Qin Zhiyou heard it from inside but pretended not to and continued to gnaw at his prey.
But Lu Weixi, being an earnest child, quickly nudged him. âZhiyou, go open the door.â
Who could it be knocking at this hour? It must be nothing good. Qin Zhiyou didnât feel like it. He mumbled, âItâs fine, weâll deal with it tomorrow.ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Yet, the knocking persisted. Lu Weixi couldnât ignore it any longer. She quickly pushed him aside, âYou go, hurry, be quick and come back.â
Qin Zhiyou took a deep breath, furrowed his brows, reluctantly agreed with a pained expression, rolled out of bed, and, without even putting on his slippers, rushed over to yank open the doorâ
Standing there was Aunt Hao, holding two bowls of dark herbal medicine. âYoung Master, this is for you and Young Madam. The one on the left is yours, the one on the right is for Young Madam.â
They were tonics, specifically for fertility and prenatal health.
Lu Weixi had been taking this medicine for several months. A few days ago, when they went to the traditional Chinese medicine hospital for resupplies, even she didnât know that Qin Zhiyou had quietly told the doctor to add an ingredient to promote egg release. He was hoping sheâd get pregnant soon.
He was about to lose his temper, but upon seeing Aunt Hao and the two bowls of medicine at the doorâ¦
Well, speeding up pregnancy was indeed something he couldnât afford to neglect.
So, he snatched his bowl like a whirlwind, gulped it down in one go, swiftly shoved the empty bowl back into Aunt Haoâs arms, turned to pick up the other bowl, managed to close the door simultaneously, âWeâll take this one tomorrow morning.â
No sooner had he finished what he was saying than the door shut with a thud.
After shutting the door, he didnât forget to bolt it, to see who else would dare knock! Qin Zhiyou carried Lu Weixiâs bowl of medicine, rushed back briskly, held it to her lips, âDown the hatch.â
Lu Weixi replied with a quiet âHmmâ, taking little sips. Herbal medicine is that type of thing â the slower you drink it, the more unbearable it becomes. Lu Weixiâs small face instantly scrunched up, âSo bitter. Do you have any sugar?â
There shouldâve been some. Aunt Haoâs tray had a piece of sugar on it, but because he had shut the door too quickly, he only got the medicine and missed the sugar.
Qin Zhiyou glanced around the room before nodding, âDrink it first, Iâll get it for you.â
Lu Weixi nodded. Thankfully, they had some leftover chocolate in the room. Although the chocolate was a bit bitter, compared to the herbal medicineâs bitterness, it was nothing.
Qin Zhiyou fetched a piece of chocolate and unwrapped it. Just as Lu Weixi finished her medicine, she put the bowl on the bedside table, her eyebrows furrowed from the bitter taste. As soon as she saw Qin Zhiyou unwrap the chocolate, she immediately reached out for it.
Qin Zhiyou pulled out a small piece of chocolate, and just when it seemed he was about to place it in Wei Xiâs hand, he deftly moved his hand,â and tossed it into his own mouth instead.
âQin Zhiyou, why did you steal my candy!â Lu Weixi was upset. Just as she was complaining, Qin Zhiyou abruptly leaned closer, using the chocolate like a battering-ram, instantly breaking through her red lips.
âUmmââ The sweetness of the chocolate, mixed with a hint of bitterness, instantly overpowered the strong taste of the herbs. And since chocolate melted with heat, it quickly slid down her throat, leaving her with the sweet, silky taste of chocolate.
When Lu Weixi tried to get up and turn off the light, she found herself held back by Qin Zhiyouâs arm.
