*Piper*
Jason was still in hospital and I had almost lost all hope. Days, weeks and months flew by. I tried to visit him daily in addition to rehearsing for the play, because the show must go on. Jason was still in critical condition. The poison was not completely out of his body, so in principle it could still go wrong, but I would rather not think about that.
At the moment I was under a lot of stress. It was the day before Christmas and this evening I had my play. I tried to avoid Victor, my opponent, as much as possible. He had already approached me several times, because he wanted to practise the kissing scene. Preferably in a dark alley or in the broom closet at school, but "strangely enough" I had no desire to do that.
"Are you ready, Piper?" Luca asked tensely. I had invited the boys and Lyla to come and watch tonight. Lyla couldn't come, as she could barely walk, but the boys came. Luca seemed particularly nervous for me.
"I guess so. I know my script by heart so I'll be fine." I put on my coat and took the car keys from the table. "I'll go ahead. The cast should be here before then."
"Okay, drive carefully!" Called Luca. I got in the car and drove to my school.
*Adam*
"Luca dude. Take it easy! You're shaking all over man!" I said, laughing. Luca sat on the bench and his leg started to shake. "Why are you so nervous?" He pulled a bundle of paper from the inside pocket of his jacket and threw it at me.
"What's this?" I asked as I flipped through the paper leg.
"Piper's script. I copied it."
"Why would you do that?"
"Piper doesn't talk to me much anymore. I want her back so badly and I thought it would be romantic if I surprised her on stage." I looked at Luca with wide eyes.
"Wait? You want to say this to her on stage?" He nodded.
"I should be the person kissing her awake, not some asshole."
"Then what are you still doing here? The cast should be here before then!" I repeated. Luca jumped up from the couch and pulled the script out of my hands. At top speed he ran out of the room and I heard the front door close with a bang. Ah, young love. Talking about young love. I really had to do something for Peyton. What if she finds someone else who is much better than me? I lay down on the sofa and put my hands under my head. I quickly looked at the clock and saw that I had just over an hour left. I decided to enjoy the peace and quiet and closed my eyes. Suddenly, all peace and quiet was shattered by an icy scream.
"Lyla?" I called out, worried. I sprinted quickly up the stairs to Jason and Lyla's room and knocked on the door. "Is everything alright?" Again a scream sounded.
"Adam! Call someone!" She shouted. "The baby's coming!" I immediately panicked. I jumped from one leg to the other. Uhm, yes, phone! I pulled my mobile out of my pocket and typed in the emergency number. Please, hurry up!
*Luca*
The play had already started, but none of the boys had shown up yet. I would sneak a peek at my mobile to see if anything was going on, but every time I looked, the old woman next to me would get super pissed. I decided to focus on Piper. She looked beautiful. Her long brown hair waved and moved with every move she made. The stage lights made her green eyes sparkle. Every now and then I looked at her opposite number Victor. What a jerk he was. He certainly thought he was better than the rest. The red curtains closed and the lights in the auditorium went back on. I got up and walked towards the dressing rooms.
"Luca, what are you doing here?" I heard Piper say behind me. I turned around and gave her a confident smile.
"I just came to say how good I think you are." I laughed.
"Yeah, sure." she chuckled uncertainly.
"I mean it." I stroked my hand along her cheek and she turned a little red.
"I think it's time for you to go dude." I heard a heavy voice whine behind me. Victor was standing with his back leaning against the wall, looking at me grumpily.
"It is indeed time to go, Piper." Said I extra sweetly to her. Victor mocked me, but I paid no attention to it. Piper walked into her dressing room and me and Victor stayed behind.
"She doesn't love you anymore." He said quietly. I looked at him angrily.
"Deep down in her heart she does." I replied. "You know what? Why don't we settle this like real men." Victor clenched his fists and looked at me cockily.
"Not here!" I shouted angrily. "Right there!" I pointed to a door near him.
"A pantry?" He asked. I just nodded. He shrugged and walked into the cupboard. Quickly I ran to the door and closed it.
"Hey!" I heard Victor's choked cry. "Let me out!"
"After the play only!" I shouted back. I quickly ran into Victor's dressing room and dressed up. Fortunately, I didn't have to bring my character back on stage until the end. I read my script again and hid behind the curtains. The play had started again. Piper was lying on a white hospital bed, just like Jason. It broke me inside, even though I knew it wasn't real. Her co-stars sat around her bed playing their parts. I knew it was my turn now. Step by step I walked onto the stage. I had to work very hard not to laugh when I saw the surprised faces of the actors and the surprised noises from the audience. I kept my face tight and walked towards Piper. Her eyes were closed and her lips were slightly parted. I put my hand next to her head and with the other I brushed some hair from her face. How beautiful she was. Carefully I bent down and gently pressed my lips on hers. From the audience I heard 'oohs' and 'ahs'. Piper blinked her eyes and looked at me.
"Luca?" She whispered in surprise. I leaned forward and pressed my lips to hers. It wasn't officially in the script, but who cares!
*Lyla*
"Congratulations, it's a girl." Said the nurse as she placed the crying little girl in my arms. I looked at the little girl who was gently grabbing her arm.
"Hello there, little girl!" I said softly. The tears leapt into my eyes. "How beautiful you are." Slowly she stopped crying.
"You did well, Lyla." Said Adam sitting traumatised on a chair. I laughed at his facial expression.
"Are you going to be all right?" I laughed. Adam nodded. "Good." The nurses took my girl for some checks. When they came back, a smile appeared on my face. I sat up and threw my legs off the bed. I took my little girl out of the incubator and walked out of the room.
"What are you going to do, Lyla? You need to rest." Said Adam.
"I'm just going to see Jason for a while." I went to the intensive care unit and walked into Jason's room. He was still on all kinds of machines that were keeping him alive. I sat down on the bed next to him.
"Look little girl." I said to my daughter. "This is your daddy." I bent down a little so that she too could see her father. She unconsciously held out her little arm to him. I bent forward even more and her little fist touched his cheek. Slowly I filled up again. I held my little girl close to me again and gave her a kiss on her little head. Suddenly I heard a low growl.
"Adam, was that you?" I asked. He shook his head. I looked at Jason and saw his upper lip twitch.
"Jason!" I saw that he was struggling tremendously to open his eyes. I put my hand on his cheek and he bent his head closer to me. Carefully he opened his eyes. "Jason!"
"Lyla?" He whispered in a cracking voice. I put my arms around him and started crying against his chest.
"What happened?" I quickly handed him a glass of water so he could rinse his mouth. Carefully, he sat up a little more straight and threw the contents of the glass in. His gaze fell on the child in my arms.
"Who is that?" he asked softly. "Is it..."
"Yours?" I looked at the ground. "Yes."
"Can I hold her?" I nodded and put the baby in his arms. I saw a tear relax from the corner of his eye. "She's so beautiful. She looks like you." I smiled at the pair of them. My twosome. Jason looked around the room.
"Where's the rest? Where's Piper? Is she okay?" He asked.
"Piper has a play today. She, Luca and the rest don't know anything yet." Said Adam. I took our daughter from him again and he started pulling wires and tubes off his body.
"Jason! What are you doing!" I shouted.
"I have to let them know that everything is going well." he said firmly. I pushed him back on the bed with one hand.
"Jason, you've been out for five months! You can't just walk away like nothing happened!" But Jason didn't listen.
"Adam! Dude! You'll take me away won't you?" Adam laughed and nodded.
"Adam! You don't!"
"I'll be right back, honey. I'll be back soon for you and the baby!" Adam put plasters over a number of wounds and he quickly put on a jacket for Jason. I rested my head helplessly in one hand and with the other I held the baby. Jason quickly kissed my head and walked out of the room with the help of Adam.
*Piper*
"Luca?" Luca hung over my head. Did he kiss me awake? Again he leaned toward me and pressed his soft lips to mine. Oh how I missed this. But wait, where is Victor?
"I love you, Rose." Luca acted.
"I love you too, Phil." The crowd got up and started clapping loudly. The curtains closed for a moment and then opened again. all the cast and Luca stood in front and bowed to the audience. We got a standing ovation. I gave Luca a hug and he kissed me on the cheek. I looked back into the crowd and saw two people enter at the back. Adam... What about Jason? I nearly dropped to my knees, but just managed to hold on to Luca.
"Jason!" I screamed. I ran off the stage and ran to Jason as fast as I could. He held his arms open for me and I jumped in.
"Jason." I whispered. I let my tears flow and didn't let go of Jason. "I love you. Never leave me alone again.
