place had much smarter kids so I was expecting this.

He began to print of a sheet before passing it to me. I glanced at it to see my school timetable.

"Second period started about five minutes ago so you should go there now." He told me. "On the back of the sheet is a map."

I nodded standing up and using my crutches to walk out.

After hours of class it was finally lunch and I knew I would have to deal with Lincoln being annoyed with me.

I stepped into the cafeteria completely confused. Lincoln and Wyatt were no where to be seen so I had no idea where to sit. I had never had this issue before, whenever I joined a school I always had either Lucy or my sister to sit with.

"Hi." A voice startled me.

I looked to see a blonde girl grinning at me.

"Uh hi." I spoke unsure.

"I'm Ella." She greeted.

"I'm Milo." I mumbled.

"I know." She spoke enthusiastically. "Everyone is really excited to meet you, we hardly ever get new kids here, especially humans."

I nodded awkwardly. "Thanks."

"Are you looking for Alpha Lincoln?" She asked me.

"Yeah, do you know where he is?" I asked hopeful.

"Nope." She shook her head. "He hardly ever sits in the cafeteria, I think he goes off site for lunch."

"Oh." I frowned looking around the room again.

"But you can sit with us." She offered kindly.

She gestured over to a table, there was two other girls sat there and two boys.

"Thank you." I spoke gratefully.

We walked over to the table. She grabbed a chair from another table passing it to me. I sat down before thanking her again.

"This is Milo." Ella introduced me. "And Milo these are my friends, Lilly, Chloe, Kyle and Louis.

She pointed to each person as she introduced them. Lilly had her brown hair platted into a crown on her head, she smiled warmly at me. Chloe had pushed her red hair out of her freckled face and smiled shyly.

Kyle nodded in greeting but had a tired expression on his face and Louis hadn't yet looked up from the book he was reading.

"Hi." I spoke quietly.

"You must be Alpha Lincoln's mate." Lilly spoke interested.

"He might not know." Chloe whispered in panic.

"He knows." Ella spoke for me.

I nodded in confirmation.

"Then why wouldn't you move here sooner?" Chloe asked intrigued.

"Because I had lots of friends in my old school and I was on the basketball team there." I answered. "I wouldn't move just for Lincoln."

"Really?" Lilly asked surprised. "Louis moved here for his mate."

"Huh?" He looked up.

"I was talking about how you moved to this school for your mate." She told him.

"I also moved here because I was getting bullied but sure." He said.

"Who's your mate?" I asked him.

"Oh she's over there." He gestured to a table of girls in cheerleading outfits. "She's the captain."

I looked at the table looking at each of the girls quietly wondering which one she was before looking back to him. He stared for a moment a small smile spreading on his face before he returned his attention to his book.

"We all have mates fortunately." Ella told me.

"That's nice." I told her.

"Kyle here is mine." She smiled over at him. He had his head rested on the table as he tried to sleep. "He was out late playing football with his friends so he's exhausted."

"And we're mates." Lilly said looking at Chloe who blushed.

"It must be so interesting to be human and not know if there's someone out there for you." Ella told me. "And you have no way of figuring out who it is, they could walk past you and you would never know."

"I never really thought about it." I shrugged. "I guess we all just hope everything figures itself out."

"And plus that means we aren't restricted to one person." Louis mumbled not taking his eyes away from the book.

"You're human?" I asked confused. "I thought this school was only werewolves."

"There are some humans here, but they are all mated to werewolves." Ella explained. "There are currently four humans that go here."

It was nice to know that I wasn't the only one.

"Milo." A voice called.

We all looked over to see Wyatt walking towards us.

"I've been looking for you." He said as he reached us.

"And you didn't think to check the cafeteria?" I asked suspicious.

"We went to the principle to find out what class you had and then we went to see if you was there." He shrugged.

"You could've texted." I deadpanned.

"I guess." He mumbled. "Anyway, do you want to come with us to lunch."

"Where are you going?" I asked him.

"Some café down the road." He stuffed his hands in his pockets.

"Oh." I frowned. "I didn't bring any money with me, I brought a lunch in my bag."

"Lincoln will pay." Wyatt offered. "Unless you want to eat the lunch you have."

I thought for a moment. "I might as well eat here, Lincoln's mad at me anyway."

"True." He nodded. "I'll see you later then."

"Okay, bye." I told him before turning back to the table to find all the girls watching us.

Louis was to busy reading and Kyle was fast asleep.

"Why is Alpha Lincoln mad at you?" Lilly asked me.

Chloe lightly hit her arm. "Don't intrude."

"It's fine." I told them. "Lincoln's mad because I told him to leave me alone today."

"Oh." Ella frowned. "Why would you do that?"

"Because, I don't need him to do everything for me." I mumbled. "And I want people to know me outside of being the alpha's mate."

"I get that." Louis looked up at me. "Everyone always refers to me as Bella's mate, but they don't care who I am."

"Exactly." I smiled.

I was thankful that someone understood how I felt.
