Chance
She was standing in front of me, looking gorgeous as ever. Rachael Tarion was a desirable woman indeed. My gaze fell on her tummy and she took a step back, rubbing it. We held each otherâs gaze for a long time before Paris spoke.
âChance,â she wrapped her arms around my waist, and I saw hurt in Rachelâs eyes. I inhaled and moved away from her for some weird reason.
âStop,â I mind-linked her. My parents and hers arranged for us to marry and weâve been together for a long time but when I met Rachel, everything changed.
âChance-;
âI know, as I said, I wonât break your heart,â I assured her. Despite her beauty and power, Paris had a lot of insecurities and what she feared most is that I will back out of the wedding.
âRachel, I didnât know you were coming,â I sighed, extending my hand toward her. She looked at it and then me before she took it. She glanced at Paris, silently asking her to leave but the pretty woman was resolute on staying.
âExcuse us⦠please,â I asked, she gave me a tight-lipped smile before stomping out of the room.
âSuch a child,â my inner wolf grumbled.
âI didnât know you have a girlfriend,â Rachel murmured as we sat on the sofa.
âFiance,â I said, she immediately took her hand back and I felt cold, her hand was warm and left a pleasurable sensation on my skin.
âI have the results,â she informed me, giving me an envelope. My heart was pounding in my chest now and I fumbled with it.
âChance- I- Iâm sorry,â her eyes were teary and I didnât know why she was apologizing. Was the baby, not mine?
âOpen the f*****g results!â growled my wolf, and I nodded. I stared at the results, it was mine, the baby growing in her womb was my child, my first child.
âIâm sorry,â Rachel was vulnerable, and her body was shaking. I stood up and paced the room, running a hand through my hair several times
âYou were going to deny me this?â I couldnât recognize my voice.
âIâm sorry,â she whispered, Rachel looked like she was about to cry and all the anger and disgust I felt for her vanished, and I kept my poker face.
âIâll have us meet my lawyer, and we can discuss. Of course, Iâll cater for all the babyâs needs, and yours, and until itâs born we can arrange visitation-â She cut me off when she held my hand.
âChance, my father, and brother want to send me away because I lied about the legitimacy of the child and they are afraid of gossip and the kingâs punishment,â her voice was soft. I shook my head, I wouldnât let her leave, and as for the king, Iâll talk to Adira, she will help.
âIâm not letting you leave the city⦠at least not with my baby,â I declared.
âIâd be an outcast in society and the king,â
âIâll handle the king and Iâm sure heâll be more pleased that the baby isnât his,â I told her. â As for gossip, thereâs nothing we can do about it but people will forget eventually,â I assured her, she smiled slightly, still worried.
âI- I didnât want to leave either, I just canât do that to you,â
Her words warmed my heart. I grabbed my cell phone and texted Adira, I needed to see her as soon as possible.
âI should leave now,â she said softly.
âOkay,â
âCan I have your phone number, and email?â she asked, I had her information already.
âIâll text them to you,â I said. She turned her back and walked away before looking back at me.
âIâm sorry again,â
âThanks,â
She seemed glum. â Show her out!â my wolf said.
I escorted her out and when we reached the lounge, my grandfather was there with a few of his business associates. Rachel bowed respectfully to him and my grandfather smiled, kissing her hand kindly. He looked at her belly and nodded in approval, I didnât have to tell him anything as I knew he already knows, Alaric Lafayette might lead the second largest pack but he always had time for his family, he put us first.
We saw Paris as we reached outside and she glared at Rachel with much contempt, I noticed we were standing close, thatâs what made her jealous so I moved away, Rachel didnât miss that. Before I could comprehend anything, Paris walked up to us with a smile and pulled me down for a k**s.
Rachel.
That woman Paris set me on edge for some reason, I watched as she angrily left the room and we sat on the sofa, discussing. Chance was indifferent but I could tell he was genuine about supporting and being there for his baby. It hurt me that he didnât accept my apology but I should have expected that after what happened between us. I lied to him and insulted him.
On our way out, we saw the great Alaric Lafayette, he looked at me with warm eyes that made me feel safe. I wasnât expecting that because they are rumors that heâs ruthless. Chance escorted me to my car.
âAlright, I should go now,â I sighed, I was honestly hoping heâll ask me to stay but he didnât only nodded his head. I lingered there for a while before I saw her; his Fiance, Paris. Chance moved away from me and it hurt. Paris glared at me and before I knew it, she was kissing him deeply.
