Lu Weixi knew he was bloody, but she had no idea his body was also so severely wounded.
Her fingers gently traced the spot on his back where heâd been hit. He shivered violently at her touch, his brows furrowing slightly.
Lu Weixi quickly withdrew her hand. âDoes it hurt?â
Qin Zhiyou shook his head. âNo, itâs nothing. It just looks worse than it is. When my father used to beat me as a child, it was much worse.â
The lighter he made it seem, the more she felt for him. She carefully covered him back up with his clothes. Qin Zhiyou beckoned her closer; she laid down next to him, their faces opposite each other.
Lying like this, she could see the bandages tied around his forehead, like a swipe of courage in an animated film. His slightly disheveled bangs gave him a handsome yet somewhat desolate look.
âIâm sorry. If it werenât for me today, you wouldnât have ended up like this.â He tenderly moved a few strands of hair from her forehead, smoothing them behind her ear.
âWhat are you talking about? If I donât protect you, who will I protect?â Qin Zhiyouâs voice was low, as if he were speaking through a lump of coffee candy in his throat, a deep sweetness laced with bitterness.
âZhiyou.â Lu Weixi lifted her gaze slightly. Her heart felt tender and aching. At this close distance, she could see his eyelashes flutter with every breath he took.
In the hospital light, all he saw was her.
Slowly, Qin Zhiyouâs face moved closer. Clearly, his aim was the corner of her mouth.
Ten centimeters, five centimeters, three centimeters â closer, then even closer. As he approached, Lu Weixi slowly closed her eyes. She even lifted her chin, gently matching his pace, ready to meet him.
Just as they were about to touch, though.
âTime for roundsââ
Suddenly, the door to the ward was opened and a nurse came in with a medical cart. Upon entering, the nurse found Qin Zhiyou on the bed, and surprisingly, Lu Weixi rolled on the floor, scrambling to get up.
âDoing rounds, right?â
She quickly stood up, watching as the nurse changed his dressings and administered medication. She also stood up in a rush; still wearing his clothes, it felt improper. Not to mention, water from the bottle had splashed all over her. She hurriedly took her own clothes to the restroom to change.
When she came out, Qin Zhiyouâs medication had already been changed, and his IV drip had started. The fast drip rate made quick ticking sounds.@@novelbin@@
The drip would help his bleeding wounds heal faster. But what Qin Zhiyou cared about was, âDoctor, can I take a bath?â
âWhat do you think?â The nurse didnât bother to waste words with him. Once she had finished her work, she prepared to leave with the medical cart, but not before instructing, âCall me when the drip is done.â
Lu Weixi nodded, leaving only the two of them in the room.
Qin Zhiyou was a bit irritated. He wasnât that badly hurt. While he couldnât wash his head due to the injury, did that also mean he couldnât wash the rest of his body?
With medicine on his back, he could still rinse off his front, right?
âIâm so dirty, itâs uncomfortable not to bathe.â Heâd been rolling around in the mud and rain earlier, his body was still covered in blood. How could he bear not taking a bath?
âDonât bathe. It might make your wounds worse.â Lu Weixi saw his disgusted expression and knew his obsession with cleanliness was acting up again.
âI can skip the bath, but⦠could you help me wipe my body? Both front and back.â
âWhat?â Lu Weixi was stunned. Qin Zhiyou had already adjusted his position, unbuttoning his shirt, and looked at her expectantly.
