After watching them leave, Qin Zhigu also stepped into the rain. Just as he got into his car, but before he started it, his phone rang. Looking at the screen, he saw the name, âCai Yirenâ. He immediately put his phone back down.
The phone continued to vibrate. He tossed it onto the passenger seat and turned the steering wheel to drive away.
â
The rain, although intermittent, continued until ten in the evening, accompanied by the faint sound of thunder.
Having finished her work, Lu Weixi closed the window against the whirling wind outside. She pressed against her slightly throbbing temples, and turned on her phone, where a message from her mother awaited her.
Her mother had been moved from the intensive care unit to a regular ward, and was now allowed to use her phone. If Wei Hui couldnât visit her in the hospital, she was required to video chat with her mother regularly.
Today Lu Weixi was obviously distracted. When her mother asked her something, she paused for awhile before responding, âAh, mom what did you say? Can you repeat it?â
Her mother sighed, only a mother would know her daughterâs heartache. Lately, her interactions with Lu Weixi made it obvious that she had reservations against divorcing Qin Zhiyou.
She didnât want to get divorced. Apart from her health issues, the problem primarily lied within herself.
A mother naturally wouldnât want her daughter to suffer. If possible, she hoped that her daughter could leave a trashy man and live a peaceful life.
She didnât know what sort of magic Qin Zhiyou had bestowed upon her. Initially, Lu Weixi had shown aversion towards him. However, she seemed somewhat lost now.
Still, she knew her daughter well enough to avoid dissuading her directly; it might fuel Weixiâs determination instead. She was utterly dissatisfied with Qin Zhiyou and wished her daughter could divorce him sooner. She had always conveyed this to Lu Weixi, who understood her sentiments perfectly. She wouldnât fall too deeply, or end up like her mother.
After ending the call, seeing that Qin Zhiyou had not returned, Lu Weixi massaged her temples, feeling a slight headache. She got up, planning to make some hot milk. As she opened the door and ventured out, she caught a glimpse of Qin Zhigu on the phone at the end of the corridor. Not giving it a second thought, she went back to her room with her warmed milk.
Qin Zhigu indeed was on the call. He was answering a call from Cai Yiren.
Cai Yiren had been harassing him for the past few days. Eventually, even a person as patient as Qin Zhigu was forced to block her calls.
However, Cai Yiren had grown smart. She used someone elseâs phone to call him, catching him off guard, and he picked up the call.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
It sounded like Cai Yiren had been drinking. She was crying as she spoke, âZhisu, why wonât you answer my calls? I know youâre mad at me. You blame me. But I really really like you. From the past till now, itâs only been you for me. Why wonât you â hic â why wonât you give me a second glance? Whatâs so good about Lu Weixi? Youâve dated both her and me. Why do you only think of her and never turn around to look at me?â
Qin Zhigu was annoyed, massaging his temples, âCai Yiren, even if I were not with Xixi, I would never love you. You know why we were together back then â I misunderstood Xixi and I was worried that youâd harm yourself. But later, I realized you were much stronger than her. You donât need to play these games, you can do better on your own. Moreover, youâve taken everything of Xixiâs â her father is now yours, her identity has become yours. What more do you want?â
