Chapter 4: friendly contract

"Where are you going?" Gyuvin frowns at me.

"Gotta do something. I'll be right back" Gyuvin nods and starts talking with all the others. I leave the noisy lunchroom and walk in an awkward way towards the art room. I open the door and stand looking at the new girl. She stares right back and smiles.

"Hello." She widens her smile, but it is not a fake one. I give her something that feels like a warm smile back and look around the room.

"So what's the reason you asked me to come here?" The girl's eyes widen and she hastily bows down and gets back up almost immediately.

"Oh! I'm so sorry. I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Cho-Hee. You can just call me Cho. I'm in your chemistry class and music class. " I laugh and smile

"I'm Hanbin"

"Oh, I know. Everyone talks about you" I stagger at the sudden straightforward words. I shake my head slightly and bite my lip.

"Sorry but I still don't understand the reason you called me over? Is there something I can help with?" She shakes her head and walks towards me. She sticks her hand out and smiles brightly.

"Let's be friends." I look at her and raise my eyebrows. She laughs .

"Don't worry, I'm not here to use you for homework or anything" I sigh and smile down at her

"That's not what I'm worried about" now it's her turn to raise her eyebrows. To avoid further questioning, I take her hand and shake it. She gives another bright smile and passes me her phone.

"Can I have your number then?"

"What for?"

"Well what are friends for if you can't talk to them outside of school?" I take the phone. I type down the numbers hastily and give her back her phone. I take a chance to look at the art room while she inspects her phone. There is a painting that catches my eye. I walk towards it and feel Cho-Hee follow behind me. I inspect the painting without touching the masterpiece.

"You like it?"

"The colors chosen are peculiar," I look it up and down and smile, "it's unique." I take a look at Cho-Hee and see her smiling proudly at the painting.

"Is it yours?" She shakes her head rapidly.

"Oh no! I took it from my brother because I had so much homework to do." I nod and look back at the painting.

"He has an interesting choice of colors. I've barely seen anything that looks so pretty with these kinds of colors." I say. I wonder where all that motivation came from to make such a painting. Cho-Hee shrugs and frowns

"He can only make everything look perfect. Even he looks perfect," she looks at me then at the ground "it's kind of annoying" I laugh

"I wouldn't know. I never had any siblings."

"Lucky you. Sometimes it really takes a lot of energy to have one."

"Is he younger than you?"

"Yeah. By one year."

"Oh that must suck. Having a younger sibling, I mean". She smiles

"Tell me about it"

The rest of the classes were quite boring so I didn't bother to listen. So when the last bell rang, both me and Ricky sprinted from the building. We walked to a Cafe near it.

"Ah, seriously, Americanos always brighten my day." Says Ricky, holding his drink to my face. I push the drink towards him and frown.

"You think I have bad vision or something?"

"I once doubted your vision, yes." I give him a sarcastic smile and return to my computer while sipping my coffee.

"Oh god." I groan. Ricky looks up from his book and raises an eyebrow which he just recently learnt to do.

"Hm?"

"I didn't notice I had so much homework for next week." He laughs

"Sucks to be you". I sigh and cover my face with my hands in despair.

"Stressed about something?" I look up and see Cho-Hee smiling down at me. I smile and nod my head at Cho. She grabs a seat from the other table and brings it to ours. She sits down and sighs.

"Teachers really need to think that students have no life." I lean into my chair and give a small pout.

"No need to worry. I've heard that we don't need to do the music homework"

"Why?"

"Oh, the teacher is gonna be absent for two weeks." My eyes widen and look at Ricky who looks back at me with boredom.

"The music homework is the longest one yet!" I exclaim in happiness. Ricky sarcastically puts his hand over his mouth and changes his expression to mock.

"That's so fucking dope man!" He says, and I frown. He shakes his head and pats me on my elbow.

"How much homework do y'all have left for tomorrow? I can maybe help." He asks, and I shrug

"I have math homework but the teacher never checks it so I don't see the point in doing it." Cho-Hee says, taking a sip of Ricky's coffee, probably knowing that he is glaring at her.

"What about you?" Cho asks Ricky.

"Oh- uhh, barely anything left. I already did most of it in class." Cho-Hee nods her head in understandment.

"Same" she says

"So you already did everything?" I ask. She shrugs

"I finished everything. I had to study for my last class so I did it in those two hours. I just need to do the maths." I groan

"How come they give you guys two hours of study time when we only get one?" She laughs and pats me in the back.

"Don't curse it" I nod and smile sarcastically and look back at my computer. Math. The thought of math gave a sudden knot in my stomach. I feel like I'm missing something. I look at Ricky with a questioning face. He looks back at me, mirroring my questioning face. I suddenly bolt up from my chair and place a hand on my bag. Ricky's head follows my movement and opens his mouth with wonder.

"What the fuck dude?" He says. I look at Cho-Hee

"Sorry, I have to go" I give her a last smile and run out of the Cafe.

Seriously, how do I remember the smallest things but never remember the important things. Camille will low-key murder me. I run to the front of her building where she normally has her last class. As soon as I open the front door, there she is. Her hair covering her face and legs covering her body. As I enter, she looks up and her frown turns into a smile. She stands up and walks towards me.

"How silly of me. I thought you forgot." she says.

"No, I will never forget anything," I hesitate. She nods her head and walks to her bag. Camille takes out a blue and red notebook and hands the red one to me.

"So that you can practice. It will be a pity if you write in your actual math notebook." I nod and take it. She takes my sleeve and we walk out of the building.

"Where'd you wanna work?"

"I don't mind. You're the teacher so you should choose" I say. I look at her and wink. I take the pleasure in seeing her blush. I find it funny, ok?

"Ok... how about the Cafe close to the school?" I nod, and groan when I remember that Minjun and Cho-Hee are there.

"Everything alright?" Camille asks. I just nod as we walk.

---

I open the door for her as she looks for something in her bag. Camille smiles at me when she looks up, and slides her hand on my shoulder. I stiffen up, feeling uncomfortable, and desperately look for Ricky.

I spot both of them at the back, laughing at something on Cho's phone. I sigh, and glare at the back of Ricky's head, hoping that he will feel it with some sort of telepathy. If that works, he'll for sure save me.

Camille takes my hand, and laughs at my expression.

"Come, let's pick a table," she starts walking to a table far away from the one Cho and Ricky are at "we should also order something, don't you think?" she asks. I shake my head and flop down onto the chair.

This will be a long ass hour.
