Chapter Twenty Two - Not Good Enough
Milo's PO.V -
I must have passed out during the walk through the woods because when I woke up I was in a hospital room.
"Bambino." I turned to look at my mum who was sat in the chair beside the bed I was in.
She looked disheveled, she had bags under her eyes and her hair was uncombed. Her eyes were red and puffy telling me she had been crying recently.
"Mi sei mancato." (I have missed you) She smiled sadly running her hand through my hair.
I wasn't sure what the intentions of her words were but they just filled me with guilt for having made her so upset.
I looked away from her not sure what to say only to notice I was in a private hospital room. I gritted my teeth as I thought about how much this room must cost and how I knew my mum wouldn't be able to afford it.
I turned my attention to my arms which had sleeves of bruises and a few stitches, my eyes passed my clothed body and to my right leg. There was now a blue cast around the limb but I could remember how it was bent to the side and how the bone pushed against the skin threatening to break through. I remember Oliver's dad stomping on it while someone else held it in the air. I remember Bella wincing at the crack while I shouted in pain.
Bella. I wonder where she was, maybe she was in a different hospital room or maybe she was already home. After all I had no idea how long I've been out, it could have been a day or it could have been a week.
I scanned the room quickly noticing no one else was here, not even a nurse. I had somewhat expected Lincoln to be here but once I saw that it was pitch black outside I came to the conclusion that visiting time was over. I also knew that you're usually only allowed to have one person sleep over in your room.
"Milo." My mum said her voice laced in concern. "What's wrong?"
I wanted to laugh at her question. What's wrong? Well I was just kidnapped and beaten for weeks but apart from that not much.
"Are you going to talk?" She asked moving to hold my hand.
I didn't respond which I suppose answers her question. She frowned at me before removing her hand and standing up.
"I should tell the nurse you're awake." She forced a smile before quickly leaving.
She returned five minutes later or maybe it was ten. After spending however long in a single room I was no longer sure how time worked. If I was to guess I would say I was locked in that room for a month but I could easily be wrong.
The nurse behind her was a muscular man, I wonder when he gets the time to exercise considering the long hours his work entails. He walked over pulling out the clipboard before looking at me with a small smile. The smile was most likely intended to be comforting or friendly but a stranger stood at the foot of the bed was relatively creepy.
I frowned at him, this did nothing to damper his mood however.
"It's nice to see you awake." He spoke cheerily.
"He hasn't spoken." My mother stated stroking a strand of her hair in distress.
"That could be to do with the trauma." He spoke quietly to her but I could still hear him. "So Milo, I can explain your injuries for you if you'd like." He spoke more seriously this time.
I think I know what my injuries are, I can see and feel them. Plus I was there when they happened. He seemed to take my silence as confirmation.
"So clearly you have a lot of bruises, we expect these to fade within two to three weeks. The burns you have should also heal in two weeks." He started. "In total you have been given thirty two stitches most of which are on your torso, you are also being given antibiotics to treat the infections you had in some of these wounds." He gestured towards the drip going into my arm.
"We also performed a surgery on your leg." He explained. This caught my attention as I wasn't aware of this. "We had to place some screws in the bone to correct it, we expect the leg to heal in three to four months."
Three to four months? I'm never playing basketball again. After it's healed my leg will still be weak and I might need to get physiotherapy by that time the season will almost be over.
I clenched my jaw and took a deep breath. My mum must have noticed my distress as she placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Why don't I call Lucy and tell her you've woken up?" She asked once the doctor left. "That might cheer you up." She appeared to be speaking more to herself than me.
I didn't need Lucy turning up only to cry and feel bad for me, I wasn't worth it. I managed to shake my head at her before resting it back onto the pillow.
She didn't call Lucy as far as I'm aware but she did spend a few minutes texting someone. I stared at the ceiling for a long period of time until finally I passed out.

My mum got annoyed when I wouldn't eat the food, she told me that the doctors had said I'm suffering from malnutrition from not eating properly for two weeks. I found out I was there for two weeks which was a lot less than I had previously thought. I had also only been asleep for a day. My mum also told me that it's November second.
My mum yelled at me for not eating, she was soon scolded by a nurse who then felt it was appropriate to explain that I was traumatized in front of me. I didn't care much about it though, she might be right.
Mum called Lucy about twenty minutes ago so she should be getting here soon but I didn't want to see her. She would tell Lincoln and Wyatt and they would mostly likely visit too.
Lucy wasn't the first to arrive Wyatt and Lincoln were. I could hear them arguing in hushed whispers in the doorway with my mum. She begrudgingly let them in before sitting in the chair she had slept in last night.
Lincoln walked over to the opposite side of the bed, he dragged a chair over to me. He leaned forward so that he was leaning on his elbows and looking up at me. I waited for him to say something but he didn't, he just smiled at me.
I was grateful that he wasn't trying to have a conversation with me and instead just decided to sit there. Wyatt on the other hand did not do the same.
"Hey Milo!" He spoke energetically a huge smile on his face. "It's so great to see you again, we've all missed you. Especially Lincoln."
I glanced between Wyatt and Lincoln. I couldn't imagine how upset Lincoln was, he was already devastated about his mum when I was taken. I blamed myself for making him feel worse.
"I can't sit around with you two here." My mum grumbled under her breath. "I'm going to get a coffee."
She walked out of the room to my relief, she had refused to leave me until now.
"Oh yeah we told your mum about us." Wyatt chuckled. "She did not take it well."
That explains why she didn't want them here, I wished she was more angry and didn't let them in. They shouldn't have to deal with me being a burden.
"You didn't miss much, well you missed Halloween but we all did. This year I was going to dress up as-" He was cut of by Lincoln who glared at him.
"Wyatt, I don't think he cares what you were going to dress up as." Lincoln told him.
I definitely did not want to hear about how I ruined their Halloween, I already knew I ruined the past two weeks.
"Oh sorry." Wyatt mumbled with a frown.
I ignored Wyatt and stared at Lincoln silently pleading for him to mention his mum, I needed to hear if she was okay.
"I'm so glad you're here." Lincoln spoke under his breath as he took my hand and kissed it.
His life would actually be easier if I wasn't in it, he wouldn't be so worried.
Nothing else was said until Lucy arrived three minutes later, I had eventually noticed the clock on the wall which I appreciated.
"Milo!" She exclaimed as she rushed in. She sat in the chair where my mother had been and looked at me with wide watery eyes. "I've missed you."
A few tears fell from her eyes, she stared up at me expecting me to reply but she frowned when I didn't.
"His mum said he hasn't said anything since waking up." Wyatt told her. My mum must have said something before they walked in.
She nodded giving me a smile. "How about we watch a movie?"
She picked up the backpack she had with her and pulled out her laptop. I glanced inside the bag to see it was full of games. That's why she took so long she was getting things to entertain me and here I was being ungrateful and ignoring her.
She powered it on searching though it. "What should we watch?" She mumbled quietly, I knew she wasn't asking me.
Wyatt walked over to look at the laptop. "Call me by your name is a good movie." He pointed at the screen.
Lucy shook her head. "Milo doesn't like Romance movies."
Great, they were deciding a movie based of me rather than making themselves happy. Just what I wanted.
"Oh you like Pulp fiction." Lucy said tapping at the laptop.
"That has romance in it." Wyatt retorted.
"Oh shut up." She smiled at him.
"What's wrong with romance movies anyway?" Wyatt looked up at me. "Sure, maybe they're not as exciting as action movies but they're more heartwarming and realistic."
"What about the ones where one of them dies? They're not heartwarming." Lucy pointed out.
"I guess." He muttered. "Just start the movie."
She placed the laptop on the edge of the bed, she was cautious not to hurt me in any way. Lucy and Wyatt had their eyes glued to the screen as they shared a chair, Lucy was sat on his lap.
I realized Lincoln hadn't said or done anything in a while so I turned to look at him. He was still holding my hand but he now had his head rested on the bed, his eyes were shut so I took this time to admire his face.
I pulled my hand from his placing it in his hair and playing with the brown strands. Just because I didn't deserve him doesn't mean I can't want him right?
I didn't even notice my mum walking back into the room and sitting on the couch on the far wall nor did I notice that the movie ended. I had spent the entire time staring at Lincoln.
"Okay the movies over." My mum spoke from the couch, this woke up Lincoln. I quickly pulled my hand away placing it beside me. "You should go now, Milo's got the therapist coming to talk to him soon."
Lucy nodded putting picking up her laptop. "Can we come back later?"
My mum looked at me and then Lucy hesitantly. "I'm not sure, I'll call you later."
I didn't want them back, I don't deserve their time.
"I'll see you soon." Lucy smiled at me. "I'm going to leave my bag here, it has a lot of games and stuff to do if you get bored."
My mum smiled at her. "That's very nice of you."
"Bye Milo." Wyatt waved before grabbing Lucy's hand, the one which wasn't holding the laptop, before walking out.
Lincoln didn't move for a few moments just staring at me before he eventually stood up placing a kiss on my head.
"I love you Milo." He whispered so low that my mum couldn't hear.
He took a step away still not taking his eyes of me before he sighed turning and leaving.
I love you too Lincoln and I'm sorry I'm not good enough for you.
